In this mini-series I'm building a close board feather-edge fence. This video covers mending a gate post, building the gates, understanding how to brace a gate to prevent sagging and attaching hinges. For a first attempt, I'm really happy with how the fence turned out.
Relationship with Evolution
It feels a bit odd to get free stuff but I made sure prior to accepting that there was no commitment to making a video or review and hence why I've not mentioned it before now. I had been planning on buying an Evolution mitre saw when I came across the Parkside in Lidl so I was keen to try it out and I think it's a good fit for viewers of the channel. This isn't a sponsorship or paid promotion but the links below to Evolution tools are affiliate. I've checked other sellers and the Evolution site seems to be equal or less £ than others (but do look around). You can use this link with the code 'ALIDYMOCK5 ' to get a 5% discount on any product: shop.evolution...
Below are the tools and materials used for the whole project, not just this video. The timber, postcrete and arris brackets came from countrysupplie... (deliver 40 mile radius around High Wycombe in SE England).

EVOMS Really enjoying this series. I love the fact you recycled the existing post. I used a cheap table saw for half lap joints on my gate, but it’s tough doing the laps at the midpoint.

⚙️ *EVOMS* 🛠 Well done on the progress so far Ali,as you sure are getting on well with the building of the gate. A note that I would suggest,is to perhaps treat the fences (Just don't know how cost-effective it would be) , or any other wooden structures/DIY Builds (Like your potting table in one of your other videos) with some *Yacht Varnish* ,as it sure makes the world of a difference in terms of preserving the wood in general I have found. Have done it with my potting table, and with my garden gate door, and can swear by the finished product as whole. Have made use of *"NO NONSENSE YACHT VARNISH GLOSS CLEAR"* (and does it fit your general brand suggesting aswell).. 😉 Keep those vids coming..and all the best of luck on the next stage. 👍🏻 Thanx again.🙏🏼

Very interesting. I’ve looked at that many times. My understanding is that for it to be effective the wood needs to be super smooth (sanded to a really high grade) like on a yacht so it wouldn’t do that well on rougher timber. There must be a reason it’s not used on cladding, decking, fencing or outdoor furniture...

@@AliDymock Most likely true, and a possibility in general...as the finish on boats do tend to look extremely well. (The process involved in getting the silk-smooth finish, is a trade-in itself, and is there *a lot* of sanding involved between the various coats) It is also a very thick (Almost like syrup and quite sticky..and thus would most airborne particles stick to it quite easily ) medium to work with and is the drying time slightly longer than normal. It is also an expensive (probably down to the composition of different chemicals) product, and could that be another reason why it does not get used on some of the wooden products that you've mentioned. I have even brushed it on the hinges (The metal parts that fit to the post and door in order to prevent it from getting corroded and oxidising over time...and does is seem to be working wonders,as there is no sign of oxidation,as there is on the actual hinge itself..and does it still have that smooth shine and finish to it..)... Thinking about it... all of my garden hand tools (Brooms,Pitch Fork,Pick Axe,Shovel & Spade and does the metal shaft, and pins that go into the handles still, have their nice shine to it..not to forget about the actual handles in itself.

EVOMS - another great series, I’m about to set myself to building a man cave/workshop combo replacing the growing kids trampoline with a den for them and a workshop for me. Your videos are just great and I love the technical bits as I really learn something rather than just learning how to dream! But first things first I need to redo my fencing (man cave needs a secure garden....) thanks again

Hey guys! It's good to get a first giveaway for the channel. Let's call this an early 25k subs celebration 🎉. It's 230V. I'll use a random name generator to choose the winner and reveal it in a future video. Good luck! To be clear this, this isn't a sponsorship or anything but I've written a bit more in the description for those interested, plus there's a 5% discount code for all of Evolution tools 👍
