The vasa recta are only in the juxtamedullary nephrons, reaching deep down into the renal medulla. The cortical nephrons only have peritubular capillaries.

Thanks for confirming this is true! I doubted myself a little when he was calling it vasa recta lol.

My professor lectured everything in section, which makes me super confused and felt disorganized. It's great to have this general overview of the function of the nephron. Really appreciate this, highly recommend to anyone who are struggling with kidney physiology.

I found this video to be super interesting. But if you had an exam on nephrology, how much of this content would be on an exam?
@jseanbrooks1
@jseanbrooks1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zux78 I'm looking through his nephrology videos to review for A & P and we are covering all of this plus a vast array of other info on the urinary system, I think the biggest thing missing in my class that he covered is the chemical reactions side of things. Pretty sure he's graduated med school so med school exams or MCAT is where the chemistry side of this would be likely to have the most prevalence I'd imagine.

So happy my professor advised us to watch this video! It was a true eye-opener that assisted me with better understanding the physiology of reabsorption and secretion. Dr. Azim I'm honored to have learned under your tutelage ...... you are on my BEST of the BEST list : ) Although, our class is ending, please know that I will always seek your advice and wise counsel (Loved your great analogies).

Great review. The nephron is incredible. As a RRT, I understand acid/base balance: metabolic alkalosis/acidosis and respiratory alkalosis/acidosis. The renal and respiratory systems work hand-in-hand to balance pH. This information is so important; because, it the basis for understanding ABG's and the consequences of abnormal ABG results. Thanx for the great presentation.

I'm a hs senior year student in Turkey, and I just wanted to say that, the way you explain it is much detailed and therefore clearer for me to understand what exactly is going on. No one teaches this system with this much explanation in Turkish sadly. I'm so glad that I finally understand biology because of you ❤️
