The Achilles tendon is the thickest and strongest tendon in the body and used to push off when walking, running, and jumping. A tendon rupture can occur as a common sports injury or as a complication from a medication (fluoroquinolone antibiotics - for my med students!). Some patients benefit from surgery to decrease the likelihood of rerupturing the tendon and to improve push-off strength and muscle function. Physical therapy is important following both surgical and nonsurgical treatment to improve range of motion and strength.

For those who have been with us from our first case: thank you, and know I appreciate each one of you following alongside. You have watched my son’s silly antics, personality, and fine motor skills develop over the years, and I can’t help but feel so proud of his Krakow suturing (sewing) for this repair. We truly cannot underestimate how much little kids can do and understand.

Stayed tuned for clips from the second round with my 4yo daughter…

A great big thank you to @foundation.fixer for her help with this case!
