Got it done, Vann, with your guidance. The tap didn't seem like it was taking much "meat" out of the chuck, but it works perfectly. 👍 I have also cut short strips of non-fiction tape, the widrh of the chuck jaws, and applied to the jaws to prevent any marking on the inside of the ring, especially the "cut" edge. Later...

Thanks Van, I may give that tiny chuck a try. I didn't like those rubber bumper ring holders. it's next to impossible to get the ring to run true, so i've just been jam chucking them on my lathe using a maple dowel. my only concern is when i went to amazon both chucks got terrible reviews. all i really need it to do is hold the ring without too much run out/wobble so i can sand the edge like in your video. Hello, since you put that bolt in by yourself rather than it being manufactured with that already attached, is it possible that I an but a different Chuck instead of that one? Been looking at the reviews on Amazon and that one only had 3 stars.
@VansWorld5 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t get good reviews but on my end it has been great. When using it to round an edge of a coin ring or to polish a coin ring the drill doesn’t go at high RPMs. If I had to do it again I would do like some others have told me in emails. They bought the lathe chuck and the 12x1 thread pitch straight shaft. That way there won’t be any wobble at all. Another person bought the 12x1 thread die and put the correct threads on a piece of round stock. Which is a good option too. I wouldn’t do the bolt thing unless your just trying to save money. Hope this helps. Here is a link to get the 12x1 thread die amzn.to/2Kcb8sg

So if I understand correctly, you get the tap which looks like a screw---and you screw it in the middle till it comes out the other end so that you are remaking the screw grooves in the center of the chuck so that you can use the bolt that you cut the head off of to attach it to your drill?

The tap will add a more common thread. You will need to go slow and make sure it’s straight going in or the chuck will wobble. You can find these chucks on amazon that have a shaft so you won’t need to tap the chuck. It’s actually cheaper to find one with a shaft.

Regardless, you helped a lot of us out, just seeing that these smaller chucks exist, and they can be turned with a drill chuck. So, so that your channel can be helped, in atleast a small way. Please attach a new jaw link; with or without a shaft, AMazon, ebay or wherever. Thanks Again. 🔨Lisa♿

I do not know if what I am about to ask you exists, or it might have been something in one of my VERY vivid dreams that can be so real. But is there a tool to attach to a lathe to make an inside out ring ??? As I have a small large at home, and do NOT want to have to buy ALL of them presses and dies that I have seen on the the Internet, as specially on KZbin. If such a tool exists, I would like to know what it is called, where can I get one from, and what would the price be. I live in England, so an English manufacturer would probably be better, as it would cutdown on shipping costs and any import taxes. But if you (or any of your followers) can help me, I would be eternally grateful, as I say, it is a LOT of money to fork out on equipment that I might ONLY use 2 or 3 times. Even to use a tool on my lathe would also be used a few times, but it could be put in the back of a drawer rather than taking up room bolted down on my workbench. Many thanks in advance, from John (AKA, Knobby) Keep knocking out the videos 👍🏽
