Great demo of the Bassbreaker combos, Johan...and some awesome playing! I own the 45 combo, which I played against the other two you showcase here before I purchased it. With the built in variable - wattage knob, I get the tone I like at home or any gig venue. IMHO, the Bassbreaker series are the best new amplifiers produced by Fender in many years. The bassbreaker 15 combo is an amazing amp. I just brought mine home today. Played around with my pedals a bit, and nailed a tone I've been hearing in my head for a while now, but unable to get with my current set up. This thing will do it all if you have the patience to dial in the tones your after. Also, she really comes alive when you pair it with another vintage 30 ext speaker. I also have a 210 ext cab with Fender/ Jenson speakers, and she sound great with that as well.
@MrMudEagle7 жыл бұрын
Update on my new amp. When you run this amp in the 7 watt setting and turn the volume up to 7-10 its righteous tone. Its a tone machine. Nice and compressed sound, plenty of sustain, nice clean, and she growls with pedals. Its too bad I just discovered this today I dunno why I didnt think of it at first....im a bone head....lol
@pyroman60007 жыл бұрын
Love mine! I found an awesome tone completely by accident, lol. I was looking for a creamy bluesy drive- at a volume that wouldn't get me evicted. Med gain setting, gain more than halfway, master 3/4, guitar volume rolled way off. Got a super chimey, compressed/almost dirty clean tone with all the clarity you could want, and very touch sensitive. It sounded massive, and had a ton of "body" to it. It would definitely flap trouser legs at a higher volume level, lol. (P-90 loaded SG)

Hi Johan. Thanks for all the comparisons. I picked up a Bassbreaker45, but wanted a bit more of a Fender sound. I pulled off the back to make it more open backed, and put a 12AT7 in place of one of the 12AX7 which smoothed the gain a bit and gave me a little headroom. The 45 is a departure for Fender, but with some mods, it could be very versatile. Stock, I think it's a "rock-machine." But, with a couple of mods could be a real blues monster as well.

@balderdashsir Жыл бұрын
Had the 15w head unit when they first came out. Loved it but it didn't give enough volume for my stupid loud band. Remembered seeing this demo years ago and decided to revist it since I'm in the market for a Marshall /Marshall inspired 212 combo. The 45 sounds best here, but honestly I think this is a case of trickery by hearing it on it's own. I really think the 18/30's raspier top end makes that thing the actual star in this lineup, and that little bit of top end fizz probably makes this thing cut through a mix fantastically. The 15 comes across as falling somewhere between the two, and when I had PA support it was great. I also feel like I should give props to that Celestion V Type. Everything I've heard through that speaker sounds really good. It doesn't really get much acknowledgement against the greenback & v30.
@RobCabreraCh2 жыл бұрын
I've had my Bassbreaker 45 for a couple of years now. It amazes me how much gain it has at the full 45 watts. In my opinion, the BB45 sounds much closer to a 1987X than to a JTM45. You made a video comparing the two, and they sounded very different. I've been wanting to change the speakers for G12H-30s, or G12M-25s. Maybe one of each? But I just haven't gotten the right opportunity yet. I also want to say that the Output knob, which is supposed to maintain the tone of the amp regardless of the setting does change the amount of gain that the amp produces. For instance, with the volumes at 10 o'clock, at the full 45W you get AC/DC or Zeppelin. It is that gainy that 10 o'clock gets you there easily. But at 1W same settings, the amp is closer to the edge of breakup. I wouldn't say clean, but not too crunchy either. At 45W and volumes at 2/3rds of the way up, the BB45 sounds pretty much as a typical JMP cranked. Turning it up higher will make it go very fizzy and fuzzy, which is awesome for leads or lingering power chords, but not great for much else. I think that with the right pedals and speakers, you could totally get 80s metal from it. I have tried, and gotten close, but the amp is so noisy at that point that it isn't worth it. As I said, the BB45 is very gainy!
@RickMcCargar8 жыл бұрын
Wow, loved the 45! The other two had some sort of weird muffled sound to me. I've watched a lot of videos on these and hadn't seen one that made me have interest, but after this, the 45 seems like a steal at that price. Thanks Johan!

Would be interesting to hear the Bassbreaker 15 vs a Vox AC15, but there would be another difference...G12M Greenback Speaker in the Vox, so it wouldn't be apples to apples. Maybe the Bassbreaker could benefit from a different speaker.

