This may sound weird but thank you for saying vagina.😂 I've just found it frustrating when people in videos sidestep the word when there isn't anything wrong with it. I am so happy you did this video, I truly believe there isn't anything wrong with talking about the female body, and It's so important that women, especially younger women, learn how our bodies function so we can take care of ourselves. Thank you for stepping up and being a big sister. 💜

I lost my mom when I was three, and I was the oldest my sister was like 1 when she passed. My stepmom never taught us anything, I remember when I got my first period I was crying because I had NO IDEA what was going on. (Sex Ed never taught us about it) It was my DAD that took me to get my tampons and ice cream. He bought a whole bunch of books on mood swings and girl puberty just so he could help us. But no research in the world could amount to what a woman can teach you, you taught me a bunch of new stuff today that I'll definitely pass on to my little sis. Thank you! ❤️

In defense of your mom, who is my age, we grew up in a different era. You would shudder at the lack of information we were given in the olden days. You are a very brave, inspiring young lady with a platform to impact the lives of young girls who so desperately need positive role models. It is a testament to your mother's parenting skills that you are doing so in such a positive way. She has done an AMAZING job. However, PLEASE go to a GYN. They are not just for those who are sexually active. Birth control pills are treating symptoms not cause AND changing your system with hormones has it's own set of risks.

I went through this when I was 14. After only having my period for 2 years at that point my body never evened out on its own. I would bleed heavily for months, I couldn’t keep up and would ruin jeans and underwear. Going to a doctor who was very concerned helpful was the best thing I could have done. It took patience and trying difference things to find the solution. Ultimately birth control was the best solution for me as well. But I tried almost all of them out there before figuring out which one my body responded to best. So even if that one doesn’t work keep trying! Have patience and a support system and you will get back to being yourself ❤️ And I agree, if somethings not right go see someone. The best piece of advice a doctor or gave me was if it’s interfering with your everyday life it’s something you should seek care for.

I love how open and real you are about this stuff. We need more of this in the world. I was never taught anything about feminine hygiene growing up and barely knew what a period was or how to deal with it so when I was trying to have a baby I had no idea that my cycle wasn’t normal and that I had fertility problems because of it. Things would have been much simpler if I’d just had someone to have these types of conversations with. Thank you for always being so real!

Girl you've gotta get a copy of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"! I honestly never truly understood a monthly cycle and the hormones behind it until I got a copy of this book. It may really help you find some answers as to why your cycles may be out of whack and also help you to understand how birth control can mask fertility issues rather than truly solving them. I'm not saying that to discourage you from using the pill, just encouraging you to learn more about it from the book. It is empowering to understand how God designed our bodies to work!

I’m a bit shocked to hear that a general physician said not to see an ob/gyn if you weren’t sexually active. I hope anyone seeing your video and reading the comments will realize (if they also didn’t know) that it’s a good idea to start going as a teen. I’ve seen annual visits recommended starting anywhere between 13 and 18 years. It’s good to have an ob/gyn you trust who knows your medical history before issues come up. It’s great that you’re being so open. Seems like lots of young women follow your channel and look up to you, so this may have helped someone who may have been embarrassed to ask someone else.

Obgyn doctors do not perform a yearly exam anymore, doesn't matter if you are sexually active or not. If the exam comes back clean, do not expect another for at least 3 - 6 years. They will not perform an exam if you are under 21 unless you have an issue or are pregnant.

Hey cool my mother is a sonographer too. Your pet peeve is an issue she has too! I was very blessed to have a mother to mentor me through sexual education in anatomically accurate conversations. I strongly believe that every person (especially women) needs to be well informed about their bodies and not be ashamed of them. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people use anatomically incorrect terms for their genitals. The correct names give a sense of power and education. It is especially important for children to know the terms incase they have been sexually abused.

I hate to say this, but if anyone is planning to see an OBGYN, see a young doctor. My older GYN told me that I need to have a period at least every 3 months because if I had endometriosis like we suspect, birth control would make the endometriosis continuously grow. Here's the problem... Every nonprofit I've read info from says that birth control prevents your uterine lining from building up. It's not a real period; it's a withdrawal bleed. And one in particular said that continuous birth control is a way to manage endometriosis. So I asked my young GP about it, and he had no problem with putting my birth control on a continuous cycle. If everything works out, I could have 36 less migraines a year. That's an entire month of my life back. And I wanted to share this in case anyone else is struggling with having to choose between potential chronic pelvic pain and migraines. Please talk to a young, skilled doctor who continues their education beyond med school, because there is a ton of conflicting information out there about birth control. That's it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk :D

That's awesome! Yeah we suspect that I have it, but so far, the pain hasn't been bad enough to warrant the surgery to check it out. I do think I have an adhesion somewhere on the right side of my uterus. It feels like a fish hook is tugging on something in there every so often.

