Fender bought Guild some years ago, then a few years back bought out Kaman Music (for $35 million!!)...which gave them the Ovation brand. This factory used to be home to Ovation/Adamas and Hamer. Fender sent most Ovation production overseas. They still produce Adamas and the occasional Custom Ovation in New Hartford. They also brought Guild into this building. The workers who produce Ovations are a highly-skilled crew who easily ramped up to build high-end Guilds. Now they're trying out these high-end Fender acoustics.

First acoustic a few years ago was a Fender. The CD-60S was a very nice beginner guitar. Replaced the awful fender strings and the plastic nut and saddle w Tusq and it was a very decent little guitar. Currently some of their PM series guitars are very nice. Obviously one wouldn't pay full price due to the lack of resale.

actually rosettes like the binding help protect the grain of the top. since an area of the top is cut out for the soundhole, the exposed end grain becomes very weak. it also with the expansion and contraction of the top.

Only one way to buy any guitar....Go to your local music shop.....tell them how much you want to spend...the type of music you want to play....Take a seat...put a bag on your head...Have them pass you guitars...when you play the one you like...give em the money.....pull the bag off your head....You might be surprised at what it does not say on the headstock.

Just bought a new 400 T bucket. It has plus and minuses ,banjo tuners not for me but it plays and sounds great !! I put some gold Grover tuning machines on it ( new style ) and a adhesive backed pick guard as I didn't want to beat that beautiful finish to death. Some gold string pegs in the bridge. I don't really care for the pin stripes on the headstock. I think they should've stayed with the older tuning machines on this model so, after spending another 100 bucks I now have a 500 dollar 400 T-bucket. mmmmmmm?

Fender does make a good beginners guitar but the guitar is you’re seeing in this video or constructive and built by the hands of ran Ferguson back when sent her own guild you can actually hear him talking in the video although they don’t show him because he actually worked for the guild part but he was in charge of all of it goes. Of guitars are phenomenal and if you don’t know who ran Ferguson is he was the mastermind at Gibson before that

Hamer was in Illinois . This is the old Ovation plant in Connecticut. Fender bought them a bit ago and moved all but some wood top Ovations like the Custom Legend and the Adamas lines production overseas. Hamer built Gibson influenced guitars. They built good guitars, but it's ludicrous to compare Hamer's guitars and influence to Gibson or Fender. There's a reason Hamer went broke and had to sell to Fender. Good guitars but not enough sales to stay in business.

The classic strat headstock kind of ruins the appeal on a lot of their acoustics, I like their 3x3 design I think it's amazing looking, but then I see an great body with a strat headstock and it just pisses me off. I used to be a really big fan of Fender, but seems like lately, when their employees are talking in an interview, they are just spouting off bullshit. They use big words and make it sound like there are no other companies making good stuff. I know they are plugging their own company, but the elitist attitude is crap and passe to me. That said, I bought an older Fender acoustic cheapy off craigslist a while back for 40 bucks. Sounds better than a Gibson Hummingbird that I've since got rid of.

This is why I don't get why these "big brand" guitars are still $$$$... More than half of the work is done by machines. Most of their workers are experts at what they do and have been with the company for years. So it's not like they loose a whole lot of money training new employees every year. Since they take wood in bulk, it cant be even close to the actual market value of the wood. So in essence, they are charging people $700 - $1000 for something that might only be worth $100 and the price is just for the brand name.

Yeah, and you'll plop down 1,500 on a guitar that won't be worth half that on the immediate used market, and possibly less in the future. Carvin are great but their guitars hold absolutely no secondary value. That's not even coming from a collector's standpoint; it's important to consider if you find yourself in a financial bind or just want to try something new at some point.
