Thanks for reacting to Felip's Bulan. The beats on this is intentionally louder than the vocals or at least at the same level because of the mythology that inspired this Music Video. In that mythology, Bulan (the Moon God that became a mortal boy) together with the villagers made use of loud noises to drive away a moon-eating Sea Serpent Deity named Bakunawa. It was trying to eat Haliya (the Moon Goddess) which Bulan has no memories of but is his own twin sister.

I can understand that you hear it as some kind of mumbling. I am a Filipina and I did not understand it at first. But after several times listening to it, I could actually hear his words and they are actually clear. It is just that his voice is really low-toned. I believe that the instrumental was intentionally made to be louder than his voice as reference to the mythology of the eclipse where this MV and song was inspired from. For the sea serpent not to eat the moon, the villagers has to make loud noises for the sea serpent to leave the moon alone and go back to the deep waters where it came from.

Bulan is an old folklore of some regions in the Philippines. To have a better understanding of the folklore, you may want to watch Cashual Chuck’s documentary on Felip’s Bulan. You will have a better understanding of the MV after watching. Felip is part of a Ppop group called SB19. They are our Ppop Kings. You should check them out, they cover different genres of music as a group.

Yup, this is not the type of song that some people would appreciate. The intent of the song and the MV is primarily for the Philippine youth etc., for them not to forget ancient Philippine mythologies from a period prior to colonization. The song is filled with metaphors according and would not be easily understood by everyone that sees/hears it unless they know the back story that inspired the song.