Hey there, Just to understand ir better, did your doctor decide it would be better for you to keep the birth control? Mine said it would be better but that may be the reason to my migraine, the pill itself would cause it. If you can explain it better, I‘d really appreciate it!

I have endometriosis and so did both my grandma and mom, so it's hereditary. Personally I was put on birth control at about 16 or 17 solely because I complained about seriously bad period cramps and heavy periods, as well as my period was inconsistent (would sometimes be up to a month late and always lasted at least a week). That mixed with family history of the disease made my family doctor put me on it. Ever since then (I'm 21 now) my periods have been completely normal and I'm thankful for it. My mom never got birth control for hers but she eventually got the surgery in her 20's. Hers was even more severe than mine so I can't imagine going through that for so long. Birth control definitely helps and I highly suggest it for endometriosis sufferers.

This stuff is so important to talk about among women and girls! My mom and I were pretty open about all this kind of thing but it took me a while to tell her about a feminine problem I was having for almost 4 years because I was so embarrassed. I ended up having to get a minor surgery to correct it and I was good in no time, so I seriously wish I'd done that sooner. I think stuff like this is what helped empower me to actually make a change and get my problem solved, hopefully it will empower other girls too!

How brave of you to share all of that. Im sure you have had all blood tests and everything done and you are perfectly healthy. Hormones really are so troubling for young women and old. I had one UTI after i got married and had no idea about it or what it was. Then an old friend and teacher of mine best explained it: “ its like your body takes time to get used to another persons body and their ‘stuff’ being passed on” that made me feel so much better and normal. We made sure no ‘stuff’ passed on then 😂 and it worked.

Oh my goodness, I'm emotional. I went through a similar situation. My periods started coming every few months at the beginning of this year, and then in the summer it was every two weeks with spotting every other day in between. I would throw up, I was dizzy all the time, and I couldn't even work because it was so draining. I went to an OBGYN but I feel like she didn't take me seriously at all. She did the pap smear without talking to me much and prescribed me BC. I almost lost my job because she didn't sign my LoA papers because, "If it was that bad, I should have went to the ER." I don't have insurance or ER money. Thankfully the ladies at my job understood and overrode my absences. :( But it just sucks. It needs to be talked about. It hurts when others try to diminish period problems because they don't see it as "that" bad. Sorry for the long comment. I just felt compelled to share. BC is helping me regulate my periods so far and it's getting easier.

Periods suck. Thanks Adam and Eve. Seriously though, I wasn't having periods and then I lost 75 pounds and it came back. But it was hell. Heavy, longer than a week, painful. I used vitex to correct it. I don't make enough progesterone naturally and it's lead to miscarriages and complicated pregnancies. I'd definitely recommend you get your hormones tested and fix the root there. Birth control is a band aid for symptoms, you'll feel great, but when you do marry and become sexually active you might find the problems just come right back or are worse. Always best to treat the root problem! UTI's. If any of y'all struggle, I gotcha! I've had many of them and I always treat at home. My midwife is totally cool with it as long as it doesn't drag on and on. At the first symptoms (burning when you pee/urgent feeling but you don't need to pee) I sit on the toilet, drink 32 ounces at least as fast as I can and I pop a uricalm for the pain and I take cranberry pills 4 at a time 4 times a day. Abstain from sex while you have a UTI, it'll help clear it faster. Keep drinking water all day. If you feel like you're drowning, drink more. I've had them last 2 days maximum doing this. If you get them a lot just make cranberry pills a part of your daily routine. Pop a few after dinner daily. It helps so much.

Make sure to eat something so you don't over hydrate. When you drink a ton of water you need to remember to eat something with salt so that you don't strip your electrolytes, which can be extremely dangerous. It's very rare, but I've had it happen to me before.

