Felix's goose, which lays golden eggs, is goose-napped by Captain Kidd. Felix rescues him from Kidd's pirate ship. (Cartoon is in the public domain, and is available from the Internet Archive.)

By Felix, this was the FIRST episode of Felix the cat that I ever saw. I'm already 23, but since then, Felix remained one of my favorite cartoon characters. Sue me, I seriously like him better than Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. That and he's adorable.

when i was a kid, i loved this video and thought that it was really cool of Felix to give away all that money. As an adult i still love it but i can't help think "NO FELIX! STOP! YOU'RE DESTROYING THE ECONOMY! EVERYONE IS GONNA BE POOR AT THIS RATE!", man i hate getting old.
@Noveltooner16 жыл бұрын
And that was a real problem. Felix was a really unique character; a terrible mis-read on Gillett's part. During the Great Depression, audiences looking for some kind of escapist relief would have enjoyed the storylines of The Cat's earlier adventures. Doing color and full sound remakes and updates of such surreal shorts as "Woos Whoopie" and "False Vase" together with surreal takes on contemporary situations are what was needed. Felix was never meant to be a Mickey Mouse carbon copy.

The moral is good kind hearted people will always prevail, whilst evil is thoroughly punished. The first 3 minutes had Felix using the golden goose to donate to the poor rather than keep it for himself, while Capitain Kidd wanted all the gold for himself.
@Blueglitter739 жыл бұрын
1936 huh? And the beginning of the episode is when Felix gives gold coins to the poor. This relates to the Great Depression during that time period. But lending gold coins is just like the soup kitchen. How nice of Felix.

5:16 to 5:32 - Felix, you are a total badass. And at 6:22, I thought you were going to rush to save the bad guy from a nasty fall despite what he had done, and be a goody two shoes like any more recent cartoon hero, but.... nope! You were only rushing to LENGTHEN his fall! I imagine after that GASP! that Felix's thoughts were on the line of "Oh no! He's a bad guy, but he's about to fall 30 feet!..... there! Now it's 45 feet instead." A hardcore badass who doesn't have mercy on his enemies. Holy crap. You could probably hold your own against Popeye like that! Who knew?

When I was a very little kid in the 90s I first saw this film of Felix from the 30s. This Film got me into Felix the cat! I loved -and still do- how Felix could turn himself into a canon ball and launch himself to the pirate ship all to save his friend! And fight a giant pirate dog with a sword fight. It just made so much scary as a kid. It was unlike a Petter Pan movie, Felix could not fly away from the sword. But Felix was still willing to fight! :D Ever since then I looked for more Felix films or anything I could find of Felix. As a kid I did not Like the 60s Felix I just couldn't like it. (now I don't hate the 60s Felix now I watched them all I could find there are still missing ones) I as a kid watched the 90s version of "twisted tales of Felix the cat" (I couldn't watch all of them as a Kid since as a kid I only had some episodes on VHS) it was ok I like the episode's. but it didn't spark the love I felt of the 30s Felix film I loved as a child. ( I also found Baby Felix as a kid and I was like Nope Not gonna even watch THAT No WAY! Im scared of Baby talking show's. ^^; ) Till one day when I was a Teenager I got a DVD of Felix. --(I was very new to the technology of DVD's and did not know there was a -more- button on the DVD. my sister yelled at how could I not know! )--- I click it and Found Felix the cat in Black and White silent film's. I fell in Love! (Later I found out Felix was older then Mickey mouse! Felix was made in year 1919 while Mickey was made in year 1928! Witch was great news for me! Why? well I had a fear of Mickey when I was a child Ive gotten over that fear but it dose'nt mean I have to Love that mouse!) Till now I just Love Silent Film Felix and this film! :D and once again I got to see Felix turn himself into a canon ball and launch himself into the air! And thats the story how I fell in Love with Felix! :3

Yes, you're right. Cartoons these days can be done by a small crew in a couple of days. When this was made it took hundreds of people painstakingly drawing one cell, frame by frame. Then they had hundreds of painters, background artists, and they probably only made 7cents an hour.

My favorite memories of this episode are of Captain Kidd, since I always used to wonder if the character was a version of a real Captain Kidd. Now, finally, I Google'd it, and among the results was a Wikipedia link. I read everything mentioned about him and his history as a pirate, up to his death, and from having an idea from Felix the Cat however similar or different and compared what I read about him at Wikipedia, and it is very interesting, and a long real course of his life as a pirate, but shortened at Wikipedia. It wasn't just about him stealing gold or in 1 part of the globe, or the same ship always or the same crew. And for anybody who still likes or misses this episode of Felix the Cat, I would suggest they read about Captain Kidd. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Kidd

Interesting how Winston Sharples did the music here, and then later on he'd go to "score" the 1959-1961 "Felix the Cat" animated series (I say "score" in quotation marks because he only wrote some original music cues and recycled many of his previous Famous Studios cartoon scores in that series.)

Since the money is made from gold and are representing their own value. I dont think it will create much inflation until the demand for golds starts falling, and we must remember that there are also gold mines pooling quantities of gold out mainwhile. Yet I can emagine that the local demand has droped rapidly in this particulary erea.
@TVkingOmega12 жыл бұрын
This is a great cartoon and everything but Felix has no business' sense, if he keeps making gold for everyone eventually it will become worthless and then everyone will go right back to being poor just with yellow rocks. The smart thing however evil it may sound would be to hoard as much gold as you can out of the goose before it dies and give it out only a little each month.
