Female tiger chasing jeep in Corbett national park

Misleading title. The tigress is not chasing the jeep. However, I find it appalling that the authorities, all over India, in national parks and reserves allow this kind of 'eco-tourism'. The noise factor (of the vehicles overloaded with idiotic tourists jabbering away) is an act of extreme insensitivity towards our wildlife. We are already pushing the tiger to the brink of extinction. If this traumatized big cat were to attack and/or injure any of the tourists or the jeep drivers with 'guides', it would immediately be declared a man eater and shot!! Wake up before it is too late. Leave the tiger ALONE!!!!!!!

Arun Agnihotri exactly . I think govt has to educate people about this issue very seriously. Its not people's fault. They are takimg pictures coz they are not aware of the repercussion. But the fault of the system for such lackadaisical approach . This is how they do the conservation thing? My god! Govt need some extra teachings!!!

Where would they get the money to keep the national park open? The national park is there to keep the tiger population alive, not the other way around. If you feel so committed, you should sell everything you have and send all the money to those national parks.

+ruffgook, I completely agree, I have seen quite a lot of keyboard warriors and armchair philosophers preaching about how to preserve wildlife on youtube. Without tourism and associated income, those tiger reserves would have been completely decimated by now.

Generally, I agree with you. But having recently done a tour in Corbett, I honestly don't think the way the guides and tourists operate disturbs wildlife much. The regulations they follow of staying on the paths and only leaving the compound for safari in limited morning and evening hours is good policy. On my own tour, we spent a couple hours looking for a tiger and managed to see one and then spent the remainder of the two days looking for birds mostly. It was certainly troubling to see 20-30 jeeps during the morning and evening all clustered together looking the tigers on the trails they prefer. However, it seems to be only a mild inconvenience for the tigers. If they really don't want to be seen, they are perfectly capable of disappearing. My larger concern, as you pointed out, is that this kind of tourism particularly just chasing tigers for hours and hours... does not provide a very informative naturalist experience. It perhaps doesn't teach proper respect of wildlife, and the safari mentality can be damaging if people try to interact with nature that way in other contexts.

@@ruffgook national parks are self sustainable, you don't pay to keep them alive, you pay to ensure humans are not harmed. You and me are there, because the forest is there.... So no matter somebody visits or not we are paying for our survival not the other way around.

Good point. Tigers in the Sundarbans don’t see humans in cars and astride bikes while growing up. Therefore, whenever there is an interaction the tigers go for a kill. The tigers elsewhere in India grew up seeing people in vehicles and therefore are not reactive. However, if someone to get off a Gypsy and walk a few metres away from it with a Tiger watching the result can be nasty. The general “theory” that Sunderbans tigers are “man eaters” is bulshit.

Tigers dont kill just for the sake of it.......Tiger Hunts to kill and then feed....Tiger knows these little creatures in the jeep are not its kill simply cos itll not be able to feed with so many of them in there.......Lions could be dangerous in this scenario even though they are less ferocious they are social beings and live in a pack.......6-7 of them roaming around near the jeep could be a real danger if they are hungry and in desperate search of food.

Most of these idiotic tourists are one timers. For them this was the paisa vasool. We must have cameras fitted on Jeeps to keep an eyes on driver and passengers rowdy behavior. Bar them for fire visit to any parks. But before that adequate warning and 10 mins lecture on dos and donts when they enter the gate ,Driver and guides included. After that heavy penalty on driver , guide and passengers. No stopping of Gypsy for for more then 10 mins when the tigers are sighted. I have seen Gypsy don’t move if they reach the location first . They don’t give others a chance to get a clear view.