I like that you made this video for girls and women alike. I'm 35 so I have been dealing with feminine issues for a while. I never had regular periods, it would skip months regularly. I was taking regular birth control but it started messing with my hormones and making feel not feel good. So then I started taking the same birth control you are on (but I was taking it to not get pregnant) and I kept having break through bleeding. I told my doctor and before he could switch me, I got pregnant! I was 22 and already had a 9 month old son. So, I just want girls to be aware that it can happen. Yeast infections happen and UTIs happen. When you take antibiotics, your birth control loses some effectiveness. It can also cause you to get a yeast infection. I like to use vagisil soap or baby soap for my foofie. Both are very gentle.

Dude I was so worried like “oh another KZbinr is going to say your vagina is supposed to smell like flowers and taste like fruit” but then you actually had good advice (and people-scented stuff is a quick road to infection city and changes the PH balance down there don’t do it, be gentle, vaginas self clean). Thank you for this video! I’ve personally had to go to an OBGYN since I was very young, so I know this topic very well unfortunately. It’s good seeing a KZbinr wanting to create a safe space with actual good advice that won’t lead to bad things. Also I had the same thing period wise when mine started at 14! I had my period, started my period, by having it for two months straight, then a few day break, then again, so we put me on birth control and I’ve been on it since. So I feel your struggle there. And to the young girls, India is right. If you think something is wrong, GO SEE A DOCTOR. You can’t trust the majority of stuff on the internet about this. And if they give you stuff to put up in there, patch test it on your wrists and inner knee first to avoid allergic reactions in a place you really don’t want to be having them. Also, even if you aren’t sexually active, one you are 21 you need to go in for pap smears to check for cervical cancer. Thanks for the vid, India!

The same thing happened to my sister, she had her period for like 3 weeks in a row and she went to the doctor. She was on the pill (she is a virgin but she takes birth control pills to regulate her period) and the doctor gave her stronger pills and now she is fine! Going to the doctor is the best advice, thank you India for being such a great role model :) Love from Spain!

I started on birth control well before becoming sexually active as a way of helping with horrendous heavy and painful periods! It really helped me a lot, but over the years your body and life circumstances change, so it's good to always speak to your doctor if the birth control your using isn't suitable anymore - there's so many kinds out there and everyone is different. One thing I will say, I've also gone through times of continuous periods and it's been one of my bodies reactions to times of high stress and/or anxiety. This year I lost 3 grandparents within a couple of months of each other, and that played havoc with my body! People sometimes think mental health as being something 'without scars' if you know what I mean? But it can have some very real physical affects! Especially if you don't deal with/look after your emotions. I don't normally comment on videos (and I didn't mean this one to be so long! Sorry) but I really like your videos and how open you are about things like this, which start such important conversions for women - and also how you're open about not having all the answers and want that conversation with your viewers. Some of your content, like this video, is very brave! (Hopefully without sounding condescending) well done! I noticed one of your other comments said her continuous period was due to cancer, another reason to always see a doctor if you're worried, but don't rule out that a break/holiday with some serious "me time" might also help you and your body get back to your 'normal' - look after yourself and I hope you feel better soon x

Omg I take LoLo! I have been on it for 3yrs and I can’t imagine my life without it! I completely understand what you’re going through. When I was in my teens (I am 21 now) I had PAINFUL periods... and I don’t mean just something a little ibuprofen could fix. My mom had to pick me up from school because they would immobilize me. I couldn’t walk, stand, or sit from the pain on the first day of my period. I would scream and roll around in pain. Ibuprofen and pain killers wouldn’t do a damn thing. I would be throwing up and sooner or later the pain would knock me out to sleep. My periods were also very heavy (I had to change my pad every 2hrs). I was always regular (21 days ON THE DOT) but I couldn’t help feeling like periods weren’t supposed to be this painful. Luckily at one of my OBGYN visits my GYNO told me I have dysmenorrhea and got me on LoLO to help. I now feel very leveled out mentally and emotionally, and now I don’t menstruate at all! It’s truly helped me so much. I hope all goes well for you ❤️