I keep it on the medium gain setting using my HD500X into the FX loop for my effects. The nice thing about the 15 is that they offer ot with a wide variety of speakers. You get the standard one with celestion v type and they offer some with g12h30 anniversary some with green backs and some with creamback 65. I tried them all and the creamback 65 version was my favorite. I was going to buy the creamback version but ended up returning it becuase it was a excessively noisy . In am hoping to find another one without so much noise. The one I tried was very hussy with alot of hum and had that motorboating sound coming from the back I was very disappointed because the SNP sounded so great . Many complain about the darker sound they have but I thought it was a nice alternative to my brighter marshall dsl 5 dal 40 and mini jubilee
@addictedtogear8 жыл бұрын
The 45 sounded best but I bet it was super loud. The 15/30 was not bad but had too much mids in it. I'm pretty sure if you upgrade the speakers in each of these they will all sound killer. For some reason fender likes to put cheap speakers in their amps. I changed the cabinet in my blues Junior to 2-12 pine box with WGS speakers and now it rocks!

It doesn't need to be turned up to sound great at all, especially with the output knob. I play small dive bars with mine set between 15-18 watts and it sounds killer. Use the OD pedal of your choice if you want a little extra kick, it takes any pedal you throw at it amazingly well.

The 15 looks like a blues Jr. Anyone know the difference between this one and a Blues Jr?I'm wondering what kind of tubes and schematic this one has. Nice demo as always Johan.
@JohanSegeborn6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I wonder about that too. Maybe we can compare them here at the channel
@thegolfnut8126 жыл бұрын
There are a few comparisons out there but for me it is looking at the schematic differences and the layout. Couple of years ago I looked into the differences between the fender bassman and the Marshall to better understand what was done. I think there are a couple of good articles and even a book on the subject. If you do a comparison, see if you can get your hands on a schematic of the 15.

I've heard that the Bassbreaker series has a problem with rattling, loose tubes and/or noisy reverb.. Anyone else notice? Lots of returns at Thomann.

Ah, I didn't know that. Cheers

Returned 2 of the 15 heads when they first came out because of the effects loop hum . Bought s third one a few years later with the so called fix . Still hummed . I kept the amp because it just sounds so good and is so versatile . I just go old school ,straight into the instrument jack like you would do on a vintage bassman or marshall . Killer amp

Johan you make the 15 sound like my old Laney Supergroup.

Hi Johan. First of all, thanks for your videos. I follow them, always cool and interesting. I mostly liked the 45 version. In your opinion by playing it, what is the amplifier that has the closest sound? Super Lead or jcm800 or something else? I have to try it, sounds really good! Cheers!

+JohnnyLuMaz Thanks Johnny, glad to hear it. It's closer to the Super lead and even closer to a Superbass. Cheers!

Great Demo! I am very undecided, i don't know what amp should i get: - Fender Bassbreaker 15 - Fender Blues Jr III - VOX AC15 what do you suggest me? i have a std fender Tele. thank you
@JohanSegeborn7 жыл бұрын
+Pasquale Schioppa Thanks! Those are three great amps, the Bassbreaker 15 has the most gain of these three, the Vox has the warmest tone and the Jr has the most percussive tone, if I remeber correctly. Cheers
@pakigraw7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Johan, i am considering the AC15 the C1X one, with the Alnico speaker, maybe in the future with a tube upgrade it will be very good, the stock ones are from china. What tubes do you recommend? thanks
@mattdayne25857 жыл бұрын
I owned both the blues jr and Vox AC15C1 at the same time and both are great amps in their own right. The Fender blues jr has that nice Fender clean sound but the tweed one has a much brighter treble, high-mids sound to it, which can be good for country or blues but wasn't my taste. The AC15C1 is a great amp, just a beautiful nice British Vox chime sound to it of old school days. Regret selling this one. The Fender Bassbreaker I've only noodled around with in stores, it's a great tube gain amp. Clean is okay, doesn't seem to have the typical fender clean I'm used too. But then again my time was limited with it only being at the store. All depends on your style of playing, what tone you're looking for and if you use pedals.
@pakigraw7 жыл бұрын
thank you for your feedback, there are some time i play clean, and other times i play with more gain, if i had the money i would pick them both, but i can't. I love the clean Fender sound with the Blues Jr, but at the same time i love the VOX for the rest. But, the VOX Clean Sound is very good too, is different from Fender, but it's not bad. I have to find the right compromise because i have the budget only for 1 amp. I tested the AC15 with GreenBack and Alnico speaker, the blue one is brighter and cleaner, the greenback one is gainy. So i was considering to get the AC15 with Alnico speaker, i think it's a good compromise for both clean and gain sound.

