He had the taser (small black taser) in his hands for much of the last couple mins, and had the dog by its collar choking it and tasering him, then she shot him in the leg. He still had the dog by the collar for approx 10 seconds after she shot him, then he let go.

The handler is definitely appalling and should not be in charge of a a police K9 however a simple call back should be immediate with a well trained police K9. For a domestic dog you wouldn't call back as she did and expect a dog to listen but this isn't any old K9... they should be trained for high pressure call backs, I would think. Welcome to defund the police. This is what happens when you slice the police budget. Zero funding for training for the humans and the K9. Defunding the police only made the police car more dangerous now that proper training has been disposed of. Thanks to all the fools who supported defund the police. Also, the biggest impact of defund the police was a huge increase in all crimes in the poorer areas which are proportionally minorities. It kind of feels like every US officer is unqualified these days with how many stories of them being bumbling paranoid trigger happy buffoons I see. I can't go one day without seeing an article about them shooting up their own car (with a suspect inside it) because an acorn fell on it, entire squads sitting outside of a shooting because they're too scared to take the gunman on, officers nearly blowing their own hands off because they don't know the first thing about gun safety, and other sorts of news that makes you wonder if there's any training in the police academy beyond point and shoot. I presume this is at least somewhat caused by stories of police incompetence and corruption being more compelling than "police officer does his job perfectly with no errors" but even then they still have a concerning amount of material to work with. Might also have to do with police unions preventing incompetent or morally dubious officers from being properly dealt with but I wouldn't know enough about how things actually work behind the scenes to be certain. Whatever is causing it the problem is certainly real and I think some measures need to be taken to better filter out people who are clearly not mentally, physically, or emotionally strong enough to actually perform this job.

I'm a retired police officer of over 21 years and 16.5 of that as a K9 handler. If I focus only on the K9 handler and her partner, I'd have to say that this might be the worst example of K9 work and the best example of incompetence that I have ever witnessed on the street. Both of them have to be pulled off the street immediately. Whoever trained these two needs to be sued immediately. Another trainer has to be chosen if you're going to consider putting them back out there again. Both of them are an absolute disaster. And that is just from a K9 perspective. The department, the officers/deputies that were involved in this are completely incompetent as well and from an officer safety standpoint, neither of them should be on the street at all. I saw several points in the video with serious crossfire issues and that male officer/deputy was completely clueless. I don't even know where to begin with these two.

If you want to be a specialist officer i.e.dog handler, firearms, riot control etc you need 2/3 years flawless service as a basic officer first and then have to first pass the application process and if that's granted then its months of specialised training which you need to pass or you'll stay a basic officer. I believe the average training in the States is around 18-20 weeks, after which they're then given a gun and granted qualified immunity. The result of those poor standards is evident from the first second of this video to the last. All officers here were rubbish but this woman is a joke. Stupid, foul mouthed, hyper aggressive and beyond unprofessional. The dog is the best officer there and even he wouldn't pass the the training standards required to serve in Britain. I saw on the news earlier this week half a dozen unarmed police officers in London detain a man in minutes that had attacked several people with a samurai sword killing a 14 y/o schoolboy and seriously wounding many more including two unarmed police officers that risked their lives to try and stop him with nothing but a taser and pepper spray. American citizens deserve much better than these clowns

Thats kind of a very common thing with the way they train dogs. They train with people wearing big baggy suits the dogs can bite in to. So the dogs are not trained or used at all to going for body bites. They tend to go for clothes and such...Which usually helps a lot to decentralize the subject and make them freak out, but this guy was ready for it.

She calls the dog back, then threatens to let him go, then tells the dog no, then tells the dog to heal, while leading the dog in the direction of the suspect. Sees the suspect but tells the dog No while she fumbles around on foot trying to get to the suspect. When suspect doesn’t comply she holds the dog back. Then she holds on to his collar while telling the dog to go get him. When she lets the dog go she gives him an incorrect command!). This line cracked me up. “Tracy I don’t want to kill you. After contact by officers, Guess drove away from the scene. On GA Hwy 122, in the Cogdell community, Guess rammed a Clinch County deputy’s vehicle. When the vehicles came to a stop, Thornton ran from the scene. Officers attempted to take Guess into custody. Guess was tased several times; however, it was ineffective. At one point, Guess obtained one of the officer’s tasers and tased another officer. Guess was shot by the Homerville PD officer that was tased. Guess was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

That has got to be the worst stop I've ever seen. The female officer comes off WAY too aggressive and quick to escalate. This usually comes from her insecurity of handling male subjects. The problem with this is that her aggressive behavior can actually be the cause of subjects running on her because they're afraid of what she might do. Also, why have departments stopped using pain compliance techniques? Arm bar, elbow bend, pain points, etc? Grab his hand, thumb to thumb and twist into complaince on to the ground, the more he fights, the more it hurts him. Next, if you're going to be in Law Enforcement, it is absolutely quintessential for you to be in good shape. Your life and the public's lives quite literally depend on this. If you can't make it a quarter of a mile through the woods without having to stop and rest against a tree a few times, you're in the wrong. What was up with the dog? Having worked MWD's I can say that this dog lacks all sorts of continued training. I doubt she trains the dog much. That's a huge danger to herself and the public. I can go on but it's all repeats of the same initial points. Lastly, I've said this a million times, females DO NOT belong in combat career fields. They are not wired for life and death situations and often over or under react causing their male counterparts to pick up the slack. Not to mention, men are wired to protect females so male officers often lose focus when the female officer gets into trouble that a male officer wouldn't have a problem with. They also cause moral and discipline problems through the department if they're "available" to their fellow officers.
