In cases of DSD or intersex, there are chromosomal abnormalities and need to be identified as male or female, depending on the potential for a certain male or female reproduction system (ova or testes). So it’s not as cut and dry as chromosomes, unfortunately. There are people with XXY chromosomes, for example, who are males with klienfelters syndrome.

From my POV. It was probably overlooked by Algeria. The country where the person was born and grew up. Rubber stamped her as a female at birth and no one questioned otherwise. Until the last couple of years because being a competitive athlete , testing undercovered something (perhaps a form of DSD like some are saying) Problem is that it's such a grey area in most sports. Hopefully it triggers some updating to the rules and regulations so there is some standardize benchmark to follow. Where it gets muddy though is where do you draw the line? Should all athletes take a gender test? Or just the ones that standout due to abnormal performances? Did The William sisters ever take a test ? I am not implying they're intersex but they do seem to have a genetic advantage over others in the sport.

It would seem that Imane Khelif recently discovered he is a male with what is basically a developmental disorder of his physiology (its hard to say if it is even an "intersex condition," since he is clearly male with male chromosomes and testosterone - I believe "intersex" usually refers to chromosomal disorders of X and Y chromosomes but I'm not sure), and had a female birth certificate and passport, however, knowing he is man (he found out before this match), he should not have competed against Carini. I would have had deep sympathy for him had he . . . manned up and forfeited the match and Olympics. Instead, Carini was forced to apologize, which is extremely unfair, as she got beaten up (punched in the face) and this is recorded on TV for all to see :(

I'm really glad you clarified she isn't trans, that lie has been spread way too much. But on the subject, I disagree. I don't want men competing against women, I support people's rights to have cosmetic surgery if they want but it doesn't actually change your gender, you are what you are. And in this case, IK is a biological woman, she has the female body parts and has the right to compete in the female category in her weight class. Now I don't watch the Olympics or boxing and I don't know all the rules but I do believe they are split up by weight and gender and as they should be, a 150kg woman would stomp a 50kg woman. But this is different, she has the parts, is the weight and is a woman, she should be allowed to compete. If were going to hyper fixate on "oh no injuries are bad" we should outright ban the dangerous sports, injuries happen between female athletes as well, particularly in fighting sports, gods forbid something like american football. I'm very much of the opinion "don't overthink it and don't focus too much on every little detail" that's how you lose the big picture. Its the same way people water down words and make them meaningless. Remember when trigger warnings actually held some weight? When PTSD was called shellshock? We do this a lot but at some point we have to stop or let some things go. For me this is one of those times. I actually agree with this. Intersex is something that is still very under the radar in many places, even in sports. As someone who is POSSIBLY intersex themselves, born and looked the way I was supposed to as I grew up, etc. But physical, hormonally and other things were all out of whack. I have a lot of physical problems and such that keep getting worse that I need to see a doctor, It can seriously change how someone performs if they have some of these conditions.

To be clear enough, the current IOC regulations, same as Tokyo 2020, are specifically designated to let even transgender athletes compete in female categories. It's not a loophole, it's on purpose.

it been confirmed she's not "trans", but who knows I don't know she could be intersex woman. Because there is a 1% group of intersex people out there. Intersex individuals are allowed to compete in the Olympics. After all intersex means if you look it up, people who are born with or develop biological sex characteristics that are not typically male or female from chromosomes like XXY or XYY to secondary sex traits. It's not the same as being trans. Also it's a HIPAA violation to disclose someone's medical records.

Lin Yu ting was born as a female. She also got a XX test before the competition. Nobody knows what exactly IBA was testing and they didn't release the method in public. Also many evidence have shown Lin Yu ting is a real woman and not even a intersex or trans gender person, you cannot define a male or female just on their appearance, but you rather trust a IBA blackbox XY test? As a Taiwanese, I really need to point out that there's no chance that we would allowed someone who is biological male to fight in our junior tournaments. The truth is: 1. Lin was born as a female. Every new born child has to do the birth registration in Taiwan. We use a family register system, and everyone would have a ID number. The ID number can identify an individual was born as male or female. When we send our application for our ID cards we must provide our household certificates, which have our gender on them. When we apply for our passports. We must provide our ID cards. There's no such thing as self ID in Taiwan now. And we never allow a child to do anything to transform their biological sex until they are an adult. If someone really want to change their gender they have to do the sex reassignment surgery first. 2. In mid 20th century there were some cases that some impostors who joined some games to fight for others. That's why we do the identification check in a very serious way. All of the games would ask the participants to provide their ID cards (or a household certificate if they don't have one). There's nearly no chance that an obvious biological male can get into the female games in Taiwan. IBA neither said what kind of tests they conducted nor provided the test result. IBA has a very poor reputation of doing their job so they were excluded by IOC. Judging by the statement made from IBA, I don't think everyone should trust them until they clarify what they really did.

They don't even clarify what kind of tests they conducted at the time. I just found that very suspicious. Another weird thing is that Lin's coach did file an objection then IBA turn them down, while IBA said Lin never file an objection so they took it as Lin accept the result. Someone must be lying.
