Well yes, but no. There were good reasons why Warhammer Fantasy Battles was shafted. Namely that GW's strategy of getting established players to pay more money was to constantly increase army sizes/reduce individual point costs which had made it nearly impossible to get new players into the game. You needed to put several hundred Euros/Dollars/Pounds on the table before you even knew if you actually enjoyed the hobby. And it had gotten so bad that just the Space Marine Tactical Squad box outsold the whole Fantasy range. WHFB desperately needed a refresh and a game mode which allowed newbies to enter the game. That's where AoS originated from. But of course, in typical GW fashion they could not keep both Fantasy games around to profit from cross-pollination. No, they had to nuke the whole system (because then they could rename everything and put a trademark on it). To this day I have no idea why GW suffers from the crippling phobia of players being able to use models in more than one game system.

I’d rather have no 40k show instead of one that caters to ‘modern audiences’. Lasted quite awhile on the books and outside media of Star Wars before the prequels dropped. ​@@chillchinna4164for scifi, i feel like mentioning Infinity (a newer interest for me though so not as knowledgeable in it, but heard about it fr a long while and always liked a few of their models) and dropzone/dropfleet commander (dropzone and dropfleet are in the same setting, its just that one is the ground game and the other the space game about dropping troops on the ground, think of a similar comparison between 40k and battlefleet gothic if both games had the same level of care). Not as thick lore-wise, but still good settings, and both have the rules and unit stats available online for free (meaning no need to buy books of any kind to play). Also while badly infected by wokies, Battletech is an option, this purely because the setting doesnt care about gender from its inception so there is little the wokies can even change, and because fans of it already went through a period where the holder of the IP died and kept the game alive despite it... And are fully willing to repeat that should Catalyst croak because of their woke infection (and a LOT of players dont even consider anything past the succession wars or clan invasion as canon, and thats out of reach for retcons since these are the works of the previous IP holder). Bonus points for battletech having similar lore depth to 40k, with the black pants legion videos on youtube (tex talks Battletech) for plenty of THICK lore videos (think the level of depth Arch used for the Siege of Vraks, used even for individual mechs). Basically a setting where its far easier to ignore the woke and the company going that way because the fans are already the true IP holders (may the the future of 40k) out of scifi, warmahordes (encompasses both warmachine and hordes, that are on the same setting and have compatible rulesets meaning you can combine factions from both games and have them play against eachother without issue) also seems nice though I never really dabbed into it because of GW-like model prices (horribly expensive)

Sisters of Silence were practically part of the Custodes since they worked together so closely; Sisters of Battle is a separate all-female faction that's basically nuns with guns, and women have been part of the guard, the mechanicus, inquisition, hell, most everything except a few men-only groups. Yes they do, but they get routinely ignored for some BS problem á la "The Space Marines are problematic because they are MEN ONLY". Seems like they went with the custodes since they are theoretically different from Space Marines, but even there the "they always had women" angle is absolute ass-pull levels of stupid. From what I recall they were derived from the first-born males of the original "Terran Nobles" when the Emperor went about the unification of Earth, post Techno-Barbarians. They specifically referred to males there, unlike with the "Vostroyan Firstborn", where the pledge were the "first born child" instead.
