Well I broke down and got one of the bassbreaker 45's today.... F'ing wow!!! I have been playing for more than 45 years and I must say they got this one right. One thing I have been after is a tone that when I was much younger I had an old Plexi. When I played a Strat through it I could get this amazing Jimi Hendrix tone from his band of gyspy days. I now have that tone again and I will say this thing is a monster. Also this thing is way more than 45 watts but you can dial it down to low practice volumes and it has the same over all tone as it does when its cranked up some. Once you hit the point where the power tubes and speakers are getting pushed it really comes alive even more. For the price I couldn't have asked for anything more. Works amazingly well with my Strat, VOS les Paul and my Firebird and each has a great tone with this amp!!!

Would really love it if this amp came with reverb and an effects loop, but it’s not a deal breaker. I can even relate to the “haters” not connecting with the sound, I felt that way for quite a while as well. After persevering I started to work out what really makes this amp shine. Don’t be afraid to adjust the knobs, even shutting them down if necessary. It’s not a plug and play amp, it’s a bit finicky, but you can find the tone your looking for by working through it. I find it shines even better with P90’s or humbuckers, but it’s not terrible with single coils. It’s probably the most variable amp I’ve used and has a great drive when you dial it in as well.

I just picked one of these beasts yesterday. I am very happy with it so far! I didn't go all the way up in the store, because it was loud enough, but I did it a few hours ago, and what a tone! I think this amp is going to live at 1W when at home, it is just too loud on anything else for home use. But I was pleasantly surprised that even though it is very big and very loud, you could definitely use it at home volumes. I wouldn't buy it just for that, though, but at least you can!

I just built a '59 Bassman clone from scratch and, among many other mods I added to it, I added adjustable bias pots (one for each power tube). I've ran it with 6V6's, 5881's, KT66's, KT88's. All of them have has their own voicings. Throwing some EL34'S in it will be the next stage. Should give me this nice Bassbreaker tone.

It's about time Fender make a 12AX7/EL34 hard rock amp with Celestions. Sounds pretty good! Leo may have created the Bassman design back in the 50's, but Jim Marshall perfected it shortly thereafter and left Fender in the dust, as far as rock amps go. I'm an Orange guy, but would definitely give this a try at the shop.

I just got one for cheap on a sale, throw some greenbacks and is tone heaven, a combination between bluesbreaker and a plexi, not quite JTM45 or bassman, it’s have a more fast Sharp precise attack due to the solid state rectifier, and a tighter sound with silky mids as EL34 provides, sound way better than my Marshalls origins (when stock,now I modded them to plexi and jcm800 specs), while the stocks v types speakers are not bad, the greenies really make it shine it best, such a cool underrated amp!

Is this similar to the Dr Z Remedy amp which also has a high and low volume and jumpered channels internally?, but costs about $1900 for the head alone? I know they use "handpicked" resistors/capacitors, hand wound transformers, and pure filtered solder aged in oak barrels :) etc... but I think it is cool that Fender is offering this at a price that s a bit more in reach with the standard circuit board. I don't know why, but I've always gotten better OD sound out of a pedal in front of a blackface amp - vs. an OD channel built into an amp. Plus - I like knowing I can get back to my basic meat and potatoes clean tone which is wonderful on a blackface amp and is where I spend 85% of my time. Not to slam Dr. Z - thy build great equipment - but props to Fender for making this kind of tone available to the masses.

This whole line of Amps is great. YET, I still can't understand why the controls are on the top of the amp. WHY WHY WHY.. does Fender, Vox and a few others who do that with some of their amps. Put the amp on an amp stand that angles up and you can't get at the controls. This is most important with Amps where you have a lot of control knobs and you have to adjust the settings on the amp to take full advantage of the features. A 7- 18 Watt Amp with 3 controls I can understand doing that. But Amps like this and the Blues Deluxe amps. Makes no sense.

When You turn down the volume on the guitar, You are also loosing a lot of treble. That is not the best way to get a clean sound! Whatever amp You have or guitar, when You turn down the volume on the guitar You will loose a lot of treble. The treble is very important to most clean sounds - Fender clean or Mesa clean and the only solutions I know is to use a Morley volume pedal. Ok, You can use a "treble bleeder" on Your guitar, but it is not the best way anyway.When using EL 34 power tubes it will be even worse. An amp like the Bassbreaker 45 should have had the possibility to go from clean to "crunch/lead" by a step on a pedal. The Bassbreaker 45 is a very good amp, and I really like the sound of it is like a "Marshall type of amp", but it could be better.... Leif from Norway - guitardet or retardet, anyway I have played them all from the original JTM 45 to my "all time amp" Mesa Lonestar 10/50100watt, 2X12". Simply the best after 42 years of excpericence.
@moonkef8 жыл бұрын
+Leif Eriksen You are right but it does depend on the impedance of the amp and the pre amp circuit it's self. some amps retain the guitar's treble even without a capacitor (treble bleed mod) Generally the more a pre amp is pushed the more it will stay bright as you roll the tone down. I would imagine the strat in this demo (Elite?) probably has a treble bleed cap fitted.
@Siwieto19588 жыл бұрын
+moonkef Yes, it's correct if You push the pre amp it wil stay brighter as You roll the tone down. But in an amp like this which has one volume and the very nice output option it is the volume that "makes the sound" both in the pre amp and the power amp (of course togheter with the EQ). As a result of that if You put the volume to 8 on this type of amps they will be producing overdriven or saturated tones. Not clean ones. I really like the "cranked" Marshall type of sound, but if You crank the amp You will have the same tone whatsoever. In my opinion the best solution is to have two channels in an amp - one clean and one dirty. Especially in an amp with EL 34 power tubes
@moonkef8 жыл бұрын
The best solution is a treble bleed cap of the correct value then you are sorted no matter what amp you're playing into. But I know what you mean, if you want a huge clean sound with lots of headroom this isn't the amp.

Why in the hell are Master Volumes such a rarity on tube amps when the best preamp gain parameters aren't realized without it! A MV isn't just there to control output levels, it's there to give your preamp overdrive settings, even at high volumes. It's 3 components. And that's INCLUDING the duel pot. An EASY DIY mod. btw. Put the knob on the back of the amp, or even in a small metal box with a bracket if you want zero holes drilled in your amp chassis. A MV does NOT harm your amp, if anythng it lengthens the life of the output tubes and speaker. . Just need 5 unshielded wires. Keep the leads short to the box if you do that though. AN EL34 AMP WITHOUT A MASTER VOLUME IS SUB PAR! PIV MASTER VOLUME ARTICLE IN iirc NOV,1983 GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE. It's excellent,, you will be blown away by it's function. Like it should have been there all along! Not some near useless 1 watt switch, what a joke!

Man - why use MDF in these cabs, Fender? Sometimes you have to push back on marketing price points and add some more quality. The cab and speaker are the last mile of tone. Amp builders have to stop building cabs with paper mache like this! Spend the few extra bucks on regular ply (not even void-free) and charge the customer - they''ll pay for quality that is there. MDF is fine for a small practice amp, but MDF is heavy and has frumpy, muddy tonality at high volumes on stage - terrible. You did the work on the circuit Fender - now you send the great tones through an MDF cabinet? Ridiculous.

+BlueRIff63 The cabinets on these are ply and not MDF.

Yes it's birch ply. don't know if that's better than pine? But it's not MDF lol!

+rick heins Hi Rick - you might want to change the spec pages on your site which say cabinet material for this series is "7-Ply 3/4" Medium-Density Fibreboard".