Gurl, I love you! Thankyou for making this. There needs to be more girly convos out there. I'm your age & was on birth control for like 4 years. I got on it for both birth control & acne reasons (with little info about it since they prescribe it like candy) & when I chose to stop to take the natural route so many of my problems disappeared! I used to get super heavy & ridiculously painful periods (to the point of nearly passing out), yeast infections, mood problems, & more all while on the pill. 2 years ago I got into natural & somewhat toxin free living & chose to go off it. I had no issues & all the current ones cleared up. I've never looked back. I've been with my fiancé for 4 years & we're getting married in 2 months. We're not ready for a baby just yet so.. using other measures.. but if we did get pregnant we'd be happy with it anyway. I feel for you & would recommend you read the book WomanCode, use the app MyFLO to track your symptoms & find solutions, & check out their website/blog FLOLiving. Alisa Vitti is all about fixing your hormones through diet/lifestyle measures & I'd totally recommend. She has programs you can do as well. The pill will not fix your problems, only mask it & possibly cause others. Find the real cause! But I hope that whatever you choose to do will help you coz I know what it's like. Also make sure you're not iron deficient. Lots of love from Australia xox

Also I hope you are not stressing yourself out too much. Last year I went through immense stress because of my job and boss and school. I feel like thats what threw my hormones out of whack and I had strange symtoms like severe acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea, and strange abdominal pain. I had tests and everything done and they said i was normal except of H Pylori positive. But i am now sure it wasnt the Hpylori it was my hormones thrown out of balance because my periods were weird too. I quit my job and rested alot and indulged in things i love. I also prayed alot and prayed i would be healthy. I am much better now and my periods are back normal. Thank God. ❤️

I started BC when I was younger to prevent some of the weird issues I was having. I had no cramps and light bleeding during my periods but had super horrible lower back spasms and fatigue plus a good bit of morning sickness. Once I started BC pills, everything calmed down to a bearable level. Now, I've been on LoLoestrin for 6 years (didn't start with that one) and don't have any periods or symptoms. It's not uncommon on LoLoestrin. It took me several months to get used to it but now, I LOVE it. I can't back you up enough about going to a Gynocologist and talking about things. It's not scary and they can help you with feminine health, general health, and even your mental health if you need some support.

I’ve recently been researching estrogen dominance. It can make things difficult as well. I bought some magnesium bc I heard it helps with that and OCD. We’ll see. I asked my doctor a long time ago to refer me to a good gyno but nope. She’s a good doctor though. Just have to do the research. ALSO! Tip: If you’ve never been to the gynecologist and you’ve experienced some sort of sexual abuse or assault, let them know. You could even have the front desk put a note in your file so you don’t have to talk about it if you’re too nervous. Ask for a woman if that makes things easier or whatever you think would be less stressful. I got this advice from another commenter on KZbin yesterday. I didn’t even think about that.

My best advice is just to find what works for you and don't just settle for what someone else tells you. I had an older male obgyn at first, he rushed me through my first pap and wrote me a prescription for ortho tricyclen. Let me tell you, I had the worst reaction. My mood swings were all over the place and I felt like I was going crazy, and I had my first and only two yeast infections. I switched doctors to a much younger female one, she changed my prescription to a way lower dose pill, and I felt waaaayyy better. Best of all I could actually talk to her about what was going on in my life and with my body. I have a hormonal iud now, as she recommended it and it's been pretty great. Not everyone I know has had the same reaction to an iud, one girl I know said it started causing her to have PCOS symptoms, but most women I know with an iud have found it pretty easy to adjust to and it's supposed to be much easier for your body to recover from once you decide you want to have kids. I recommend everyone should see an obgyn they like and trust as soon as they turn 18, even if you're not sexually active.

love this video, I think this is super helpful to normalize the conversation about vagina and femine health. I hate that as women we feel weird about talking about our bodies and vaginal health especially with other women. I'm on lo loestrin fe and the great thing about it is periods become soo much shorter, I've even gone a month or two with my period completely skipping and my GYN says thats normal. Hope it works for you.

I got the Nexplanon arm implant and it completely stopped my periods, but I definitely had some issues with it for the first year. It was the same exact issues that you were having. Suuuuuper long "periods"(honestly it was just random spotting) and some heavier bleeding. It was extremely frustrating and I really contemplated getting it out for a little bit, but I stuck it out and it's perfect now. The implant can take up to a year to fully settle with your body, which is super annoying but I personally think it's worth it, especially if you're sexually active and you can't remember to take pills. I loved this video!! Good going, girl :)

Good for you for listening to your body and advocating for yourself. You know your body best because you live in it and you know when things are “off”. As someone who struggled with recurring UTIs in my early 30s, I was put on a type of antibiotic that I would warn others about-especially athletes. The class of antibiotics known as “quinolones” include drugs like Cipro or Levaquin, and for some people, they cause ruptures in the tendons, particularly Achilles. If you’re an athlete and you need to take antibiotics for bacterial infections (whether urinary or respiratory or whatever), consider asking for alternatives to quinolones from your prescribing physician.

