I'm a 22 year old that's been a fan of the show for a couple of years now. One night my mom's friend who's been a professional guitar player all his life, touring all over Canada and Europe, came for diner and played through my rig. He wrote to me the next day saying "Man, can I come back to your place with my touring gear? I have to make my rig sound like yours". If that isn't the single greatest compliment a man can get, I don't know what is. Thanks Dan and Mick! (btw I'm running a PRS Mira flame top through a Hudson Sidecar or Broadcast -> Kingsley Constable -> Ecochord tape delay -> Catalinbread Talisman -> Strymon Deco into a Marshall JTM and a vintage Plexi-like Traynor in stereo)

I’ve been playing 18 months Justin Sandecoe teaches me technique My guitar teacher covers theory / turning technique into music TPS teaches tone / amp, making music inspirational I reckon all three are just as important as one another! I remember my guitar teacher interrupting me recently to say “that’s one of the best strat tones I’ve ever heard”... AVRI ‘62->Sunface bc-183->Golden Boy->Page->Ardx20->V40D... I said that’s Mick and Dan!

I have a lightly used '65' Super Reverb RI arriving tomorrow, Sept. 3rd, 2024, that I found on the Reverb! site. I had a real-deal 60's BF one back many years ago. Why I sold it I don't remember. At 72 I gotta do these things and get as much enjoyment from them as my years left are in small numbers. I also recently picked up a clean hand-wired Deluxe Reverb. IMHO it's far superior to the '65 DR being auditioned here. YEEHAW!! :)

Same. Much as the playing and listening is great, I'd get bored just watching more people playing more gear well on youtube. It's the discussion and knowledge sharing that makes it stand out. I don't want to just watch demos of gear if I'm not particularly likely to buy, but am still interested in. Discussion helps you get more of an idea of the "in the room" stuff that youtube can never properly translate.

I still own my original 1964 BFDR as well as my 1966 BFSR. I bought them back in 'The Day' when I was a young rocker. These two amps simply rock like no other! My '64 BFDR is my grab & go and still kicks a$$ on a gig-by-gig basis. (If you know, you know.) I also have many other original amps I bought through my playing career. (to name a few - Tweed '62 Champ, 3 Tweed '60 Deluxe's, '68 Drip edge Vibro Champ, '62 Brown Vibrolux. and various others - THD 30's and THD Plexi's - All tremendous in their own right) Thank You Mic and Dan for an absolutely wonderful review of these two classic and dare I say, 'Legendary Leo' designs. I have just recently discovered Ronnie Earl and got obsessed with his music and his personality! I rediscovered Super Reverb because of him this time. Here is my list of players using Super Reverb: - Albert Collins - Derek Trucks - SRV - Michael Landau - Ronnie Earl (with a lot of Reverb and always on Tremolo) - Robben Ford (some times) - Dave Specter (with Archtops overdriven with some Reverb and always on Tremolo, I think) - Carl Whethersby (with ES-335) - Matt Schofield (before 2012 when he switched to 100 Watt Two Rocks) - Volker Striftler (With Tele) - Nick Shebelen (WIth ES-335 and Strat) - Tinsley Ellis

Epic guys, truly epic. Yes the amps too, but also everything else. If you threw the money at me, I'd buy a Super, but man, what a show. The example of fuzz cleaning up with volume. The Mick-channels-SRV bit. The amazing sound of the Gretsch with tremolo and delay. Damn! It was all good. Chapeau.

Towards the end you guys describe why the deluxe is such a killer “pedal platform,” it lets each of those common (or garden) overdrive types speak with their own unique midrange character. Few amps do that as well to my ears. Also, wow the humbuckers, with their extra midrange into scoopy amps like these sounds magical!

Haha isn't it great we all have different tastes? Before I started this clip, I was sure I was gonna prefer the Super for cleans, and the Deluxe for pedals. Turns out I thought the Super handled those pedals _way_ better than the Deluxe. The clean tones were 50/50 to me. That really depended on the guitars they played and the settings they used. For my tastes and what I play, the Super (slightly) came out ahead. Sadly, both are way too loud for me to be of any practical use anyway. I need a bigger house. And less neighbours.

I hauled a silverface Twin Reverb around the music pubs with my band in the late 1980s early 90s...It was stupidly heavy but had a beautiful full clean sound...Pedals at the time were a Boss SD-1 Overdrive & CH-1 Chorus...My biggest fear was it breaking down at a gig, although it never did...I eventually succumbed to a Sessionette-75 2x12 which was a terrific little solid state amp for its time & less than half the weight of the Fender...Great show guys...Thanks so much!

Beautiful amps. As a Super Reverb owner and gigging musician (in Australia...luckily!) I think portability is a MASSIVE criteria here. I'm less inclined to take my Super over my Vox AC15 to most venues despite sonic preference. The Deluxe is more compact and convenient hence it being high on the 'next purchase' list. Love them both amd great demos here as usual. Really interesting vid, thank you :)

Just a thought, the stock speaker in the deluxe is a ceramic magnet (C12N I think), which will sound very different from the alnico speakers in the super. Regardless, love the video/channel. Stay safe and be well guys!

@@mendamp1715 I put a 60s P12N that came out of a Gibson ga20 in mine and it's great. There are so many great speaker companies now though so I'd just pick one and go alnico.

@@samsmall2214 I am thinking of doing the same: I believe p12N would taime a bit better the bass and less flubby than a p12Q right?? I have played a 65 deluxe with a p12Q and the sound was awesome but I noticed that after 3 on the volume the speaker starts to fart a bit out…

I'm pretty old fashioned, actually, I'll be 71 real soon. I tried the '65 Deluxe alongside my original 1966 or 67 Deluxe Reverb. They sounded amazingly the same. I left them on and just kept switching from amp to amp. I ended up buying the reissue to use at gigs. I really dig the reissue, so I'm not one of those guys that screams at the computer. Both fantastic amplifiers. Fender tried hard to keep the sound of the originals and I think they succeeded. Great video, fellows.

Thank you for once again a fabulous show! I would really be looking forward to a year-ending episode where you just look back with a list of all 2020 episodes, and ask each other questions. What have we learned there? What new questions emerged? What gear was the real star of that episode? Where was the fun in it? Or some other formula of your liking (a wheel of fortune with questions, questions from friends in VT, ... ) This way, we could wrap it up together. I just love every minute of the show.

Having had a couple of Supers back in my days, and I have a '65 Deluxe RI now, I'll add just one thing: being at one time a fairly accomplished chord melody practitioner, I noticed that the Super made it difficult to hear the interior voices of chords. Years after forming this opinion, I was surprised to find an interview where Joe Pass said the same thing. Otherwise, a fine amp. Re: the Deluxe: I think it may be the world's most versatile amp. The one I own I bought primarily because the Strat neck/middle sound is an important one for me. I call it the "hollow/sparkle" sound, not "quack" tone. "Quack" I can see for playing funk rhythm, but otherwise, I play even jazz standard chord melodies with it. I think of it as guitar's answer to the Harmon mute: think late night, rainy streets, Miles Davis. Very untraditional, I admit, but it doesn't sound anything like "quacking" to me. And the Deluxe did that sound in spades. Why shouldn't it have? Fender invented it, albeit unknowingly. Actually, I had a Vox AC something for a while, and it did that sound even better than the Deluxe. But don't tell Leo.
