You were saying you can not use your tone knob with active on. Would you say there is a significant difference with the Marcus Miller active tone set ups? I'm also interested in buying a ultra jazz bass. Thanks for your video. Do you think that I would be best of with just the USA Professional Jazz bass with out active mode?

I replaced the original Marcus Miller pre with a John East pre. Now I’ve put a John East pre into the ultra and the improvement is amazing. Yes I can now use the tone knob when in active mode. If you like playing in active mode (like me) just replace the preamp. That’s the one gripe a have with Fender basses is their preamps. The main differences between the Ultra and Marcus Miller basses are: the Ultra has a great neck but I can’t get the action quite as low as the Marcus. The Ultra is also a lot lighter which is awesome.

@@asherskerrett5979 Cheers mate thanks for the reply helped me heaps! Actually I also like low action so thanks for telling me that. About two weeks ago I sold my 1996 Candy apple red USA jazz bass only cause the I couldn't get the action low hence the buzz. I used to own a Ibanez 1993 Sound Gear I must say I am very impressed with Ibanez beautiful tones plus always pre amp plus excellent low action. Only thing is they make smaller scale basses. But now with this new info I'm gathering I'm thinking a new SG wouldn't be a bad idea or buy a new USA Jazz Pro and hope for the best. But still need to know why Fender are not interested in giving us lower action? Yes I'm also impressed with the Marcus Miller V7 nice and low action. Very comfortable bass.

I put a .25 shim from Stu Mack on my new Jazz and it’s helped me set the action really low once I got the neck relief right.

@@vitamenz I read a comment about the high action, especially on the higher frets. The reason for that is because if you use the "slap" technique when playing, there won't fret buzzing. I'm still learning bass, so I bought this guitar for similar reasons and because I'm hoping with enough practice, I can be able to play well and do more bass riffs and licks. I got mine last week and I especially like the feel of the neck.

A guitar that cost so much cannot allow itself to have those negatives, i had this bass so i know what you mean by those sticky saddles, crappy stock preamp, uneven frets and the gap in the input jack are ridiculous. i dont get it, how can Fender allow this? thats the reason why i sold my Fender ultra bass and bought MusicMan Stingray special bass instead, a much much better quality guitar with no need to change the preamp!!!!

I’ve changed my pre amp to a John East and my pickups to Lollar 70s. I’m much happier now. I also bought a MM BFR Stingray 4HH last year.

Music Man has much higher quality control than Fender. I have both.
