Just a minor correction, progesterone doesn't cause endometrial growth (that's the role of estrogen during the follicular/proliferative phase). Rather, it causes increase secretory activity of endometrial glands, resulting in increased mucus secretions preventing further sperm from penetration (explaining why the time for fertilization is 12-24 hours post ovulation - before progesterone increases and thus secretory activity increases). Progesterone is also responsible for maintaining the endometrium that proliferated during the follicular phase due to estrogen. Good video.

oh thank goodness I thought I was wrong cuz I knew estrogen was what caused endometrial growth and not progesterone I understood that progesterone caused the mucus and also caused the mammary glands to retain water

the total thickness of the endometrium is about 7mm, estrogen is responsible for the growth of the first 5mm and progesterone the last 2mm so technically progesterone cause endometrial growth too
@farahballoum3491
@farahballoum3491 5 жыл бұрын
Oestrogen is responsible for the growth of the endometrial from 3mm to 5mm only during the follicular phase. And during the luteal phase also known as the pre menstrual phase since we're talking about the uterus, the combined action of progestrone and oestrogen assures the growth of the endometrial from from 5mm to 7mm.

Just to point out a minor error, primordial follicles actually are activated a year prior to their possible ovulation. It is a cohort of antral/vesicular follicles that are stimulated by FSH in each ovarian cycle. Stimulated by FSH, this cohort of antral follicles will continue to grow. As FSH drops, only one of these growing antral follicles will get selected and become the dominant follicle that continues to grow and eventually ovulates. Besides that, thank you for the wonderful explanation!
