Good evening, the spring is a spring called "comtois". When working the coils rub against each other. Eventually the zinc plating disappears and the steel rust. To limit this and still have a good feeling with your tool, put 2-3 drops of oil on it.

Thanks so much! I hate to say that I've used this wonderful tool for years without taking care of it myself. Great video, so glad I understand it now.

Gary, Your video is thorough and well-paced. Thank you for doing this. I am a bit nervous about the sharpening step, though, having never used a sharpening stone before. Do you have any tips, or another video perhaps, that focuses just on sharpening? Thanks again.

So helpful. Thanks! A gap has developed between the blade and the counter blade making the shears ineffective. How do I adjust so that the gap is eliminated and the blade comes back in contact with the counter blade? Thanks!!!

Hi Gary, thanks for a very clear video. I was hoping to see how to remove, clean and put back the swivel handle as it has become tight on my pruners, and will no longer swivel. Are you able to help?

What a wonderful video. May I ask about a couple of things you used that I am finding difficult to find. The "orange rind oil" does not appear in a Google search. I find orange oil but mostly it seems marketed to people who want to make their houses smell fresher. Is this the same thing? A search for lithium grease gets things such as Liquid Wrench and WD40. Nothing I saw about lithium grease had the cream-like consistency of your tin. Everything seems to be a spray. Am I being too picky or should I keep looking? I hope you can help me and for that, "thank you." Thank you also for the very clear explanation of the parts of the tool and the critical areas for cleaning and greasing.

Thanks for a great video. I have 3problems: the pivot nut on my Felco #7 has been over tightened and I cannot budge it. Also how do you dismantle the rotating handle as it is sticking and probably needs cleaning. Can you get the red coating on the handles replaced as it has worn off on one handle. Many thanks.
@jackriley79673 жыл бұрын
Spray some lube on the handle at the point where it turns. Then pull real hard on the handle and it should pop off. Clean it and put some grease on it before you put it back together.

@pedwards14 If you look closely, we use a marks-alot to indicate when we have matched the correct angle of the sharpening process. A little WD-40 will lubricate the cutting action of the stone. Check out the video "Sharpening a Stone" on our channel.

HI Gary, at the point where you secure the pivot nut, (I have not actually taken apart the pruner yet) if I have a small grip , can adjust and secure the pivot nut to secure the grip so as to NOT be as wide when in the open position? This question may show my ignorance of the pivot nut's positioning, but it tires my hand to have such a wide handle spread. And I use the Felco #6 for smaller hands. Thanks!

1) You can purchase the orange oil from my supplier "neutron industries" in AZ. When you order the oil, you can also ask for the special spray bottle. The oil will dissolve ordinary plastic bottles. 2) You can use a boxed-end metric wrench to loosen the serrated keeper. It should be about 8mm or so. A 10mm open-end metric wrench will also adjust the pivot nut. The camera was the Panasonic HVX-200.

Gary, I called Neutron industries and talked with a customer service rep who told me he's been with the company for 15 years. I had him review your video and asked him about the "special all metal spray bottle" He didn't have a clue what that was. Any suggestions? thanx

Don't recommend gasoline as a cleaner - it's dangerous! I use Isopropyl alcohol on the Felco 2, as a cleaner and disinfectant, but always in an open area with ventilation. But don't take my word for it, please, check into it.

But it smells good. Sorry, old skool motor head :) The orange rind solvent works great for indoor use.
