So grateful you showed how to clean our pruners in detail. Not only satisfying to watch, but we can have your video for a great guide so I won't have to bug my husband to put them back together for me. Have been embarrassed how rusty my pruners are. Surprised to see yours get that way too. Thanks for taking the time to video taking them apart and details about the cleaners.

Folks should know also that all the bits can be purchased if you find they are worn out or damaged including the red handle covers and the black bump pads between the handles. A spare spring is a good start to a persons collection.

Any oil or lubricant can be used to clean and maintain larger garden tools. However, it's safer to use food-safe oils when the tools are used in your garden, so as not to contaminate the soil. After cleaning any debris and allowing to dry, sand/sharpen if needed, wipe away metal dust, then rub on a small amount of lubricant. Lots of tutorials for garden tool/shovel maintenance on YT, if seeing a step-by-step is helpful.

Question, is it normal to always feel the need to want to sharpen them? I feel mine getting dull pretty easily and didn't expect that. I don't generally use it on anything too thick or hard but still feel the need to sharpen it often because it stops cutting as cleanly.

Funny story. I am an AVID garden answer follower. Have been for many years. After watching this video I immediately got on Amazon and ordered all the things needed to clean all my pruners. I set up on our garage table and went to work. My husband came out and saw the parts to 3 pruners laying there. He asked…why are you doing that? I answered him with “because Laura said to”! (Duh 🙄) lol. I want so much for just part of my garden to be as beautiful as Laura’s that I’ll follow all her tips. She has taught me an immeasurable amount of gardening knowledge thru the years. Thank you, Laura! ❤

I have this same Felco pruner and to be honest I just use WD-40 as I have done on my other garden pruners, loppers, etc. for years and it works great. I love Felco products but their cleaners, etc. are pricey. I would get their grease lubricant though for sure! FYI: The WD-40 brand has over a dozen types of lubricants, cleaners, dry-lubricants so there is a lot to choose from at half the price.

This is one of my favorite things to do the last week of January. I have probably 20 different types of pruners and I clean and sharpen all of them and "restock" my drawer for the season. When they get gunky I have a box that I set them in and grab another clean pair. It takes me about 2 months to go through all my clean tools then I clean and sharpen around June again. Most of them are over 10 years old now and they still look like new. Great vlog!

I saw a video a little while back from another gardener cleaning her pruners, one of them was a felco and I just about had a heart attack when she dumped that pruner in soapy water, scrubbed it and then called it good.... she didn't take it apart or anything and she said it wasn't necessary... I was like that is gonna rust. I used your last video as a reference last time I cleaned mine and it worked well, took it apart and it came out nice, not long after that I had to replace my blade due to accidently catching wire while clipping back a vine on our fence lol. I'm so glad parts are replaceable.

I tried to sharpen them with a whetstone and probably did a decent job. I’m glad to know that Felco’s has a sharpener that will work faster and better and not be so awkward! Thank you! I just got my first pair of Felcos (15s for my tiny hands) and was really intimidated by the number of pieces. You have made the process seem much more manageable (dare I say, maybe even fun!) I was wondering if there are alternative products we could use if we splurged on the pruners and don’t want to buy the Felco brand cleaning accessories. They’re not that expensive, but I always prefer to use things I have already. I’m thinking maybe WD-40 for the grease, sandpaper for the sharpening…no idea about the cleaner! Feel free to tell me I need to buy the Felco products to protect my investment - that might be the case!

This is such a great refresher course and reminder to start prepping pruning tools, especially when the weather is yucky. I just started prepping my garden tools and realized I did it wrong. Yikes!
