I’ve had a 2006 MIM active J Bass with the same controls as the new Ultra for several years. I think I paid $500 in 2010 for it. I just bought a new American Pro Series II J bass. I couldn’t wait to compare it to my Mexican bass. They sounded essentially the same. I know the new one is passive but still don’t know wether to be happy or sad. I was excited to buy a serious bass since I’ve never paid more than $500-600 for a bass and expected a big improvement in sound. I can return the new one to Fender. Haven’t decided yet. Trying to justify paying $1800 for a new bass that sounds the same as my old bass. I know, nice problem to have.

I just sold my Fender 19' Jazz 5 for an Ernie Ball and I'm never looking back. I've been rather disappointed by Fender's recent items. I personally feel that they lack the quality their competition provides. The case was not closing properly upon arrival and Fender had to send me a new one - within a month of playing, I had to replace the jack, and Fender didn't offer to fix it although I saw it as a factory defect - the 9v ejector on the back kept getting caught on something internally. The list goes on with other minor grievances and small annoyances, but I wouldn't have expected as many of them from a brand new, two thousand plus dollar bass.

@matthewd63064 жыл бұрын
I also have an elite P but recently got an Ultra Jazz Bass. Very similar but I prefer the bridge on the Ultra. Its a High Mass bridge while my Elite P has a cheapo vintage style Bridge. Although I like the string thru design. They changed the truss wheel because of alot of user complaints. I never had an issue and I like it but its not a big deal either way. I rarely adjust the truss rod. Maybe twice a year due to humidity.
