Late to the party as usual, but wanted to say thank you for the video. Informative, moving, and a great example of allyship!

The "unpaid work" thing is one of the dumbest talking points ever. First of all, not all activities have to be paid. The person that pays for someone to activity to be done or "work" is the one that sees how that work adds value to them. If I want my room to be cleaned, I can clean it myself or pay someone to do it, since I'm the one interested that my room is cleaned and noone will do it for free. I shouldn't expect to get paid for cleaning my own room. This applies to cleaning the house, cooking, taking care of your children or your parents, etc. If you don't want to clean your own house, get a maid. If you can't afford it or want to save those dollars, then there is not other option than cleaning it yourself.

It seems you missed the entire point of the video. Willingness to pay is a market-driven concept. Did you also see the definition of"work" I used? Cleaning your own room doesn't qualify. Caring for others does qualify. I encourage you to watch again, more carefully.

@@VladBunea Why would caring for your own family, including parents and children qualify but cleaning your own house doesn't qualify? What is tbe difference from cooking your own food (including family), caring for your own family and cleaning your own house? Why would a third party pay for the things that have to be done that benefit you. I understand if you want to pay for someone else to do those activities, but noone will pay for you to do your own chores and that is okay. To be clear, you do say that cleaning your own room qualifies. Quote "Indirect care such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes." Again, why would you expect to get paid from washing your own clothes or your own family's clothes? Those are activities that benefit you. You would be the one interested on paying someone else to do it. That's why there is a market for maids, cooks, laundry, etc. You don't want to pay, then your'll have to do it yourself.

@@pedromora9927 That indirect care you quoted is for others, not yourself. Understand that care work is something that is done for social reproduction, as I also defined in the video. All that care work should be valued and paid, but NOT through market mechanism (which is finding someone willing to pay for it), as if I have not made that clear already. Some solutions: Universal Basic Income, Universal Basic Services, Universal Autonomy Allowance etc.

Looking at the comments here, I knew this would happen, men commenting on stuff they’re ignorant about.

What an absolute joke. It scares me that people actually believe this.
