Seriously me and my friends would laugh for hours after these critiques over dinner & drinks at the neighborhood bars & restaurants in North Beach. Honestly, just thinking back about these ‘precious’ turds still makes me laugh. As they’ve literally destroyed both Hollywood & AAA Gaming. Only to then remember that these same talentless hacks have been placed into the very companies that are losing their asses financially to laugh even more. Have you never heard of Athena? She was prophesized to usurp Zeus because of how much better and smarter she was going to be than him. If every category of female sports - not just boxing but every discipline, regardless if it’s directly affecting your particular sport at this particular time - just withdrew in solidarity with all their female counterparts, this nonsense would end in a very short amount of time. In the very least, every female boxer at this event should immediately withdraw until something is done. And withdraw in the ring in full public view, not behind closed doors. Walk to the ring, touch gloves and then walk back to the corner and wait out the rounds. If they really mean it, every woman competing in every event should withdraw. Because it’s only a matter of time before it affects their particular sport.

I stopped watching the Olympics when the summer & winter games split up into every other year. Plus when Olympics allowed professionals to compete. It lost a lot of what the Olympic games was suppose to be about. No more a team of college kids defeating a professional Soviet team in Olympic hockey. Where *"DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES"* truly happened. (Note: I saw that game live in West Germany on AFN (Armed Forces Network) starting around 2AM. Also saw the Gold medal game against Finland live. Started about 4AM.) When (American TV market) ABC Network had the broadcasting rights. ABC concentrated on the sporting events. When NBC Network took over. The main over the air started doing profiles of the athletes. While the events or games are on other NBC cable networks. At that point. Who cares.

I was done with the Olympics years ago because of the horrible way they treat their host countries; throwing people out of their homes to build Olympic parks that are abandoned (and unlivable) after the games are over, forcing host countries to pay insane amounts of money which they never recoup from the games themselves, etc... But now everyone should be turn away from the Olympics and young athletes should focus on other competitions. I would never consent to my children ever competing in the Olympics.

I worked on the Olympic Committee for the '84 LA Games. The Opening & Closing Cerimonies are supposed to be for the Athelets! NOT for the Committee! Not one athlete saw Lady Gaga's performance. None saw the Marie Anttonet - Speed Metal bit. Just as none of them saw any of the dancers doing "Art" along the River Sene or infront of the Effil Tower. Or any of the prerecorded, romps through librarys & museums - with some breaking off to enjoy some 3-way sex. NBC paid over a $Billion Dollars for the US TV rights. Although, they claim there was little or no rehearsal possible, they still knew Exactly what was planned. They had cameras placed to pick it all up. Knowing who their "Core" audience is, NBC could have cut to different angles - or shown different things altogether. But they didn't! They knew what they were going to show. Understood what the reaction would be. And did it anyway!!! I'm not watching. I'm not the only one. They chose to ignore the fact that it's supposed to be about the Athletes!

Many women in these sports are lesbians (big surprise) and many of them get to this point because of things like Title IX. Title IX forced colleges to drop men's sports and add women's sports to make them equal. So colleges often drop unpopular men's sports like gymnastics (where many men are gay - another big surprise) and replace them with women's sports composed of many lesbians. So lesbians have been gaining in sports at gay mens' expense for a long time. Maybe they understand what's been happening and now feel they can't stand in the way of gay men entering women's sports.

didnt realize the greek pantheon was famously portrayed in the painting the last supper. the very specifically composed image that is immediately recognizable when it appears in other media. good example being the retirement dinner vignette in the opening montage of the movie watchmen. you can pose those characters in that manner but its always going to be clear whats being evoked.

Personally I don't think it's offensive, just really confusing. Instead of having a bunch of French performers and IP's, similar to prior Olympic opening ceremonies, they decided to reference an Italian's depiction of Greece alongside American singers. It makes the French look even less original than South Korea, which I didn't think was even possible.

What you see in the Beijing opening has much more to do with Chinese history theatrical history & culture rather than politics. Chinese (and most other East Asian) theater, is "presentational" rather than "representational" (as in theatrical traditions that developed in the west). Hence, Chinese theater, TV shows, and movies, tend to focus more on spectacle, rather than the individual's emotions, thought processes, etc. Although this is changing somewhat in more modern Chinese dramas, 10-20 years ago, you'll be hard pressed to find over the shoulder shots in Chinese TV shows (often used in western cinematography to show a character's reaction to another), instead you would of seen a lot of long shots and camera panning within a scene. The Beijing Olympics drums at that time is no different, large outdoor spectacle is a specialty in China. There's a show in Guilin (Sanjie Liu Show), where not only do they have hundreds of performers on the lake / shores, they even light up the mountains in the far distance as background. It is also important to note that very few countries have the number of people to dedicate to such large scale displays (for relatively little pay) as China does. Having been to one of the top Beijing performance schools on theater symposium trip from the U.S. I can say that the talent and dedication is top notch, but it certainly isn't a glamours life to be one of those students / performers (like many who aspire to fame and fortune with the idea of being a Western performer). As for the Chinese perspective on such a performance, we love it, are proud of the scale and coordination of it, and have zero thoughts on it's implication regarding politics, social implications etc. Honestly, although I understand and often agree with the criticism from the west, what the people in the west fail to understand is that when you have a population that large, people are just trying to get by and unfortunately have very little time to care about much of the values in the west.
