Love the detailed review and comparison between the kettles, great content that focuses on actual performance! I have the Timemore and quite happy with it, but it is the larger version at 750ml and 1500w. Since the Stagg is 1200w, the larger timemore would potentially beat that to heating time. It is more expensive though at close to 8k. My one gripe is the Max/Min line is quite faint and it’s right behind the handle, so it’s awkward to pour water while the handle is facing you be away. Watching your vid, it looks like all kettles place their max/min line there...
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, the Stagg EKG in 220v (the version used in the test) is marked as 1000w only. It is that's one of the things that surprised me with the speed test. They all have the same wattage, so what we're essentially testing is the design of the heating element and how efficiently energy is transferred to the water. And how heat is retained by the kettle during the boil, I suppose. Glad you enjoyed! Please do subscribe and tell a friend 🙏🙏

Great comparison. I like the look of the Stagg EKG, but the full speed pour kills it for me, 50s to pour 900ml is way too slow, I'd have to keep a standard kettle on the bench with it. The Brewista can go just as slow but also pours at a decent speed which I could live with day to day, why can't it just have a better base/interface.
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting that you want more speed. I must admit that I've over tilted the EKG on several occasions and had water come out the top. If you want speed, get that Hario Buono! I think they took the gooseneck from a storm drain 🤣🤣🤣

Me the same, got the EKG and loved it in all details but not of the reason I returned it because of the super slow water flow 🙄 trying to go for just a little more speed, water is coming out of the top 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

I own a one-litre version of Brewista. There are a couple of disadvantages that I can mention: you can't easily have a slow flow when the kettle is complete and it's difficult to control it with one hand. But once you learn how to hold it and how much water to put in to have the best flow, it becomes brilliant. Also, it pisses me off that I have to press that heat button every time I take it off the base. The detachable power cable is actually a plus. You can buy a hooked C13 cable in white colour that's gonna match your base.

Very detailed review on different aspects of their functionality and performance. Thank you for your efforts. Hope your shoulders are fine after all that pouring. I really like the Timemore. I believe that the 800L one would’ve impressed much more. This 600L you tested was the biggest cause for lower metrics compared to others. I hear what you’re saying about the comfort of the Brewista but it’s so fat and wide. It doesn’t inspire me that much. Maybe I’d like it better in black? I don’t know really. For some reason the EKG doesn’t inspire me much either. I prefer the Paris-Rhône kettle, which is almost identical but has improvements over the EKG. Cheaper too and nice company behind it.

I know what I bought. It’s ugly and not classy. I don’t know if they still make the ones with the fake wood grain on the bottom and stuff. Man, did that bug me too! :). Ugly. Hi @HoneycombManila! If you were to chose between Brewista and Hario Buono (both last versions), which one would you choose? Also, is the shape of the gooseneck spout very important? Is it technically better to have it placed over the dripper, very close to the coffee, which you can do with Brewista or Hario, but not with Stagg ? Is it more than an appealing feeling when pouring this way ? I can think of unwanted agitation, but I am curious what you think. Thanks!

The flow control test is not a correct comparison. Cold water has a higher surface tension than hot water, so getting a long water stream with freshly boiled water is much harder than with cold water. My Hario Buono has almost 40cm with cold water and maybe 10-12cm with hot water. I‘d love to see a comparison with hot water
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila Жыл бұрын
Great feedback. Our experience is that the hot to cold water variance in surface tension across kettles is linear and the results are identical. In other words, yes the level of control is different, but they are consistently different across temperatures and kettles
@TG-iy9wx
@TG-iy9wx Жыл бұрын
@@HoneycombManila maybe you can make a video with Brewista, Hario and Fellow. My experience is, that the water stream breaks approx. 60% earlier than the shown results in this video. Will it make worse coffee? No, but it’s a less good experience, as I would expect with the shown examples with cold water. I tried this at home with Hario, Brewista, Tchibo, KitchenAid and TimeMore. Hario is still the best, but breaks much earlier and there’s not a huge difference from the other kettles

Nice video but at 7:10 "We have 880/881ml pretty close as advertised". Actually you have 900ml that weights 880g. The conversion 1:1 between ml and g almost never works. ml is for volumetric measurements the volume of water changes with temperature so when you have PURE water and it's exactly at 4C or 39.2F, 900ml of water weight just 900g, otherwise the 1:1 conversion doesn't work.
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true. For coffee, it's usually a question of ratio though, so we really never use volumetric measurements due to that issue of them being terribly unreliable. Basically, we're saying ml, but what we mean is grams. It's stupid, but it's how it is I suppose. So in essence, we don't really care about the volumetric capacity of the kettle, we care about the weight, since all future brewing measurements will be done in weight anyway.
@mamshie888
@mamshie888 3 жыл бұрын
for the price i think the timemore ain’t bad. similar to what u said for stagg, don’t think you’ll reach 100ml esp for home use. and the temp is similar to the other two despite the plastic built.
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila 3 жыл бұрын
it's actually not any more plastic than the other 2, especially the Stagg, which has a totally plastic base. It's the implementation of the plastic that makes it look and feel so cheap. The concern with volume has to do with the spout placement and engineering. You run out of control too easily when the volume is low.
