This video covers the basics of Ann Eaton's Essay entitled Painting and Ethics as represented in Aesthetics, A Reader in the Philosophy of the Arts, by David Goldblatt, Lee B. Brown, and Stephanie Patridge. This essay discusses possible ways in which we can understand the relationship between the ethical value of a work of art, especially painting, and the aesthetic value of a work of art. She considers views that she refers to as moralism, separatism, and ethicism. In this essay she also shows a feminist analysis of a work of art such as Titian's Rape of Europa can help to clarify the origin of the ethical value of a work of art.
