We take the Fender Acoustasonic Tele and see how it compares the one of the original "hybrid" guitars, the Godin A6 Ultra.
We choose an acoustic and electric example of each and let you decide which comes out on top!

The A6 sounds better. Another big advantage is the duel outputs. Electrics sounds better in an amp. And you can blend easily with a volume pedal vs switching between the two.

I just purchased the Acoustasonic Telecaster and used it live through a Boss GT1 Guitar processor plugged directly into the PA. I used a natural clean sound with only reverb for the acoustic sound blended position 5 A/B and for the electric crunch sound I added a bluesy crunch gain with very light chorus and delay for lead and it sounds great. I love the versatility and the fact that I only need to bring 1 guitar to the gig now.

The Godin has a much more natural acoustic sound and I imagine that has to do with how it is setup electronically there is no digital voicing. However the Acoustasonic has the better electric guitar performance it was tighter (less flubby sounding). The beauty of it is if you are a strictly clean player and spend more time acoustically the Godin will handle that job beautifully. If you are playing electric more than acoustic the Fender shines in the electric area but can be dialed back to provide a fairly decent acoustic sound when needed but gives the neck feel an electric player would not feel out of place playing. The other beautiful thing is that there is nothing saying you cannot own both for different applications. Either way you go they are both finely created instruments that are to a degree adding a level of versatility that was not available in years past.

I've had a Godin A6 for a few years now, and love/play it every day. It's my go-to whenever I need a strum/noodle; just handles and sounds great. Sounds great unplugged, and awesome when amped-up. Was thinking about the Acoustasonic, but this Vid convinced me to stay with the Godin (have a couple of other Godins too, and having played Fender, Gibson and others, I am convinced that they are still a great guiitar in ther price-range, and never dissapoint (unlike some of the 'Big' brands IMHO and experience).

I really like how nice and clean the Godin sounds. Really will go for this Godin A6 ultra for now as it is more affordable. But still want to see a comparison of Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster and the Godin Multiac Steel 😊 Thanks for the review.

I just got an A6 ... nicely put together, and excellent tone. One thing this video didn’t mention about the A6 - the output is way hotter than a typical acoustic. That will be handy at an open mic (if we ever have them again, post-COVID) because I find guitar volume way too low at most open mics with inattentive sound guy.

Nice demo, I am a big Godin fan since I 1st heard and played the original 1989 Acousticaster by Godin. With its 18 harmonically tuned tunes nothing beats it's unique tone on stage. I use it for recording too. Selling a couple on my Reverb

I’ve owned and played a Godin A6 Ultra for about twenty years. When I perform, 90% of what I play is acoustic. Everything is acoustic driven. I use the magnetic pickup when I play short leads over a looped section of a song. The Godin works very well for my purposes. Twice, I’ve bought Taylor T5s. I sold both of them because the acoustic sound on the T5s doesn’t come close to matching the acoustic tone(s) I can get with the Godin. I bought an Acoustasonic Tele about three years ago in hopes that the acoustic tone(s) would be significantly better. They’ve aren’t. I’m not sure they are as good. Also the Acoustasonic was much more expensive than my Godin and the frets had burrs on them. That’s ridiculous for an $1,800.00 guitar. I took it back and got a refund after a week of buyer’s remorse. If you want a quality acoustic sound and you want to play some lead through a hummbucker, buy the Godin. The other two options I’ve tried (T5 and Fender) are more expensive and they really don’t do what a hybrid guitar is intended to do as well as the A6.

Am I understanding this correctly.. the acoustosonic is digitally prosessing all the raw sounds before it comes out of the guitar. So all it really does is process sounds inside the guitar rather than outside with pedals? Seems like you could take any old guitar shape and run it through enough sound processing to get that (roughly). I thought the a6 sounded fuller in every case should be easier to subtract frequencies with one eq pedal outside the guitar to get closer tones if that is what you really wanted.
@rutlandboy

I have both. The Godin is a very different guitar to the Acoustasonic (Tele in my case). I think you hit the nail on the head when describing the neck radii and the flat profile of the Godin as more typical of an acoustic guitar, whereas the fender neck is very much an electric guitar neck. The fender does have some great acoustic tones available though. If I was gigging and could only take 1 guitar with me it would be the Fender.

Godin all the way. I run the Acoustic through a Boss AD-10 then the electric out through a Zoom G3xn and out to the line 2 input on the AD-10 and bypass all the acoustic processing that the AD-10 provides on the acoustic side. Now I have 1 line out of the AD-10 into the PA. Awesome set up.
@tomedwards81
@tomedwards81 Жыл бұрын
Can you tell me how you bypass the acoustic processing on the AD-10? I know you can assign different eq’s for each input, but I thought the acoustic resonance, compression, delay etc were either on or off for both channels at the same time.

Godin has that piezo sharper sound, brighter with a little acoustic-type buzz. The Fender has a deeper more muted and mellow sound. I own or have player neither, but the Acoustasonic looks like it plays more like an electric guitar, the A6 more like an acoustic. What kind of strings? Nice playing.

