The smaller your punch hole, the wider the band. A larger punch hole will produce more of a womens size ring. Here's how to get a 1/4" punch hole onto your mandrel.

Not only have you provided excellent instruction in a manner unique to you ( which keeps me loose because of the fun you seem to be having) but the way you’ve laid out your work station has made for me the process flow so much better. Thanks Fence Kid. May you stay forever young.

Andrew Richardson go onto etsy and look at coinringusa he has nice semi cheaper tools. I have a lot of them. Also a couple named coinringtools. They have a nice punch set called the mega punch for 150 or so comes with like 5 or six dif punch sizes. Also have nice end caps for your arbor press and your hydro press to make them 100% easier to use!

@Hurricane Polk I bought a self entering coin punch and it was half the price of the Jason Ross Auto punch, now that I know I enjoy and continue to make coin rings I really wish I would have paid the extra money and got the best punch which is by far the Jason Punch. I also wanted a Dursten ring stretcher/reducer six spline, but the cost is twice the price of the stretcher/reducer four spline I bought on Amazon ... I regret not buying the Dursten. If you have a hobby that you enjoy then its a good idea to invest in it. could use a hammer and ring mandrel if just making a few rings. Just saying

4:10 It's a 1-ton (they don't sell a 2-ton arbor press) press, from Harbor Freight. I have it, and a 1/2-ton that's still in its box. Mine was open-box, lower price because there was no handle so I use a 6" and 12" 3/8-drive socket extension. It was a perfect buy, really, considering everyone changes the handle on those arbor presses. That being said, thanks for making and sharing this video.

Hi, love the videos, but one request. When you are finished with the ring, could you set it down and get a closeup of the ring. You might also go for a closeup as you are changing machines just so we can see how it looks. Thanks Tom

Fence kid I've been watching you for quite some time. When I was a kid my dad made me a ring with a silver quarter and he flattened the rounding of it with a spoon. It took a long time to make a ring. I tried to get him to make me another one since I'm older, but it's just been too long. I really like the way yours turn out. I don't know what you polish them with but they turn out so shiny. I would be interested in purchasing a few from you. I really enjoy your videos, thank you so much for sharing your talent

Cool. The first ring I ever made was the tap out method you speak of. First couple actually. (One for my girl, one for me. my first couple ring vids I have were these rings) Then I upped my game by tapping out a half dollar, which came out way sweet. Once I figured out the fold over method, I haven't been back to the tap. I included a link to my ring shop in the description box. Thanks

Thanks so much for making these videos, I can't tell you how many of your tips I am putting into practice as I learn the craft of coin ring making. I was wondering if you might do a video about protecting clad rings with protectaclear or other coating, to prevent "green finger"? I know many experienced coin ring makers would suggest you only do real silver coins, but I thought offering clad rings would be a lower cost alternative to make available on my online shop or any craft shows (when I get good enough to get to that point)... anyway, thanks again for sharing your skills and knowledge, very appreciated!

Nice job. Do you finish off your rings with any sort of protection. I have been using a clear high gloss powder coat system. Makes them turn out nice. I’ve been making rings for about a year and a half. I make anything from a quarter size and up in American and international coins I also make them out of military challenge coins. Just wanted to say thanks. I got started by watching your vids and some other coin makers vids. Have a great day If you want to see any of the challenge coin rings I’d be happy to send you pics. Your opinion would be great

Hi, Another great video!! Thanks for making these, I've been quite captivated by them since stumbling across one of them awhile back. Couple of quick questions for ya, are you no longer using Liver Of Sulpher for the Patina? And have you come up with anything to prevent "Green Finger" when using the clads?? Again, thanks for the vids, Jim
@fencekid
@fencekid 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I still use LOS on silver rings. The fire scale left on these clads works out great for patina look. The best I've found to seal these rings is ProtectAclear. It's a resin type liquid that you bake onto the ring, and lasts longer than anything else I've tried, but it still eventually rubs off. There's just way to much rubbing action happening on hands. A ring necklace patina ring would last much longer

Would anyone happen to know if it is illegal to remove the engravings? I’ve made rings in the past out of wrenches and engraved them myselve and was wondering if I were to remove the engravings (dates, faces, wordings, etc) if that would be legal. I’ve sold rings made out of wrenches and say is it legal to sell coin rings, without their engravings or with new engravings? Or if at all?
@fencekid
@fencekid 6 жыл бұрын
Meme Lord Pepe As long as you arent changing the markings to pass the coin as higher value than the coin is worth (changing the date for example) yer good. The law pertains to fraudulent intent.
@memelordpepe7972
@memelordpepe7972 6 жыл бұрын
So let us say if I were to sand off all the dates, faces and what not to engrave Norce Runes such as Algiz or Tyr and so on that is totally legal?
@memelordpepe7972
@memelordpepe7972 6 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention this, could I then sell said coins? I watched your video if it were legal did the research but I feel it’s sll very vague.
@fencekid
@fencekid 6 жыл бұрын
Yes. The law pertains to "fraudulent intent" meaning yer going to manipulate the coin, the date for example, and then sell it for more money than it is really worth. Or another example would be to sand of one of Lincons ears, and claim it was a mistake made at the mint, and only a few of these coins were struck. Making them more valuable. Can your example be passed off as US currency? No. What you would be selling, is art. What ring making is doing, and what you're doing is more along the lines of removing currency from circulation. Is it against the law to throw coins into the abyss, never to be seen again? Or into a wishing well? No
@memelordpepe7972
@memelordpepe7972 6 жыл бұрын
Alright thank you. So based on what you tell me it is totally legal to sand off everything and then engrave because that is now art. The act of removing it from US currency and it is now art. The thing I was most worried about was engraving on it something entirely different, now I know I can sand and engrave my own touch(Norce Runes) I’m glad. If any of what I took from what you said is wrong do please tell me but I’ll begin engraving and sanding once im at that point.

Do you still make rings? Also. Do you ever make rings out of coins that people have? I purchased 2 quarters super sentimental to me and wanted to have a woman make rings from them for myself and my son, in honor of my father who passed... well. When the time came she said she no longer makes the coin rings due to being pregnant and not being able to expose her unborn child to the chemicals it requires to make the rings?
