This paired with the marching drums and the minute gun and muffled ring from Big Ben during the Queen's final journey out of London was fantastic and moving to listen to. (as has been pointed out the state funeral version was mendelshons funeral march op 62.3)

the Mendelssohn is quite similar to Grieg's Funeral March in Memory of Rikard Nordraak which was played during the Queen's state funeral. There was no life music during the final journey our of London as the coffin was transported in the state hearse.
@Mehuge2 жыл бұрын
@@twitter2595 the journey up to the Wellington Arch is still part of the "final journey out of London", and Mendelssohn was played during that part of the procession. Seems it was a different but similar Mendelssohn piece though.

We stood along the beach and wept for our friend, to the sky's of God his ashes we commend, that his soul will be where it belonged and the waves will greet his once noble stand, and carry out to sea away from this land, and his memory will never fade his heart was filled with good, in whispers his voice had said, take me to this beach when my time has come and weep not my loyal friends.

Those of you coming here from the Queen’s funeral procession, you’ve got the wrong Mendelssohn march. You’re looking for Op. 62 No. 3 (from Songs without Words), which was originally composed for unaccompanied piano. It is the more common of the two, though IMO not as powerful as the one in this video. This march, Op. 103, was specifically written for a military band.

why they burned his body??
@AnzorBatono2 жыл бұрын
His ship was caught in a storm and he drowned. The body was washed ashore a few days later. It happened in the Ligurian Sea on July 8, 1822 off the coast of La Spezia. At the beginning of the 19th century, Rome could only be reached from there by horse, which is 430 km. in the hot sun road. Therefore, they decided to burn the corpse and the ashes were delivered to Rome for burial.