If you use an amp modeler or all in one pedal instead of a combo amp then The A6 is the best choice as far as sound is concerned. The reason I say this is because acoustic modelers are typically not all that great and the Godins natural acoustic sound is superb, As a matter of fact it's might be one of the best sounding acoustic I have heard plugged in. As far as the Electric tone goes, It has a single active humbucker with Treble and Bass EQ this is very different from what most electric players are used to. You have to do some serious tweaking and have multiple channels available to cover a wide range of sounds. This is very doable with a modeler but you might not be to happy with it plugged into a simple combo amp.

I own the Godin A6 ultra, great guitar, you need to remember what you want these for, neither of these are going to rock it out like a Strat or play acoustic like a Taylor, however if you are playing in a club and just need a bit of electric oomph for the odd song at the flick of a switch I'd choose the Godin, considering the price is what? 500 less than the Fender, even less if you get a 2nd hander, for me the Fender just ain't worth the extra money for what is in reality a multi tool master of none guitar, buy the Godin. 🤣

@@williamwade3507 Hi William 100%, but it's a good back up to have if you throw a string mid gig on either an acoustic or electric. But for me I play mostly acoustic with an odd Rock/blues number thrown in so it suits me to use for those then turn change the sound until the set is over. But still a nice guit and worth the dosh.. 😉

I have the A6 as well. And as a Tele guy I wanted to love the Fender but the A6 for the price is much more functional. Especially if you play in a seated position the Acoustisonic just wasn’t comfortable.

To be honest I would need a lot more full chord strumming to get a sense of which is best for that task. And that inevitably gets into the range of acoustic sounds available via the Fender. To me the Godin is for the acoustic rhythm/singer songwriter player who occasionally needs some electric grit blended in. The Acoustasonic has more lead potential and a wider range of possible acoustic sounds. It strikes me more as a tool for an electric artist who is looking to add little ear candy bits. Just my 2 cents.

I do agree. There is almost no reviews about the Acoustasonic with players strumming the guitar harder and with with picks and doing also some riffs/licks and bar chords in addition to somo soloing ON the acoustics sounds. That's the way I use my Acoustasonic telecaster. Most of the the reviews has the players playing it to carefully and a bit soft, mainly fingerpick. I dont use that way in my gigs. By the way, I do own the A6 Ultra since ever. I prefer the Acoustasonic because it gives me a better general sound feel and it always, always always cut through the mix. And when you pushed the strings a bit harder, you get the feeling how it gets through. Like the Aftertouch feature of a keyboard :) I must accept though, that the Godin is more comfortable to play. It took me long to get use to the Acoustasonic neck. After trying and trying different sets in the acoustasonic I stuck to 2x sounds 5A and 4B for acoustics and 1B for electrics. I use it (still) through a BOSS M70 dry and effects just for specifically things an specific songs in the set. I'm changing it in the next weels and will running it through a BOSS ES8. The electric sound of the Godin is just not nice. Dont like it. When I played it live, I just mixed a bit of the electric into the acoustic, I like the way it sounds blended.. more body. BUT, I'll never sell the Godin. I'll keep it. :) Now after watching some of the reviews for the new acoustasonics, I kind of feel betrayed because the Stratocaster should have been released first :) The electric options that are there, are better than the ones in the Tele and I always felt, that those type of sounds should have been included in the Telecaster. Anyways. Hope my 2 cents helps anybody out there. And btw. I liked this review! Great Job astringsuk

Not a good comparison if you’re trying to choose between the two because he only used the piezo for the acoustic settings on the fender and not the simulations and putting the fender through the electric guitar amp completely ruins the sound because like he said the electric pickup already has amp sim on.

Hi… I have heard someone live play the Acoustasonic Tele. Then I have seen maybe 100 videos on the AT, AS, and the AJ. The Strat version does sound more electric than the AT and the AJ. So it all comes down to the AT and AJ. I leaned more to the Jazzmaster. The Tele I believe is good for more finger picking sounds. If you like country I would say go for the AT. The biggest sound variations came from the AJ. I own that one now. The acoustic sounds are very good. Especially for me in position 3 with a blend between A & B. The Tele and Strat versions came out first. Then came the Jazzmaster. It was an improvement on the other two for acoustic sounds. Fender did not put another guitar out just for body style.They say because of the larger area of wood on the Jazzmaster. It gets its different tone. I have not got into the humbucker much. But it sounded fine with a little chorus. I am not expecting great electric sounds. I will see. May get a pedal or two for the humbucker. But I do like the acoustic sound. I like the guitar but hear issues with the charging and and the input Jack connection. I returned my first one immediately for a quick replacement. The volume kept going dead when the cable was touched or moved. All things have been great since. I believe they make many of these Acoustasonic guitars. Maybe a little more than a few will have issues. Hopefully the one I have now will give me many good years of guitar playing.

As much as I hate the entire Acoustasonic concept, I have to say the Fender sounds far more like an actual acoustic guitar than the Godin. The Godin has much more of that annoying, insectoid piezo buzz to the sound that makes me want to burn it and pee on the ashes.

Godin ALL DAY LONG over the Fender. Fender is nothing but a mere child's toy. Godin makes professional instruments with professional musicians in mind. Fender is an afterthought.
