My cameras have captured the moment Jenny (resident female at Fotherdale) was mated by a ringed male. Fingers crossed I can get his ring number and find out who he is!

@@jennyc1164 Oh cool I thought with a previous vid that REF thought it was based on the tail feathers and I remembered another??kestrel that had a second family and I think REF had to provide food to keep the family alive Am senile at times😂 But pretty sure

Yes that was apollo.. but ref wasn’t sure about why apollo was visiting where jenny is.. he may have just been scouting out new nest possibilities sites for Athena and him.. looks like apollo may be faithful after all :)

I saw an American Kestrel in Newport, Oregon yesterday! I've never gotten that close to one before where I could easily see its markings! Although bridges scare me, that's always when I see birds up close and personal! Eagles, owls, osprey, egrets, herons, hawks...

🤷‍♀I am pretty sure that WAS confirmed as Apollo on that occasion by REF ... this is a different bird as it has a ring where Apollo doesn't, so hopefully an unattached male that will stay & help with raising any chicks that he might be responsible for 😀

Great to see and hopefully chicks to follow. Loved the tender moment of luna and her new chicks. Thank you for sharing with us that don't have cameras t(hough we are fortunate to have a number of blue tits Robins and wrens that usually nest in our garden). So, are all male kestrels one pump chumps? Does kestrel mating usually last only a few seconds? Or do they just do it repeatedly until it works? Many 3 seconds rounds until it works? Or that few seconds one time is enough?
