For me a maple fretboard is what makes a Fender a Fender. I don’t like the narrow spaced dots and the transition logo on the 60’s strat. What I like about this series is that Fender has gone back to a poly primer underneath the nitro and stopped making them all nitro like the 2012-2017 American Vintage Series. A lot of people think that old Fenders were all-nitro but that’s not true. 50’s and 60’s strats would not be all-nitro. The bare wood was first dipped in Homoclad or sprayed with Fullerplast. On custom color finishes the color coats were often acrylic lacquer, with nitro clear top coats. Sometimes when they were in a rush they skipped the clear coat on custom colors, so some were made with no nitro at all.

I don't like the 60s logo either. I just like the sound and that vibe of been robustly crafted. It may doesn't look like a classic strat but it is a strat by its own right

don't know, rosewood on a strat = the best look/feel/sound for a strat, yes a FENDER one

I have a White Blonde '50s Original and I love it. The bass string is a bit closer to the edge of the board than I like, but the neck is fat and incredible and the pickups are FENDER bright and spanky. That guitar has more sound unamplified than any Fender I have ever played. Screams, when plugged in.

The 60's has a more mellow sound which I dig. Very straty sounding, which might sound funny to say but some 'new' strats don't sound like a Strat.

I’m a bit torn. I like the tone of the 50’s Strat better and prefer the spaghetti logo over that thick 60s logo. However I prefer rosewood fretboards and the color options of the 60’s Strat. Hmmm

@RichBischoff5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've always been a rosewood lover, but I have been playing a lot of maple necks lately. I tend to gravitate toward rosewood though. Maybe I just like the look of rosewood more... Maybe it gives the guitar a darker tone, I don't know honestly. Thanks for the question, I wish I had a good answer. I will say this most of my guitars have rosewood necks.

how does the playability and tone of the Fender American original 60s compare to your John Mayer PRS SILVER sky ?

I like the Silver Sky a lot more. Playability and tone are amazing.

@@RichBischoff Thanks Rich. Your comparison demos have been extremely helpful. If you ever get to buy a two rock amp to compare the john mayer tone with your Silver sky and Jm fender signature, please do. One more question, between silver sky and Fender Jm signature, which one do you like in terms of tone a playability. Does the jumbo frets in Fender help it feel better ?

Jason Shrestha They both felt really good. I didn't notice if the jumbo frets made it feel any better or not.

Have you seen any wear on these guitars with the nitro finish?
@RichBischoff5 жыл бұрын
I haven't.
@marcmistermarc5 жыл бұрын
This new series has a thicker and harder wearing nitro finish than the previous Pure Vintage range. Those were very accurate - but fragile. I think Fender felt “damned if they do and damned if they don’t”... they gave the super thin nitro finish that checked and chipped easily that people thought they wanted but they had a lot of warranty returns. They were getting damaged on show in stores as well so they discontinued it. I have a limited run Firemist Silver Jazzmaster in the pure vintage finish and it does chip easily but has only checked a little. That Firemist colour may be an acrylic formula with a nitro clear coat. Many people are not aware that some of the custom colours back In the day were acrylic with nitro clear coat as well...it depended what colour it was.
@giulioluzzardi76327 ай бұрын
Mine has begun to get worn. Little flakes are chipping off around neck pocket and where the body touches your arms ,a nice spider web microthin has sprouted on the upper horn of the body but that is 4 years of travelling and "Hot/cold" every day. The 60s version just gets better with age, I like the taller/ wider frets as they can be dressed several times before a re-frett is needed. If you get a plate to put on 5he bridge pickup it will give you a broader tone which is great for staccato playing and power chords. Love my olympic white 60s Strat through a 40watt 1x12" Black panel based deluxe reverb.

@@RichBischoff lol that’s what i ordered but not sure how I’ll feel about the pickups. If I’ll wanna swap them out for something to fit that Hendrix/frusciante sound. Do you think the stock Vintera pickups get close enough or would you have other recommendations to throw in?

@@jessesmith2906 I liked them, but a swap would be easy enough. Maybe some Texas specials with a humbucker in the bridge. Idk.
