I don't know how to feel about this. I'm gay, and while I do get upset when straight people dismiss testimonies of the trauma of growing up gay, I also don't take lightly the possibility that I could still be wrong about various experiences. For instance, I really could erroneously perceive that something happened because of homophobia, when in reality it was caused by something else entirely. As well, a straight researcher could have data that would help contextualize a personal experience of mine. It seems to me a synthesis of all opinions weighed equally would be the only strategy we should utilize if we're actually interested in truth.

there are experiences women have that men never can. so that's the kind of knowledge we have that men cannot.. aside from just believing our accounts.