Hi,great video, it's so awesome of you to talk about important stuff ! I have long and painful periods too. My GYN wanted to put me on birth controls too ( I'm not sexually active). My cousin suffered through the same and she had PCOS and I was kind of bordering that, but she told me and I've also heard from many people, in long term your hormones are more rampant with the pills. I might be entirely wrong and it depends on person to person too but I would highly suggest do your research on it without fully giving in to it. Also get your hormone levels and all tested before resorting to pills. P.S - I'm not saying that pills (birth control) are bad but I've heard you shouldn't resort to it unless required and there isn't other way.

I started my birth control journey at 15, about 3 years after I originally started my period (which is it’s own fun story). I started getting pain in my abdominal area and for months my mom thought I was faking the pain to get out of class. It was so bad I was in pain 3 weeks out of the month popping Tylenol like candy. I described it as getting stabbed then someone turning the knife. It was horrible. My mom did take me to the doctor who sent me in for an ultrasound. I had cysts forming and popping. Also I apparently had a UTI and didn’t know it so I have had one but couldn’t tell you what one feels like. I’ve been on 4 or 5 types of birth control. Including: at least 2 different pills, Depo and currently Nexplanon. Most of the changes in my birth control are because I have to keep the amount of estrogen in my body low for fear of heart attack or stoke (I had a stroke as an infant so I’m at risk of another). Progesterone I believe is the name of the hormone I’m on in case you were curious about a non estrogen solution. If you have questions about Depo or Nexplanon I’d be happy to answer from a user perspective, I am not or do I claim to be a doctor.

India, thank you for sharing your personal experiences on what can be an uncomfortable topic! I noticed that in your description of your period issues, it sounded like they haven't really gotten to the bottom of why your hormones are all over the place. You may have left this part out because it was too personal, but please, please speak with your doctor at length and find the root cause of your hormones issues rather than only taking BC pills to alleviate the symptoms of the problem. You are such a great person and so many people love your videos (myself included, of course!), we all just want the best for you! The hormonal issues could be a symptom of a larger problem, so it's worrisome when you're not well! ♥️ Good luck!! Xo

I had the same thing. SCARY blood flow and excruciating pain that I couldn't do anything but lay in bed the first 3 days. I had the same procedure and prescription of birth control pills. But i was so sensitive. I felt like I was freaken out on premenstrual syndrome. So I stopped. But i ate the standard American diet. And i had other problems too. Asthma. And symptoms of arthritis in my hands, wrists, and lower back pain. I changed my every day diet to a vegan plant based diet. It's all good and healthy now. No more cramps and breast tenderness. I have normal blood flow thats on time once a month. I don't have arthritis and no more health problems. I don't go to the doctor anymore for perceptions. It's amazing. I think it's the hormones in dairy and hormones in meat or any animal foods. The bacteria and antibiotics and fecal matter in the meat. It's all very unhealthy. I eat a high carb low fat . Try reading The Starch Solution by Dr. McDougal and check out nutrition facts.org with Dr.Greger on KZbin... You don't have to suffer.

Hi India, thanks for your openness in sharing your struggles. I second what another viewer recommended by reading Taking Charge of Your Fertilizer by Terri Weschler. If you like Podcasts, I enjoy Fertility Friday, it’s helped me learn so much about my hormones. Usually extended bleeding is related to low progesterone, I suffered with a similar situation a few years back and did the same thing as you: went on birth control, but suffered a lot of side effects. It was that experience that led me to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility which has been life changing for me. Body literacy is so important, I knew next to nothing about my feminine self: my parents are fairly conservative evangelicals and were deeply uncomfortable discussing our bodies except to reinforce celibacy before marriage. It will get better by God’s grace, thanks for being salt and light to young women, if this only existed 20 years ago for me, lol.

ALSO, the horse sized pill? I feel that. For some reason I'm super prone to what I assume are yeast infections because it has all the signs of one. However, any time I see my doctor about it she says the test came back negative. Which confuses me because they say that Monistat and the prescription pill will get rid of it IF it is a yeast infection and it won't do anything if it isn't one. And for me it always gets rid of it. So it's annoying to be so prone to these issues but not know how to stop it because I don't know exactly what it is. I just have to keep temporarily treating it, and Monistat is frickin expensive!