Buyers beware! I recently returned my Bassbreaker 15 because the model 15 is plagued by defects. Sorry to report that the Bassbreaker 15--an awesome sounding amp that I regrettably returned on Aug. 22, 2018, after only a few weeks--has two manufacturing defects. (1) In the mute setting, some BB-15's will push a 60 cycle hum and/or hiss and pop. Mine had a 60 cycle hum in the Mute setting. Another BB-15 at the Guitar Center store on the sales floor was hissing and popping in the Mute setting. (2) Some online forums also report a recall/repair on the BB-15's noisy effects loop circuit. Such a disappointment that such a potentially great amp is doomed by defective components, low manufacturing standards, and wrecklessly poor design.

I just bought the 45 but in this demos to me it sounds like the worst one... no bell like tones at all... very dark... is that the case? Thinking of exchaging it for the 18/30 ... althought I need a lot of clean headroom

Great video and excellent creative playing. I'm looking for a nice thick tube sound at low volume. Which of these 3 amps will offer that? It sounds to me that the 45 watt amp offers the sound I'm wanting, though I don't want to go deaf either. Is it really loud? Can the small watt amps offer the same thick crunch sound at relatively low volume? Thank you.
@JohanSegeborn7 жыл бұрын
+graphicartdude Thanks! :-) The 45 comes closest to the former breakup of 70s to current marshalls, but if you want a vintage sounding amp, go for the 007, that sound really good also at lower volumes, check it out here kzbin.info/www/bejne/enSpXnevgLV4idE

if those settings were the same you recorded with, it looks like you might have run the 45 around 10 watts. :) sounded great though. I wasn't as big a fan of the 18/30, I'm curious which side you ran through? great video, thanks
@JohanSegeborn8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Hyrkas Thanks Jeremy, Thats perceptive of you! :-) yeah I managed to change the attenuator knob before I took the photo but since it was slightly louder than the 18/30, which I ran at 30W, so it must've been a bit higher up, but I'm not 100% sure since I screwed up the documentation. Cheers Johan
@jeremyhyrkas95418 жыл бұрын
No worries! I've got the 45 and sometime I'll run it pretty low around 10 watts or so. It's a very efficient amp with two speakers, so it's still very loud
@JohanSegeborn8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Hyrkas How would you say that the sound changes from 1w to 10w to 30w to 45w? Does it differ much in high end?
@jeremyhyrkas95418 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you definitively unfortunately. :( My reason for varying the wattage is to get the amount of break up I want at the right volume. So at home, it'll be 1-5 watts, practice around 10-15 watts, live I'll bump it up to 25-ish. I run it so it's just starting to break up and then I use pedals to push it over the edge. Not a very scientific way to hear the sonic differences. If you made a video to test that out though, I'd definitely watch. ;)

I like the idea of those mini heads that are popping up on the market and smaller tube amps but this concludes my earlier thoughts that when they use different tubes (mostly el-84) it's already a different amp and sounds like that compared to el-34 or 6L6 or whatever. I guess there's no cutting corners.

What do you think about a 45 watt head with a Marshall 2x12 (because that's what I have) with celestions G12T75's in it? Or would it be even better to just buy the 18/30 since it's even less money than the 45 head?
@JohanSegeborn8 жыл бұрын
+JKGuitar100 I think both are great but different sounding alternatives. The G12T75 is very scooped but you only know if it works with the 45 by trying it. Cheers

The 45 for the win! The least fuzzy tone with a beautifully balanced sound. The 15 sounds thin and the 18/30 a bit too nasally. He probably used the 18 watt side which is too mid focused to my taste. I have the 45 myself and you can get everything from a pristine clean to brownface break-up over plexi tones by changing eq and attenuator settings. Just a wonderful amp!
@JohanSegeborn8 жыл бұрын
+dejongeblondegod Yeah, it surely came out on top here. I did use the 30W mode on the 18/30 here though. Cheers Johan

Id pick the 18\30 due to the presence Of a tone knob. But for two reasons. One all I have is a tele ,for now at least, and I Think Les pauls sound Best with tube amps cranked. With the tone knob I can Get a dirty tone without blowing Up my ear drums or having the police knocking On my doorstep. It may sound Muddy to some but hey maybe you could Find a way like johan did here

@JohanSegeborn8 жыл бұрын
+ArielsSmartyPants It depends on the drummer ;-)
@BenBollinger8 жыл бұрын
ArielsSmartyPants you could always mic it.
@kroustyman8 жыл бұрын
Any 15 tube amp is 100% suitable for gig. And I personally recommend it over a 100W/120W nonsense because you can play at a more "nominal" volume. I've seen so many full-stuff guitarists with epic 100W back-destroyers, that could only play at vol ~2 max at gigs, and it's a shame... Spare some cash and buy yourself a nice little tube amp.
@ArielsSmartyPants8 жыл бұрын
Well it was Danish Pete and Rob Chapman that said it. I doubt they'd lie. I have a lot of nice little tube amps and no, a champ isn't loud enough to gig with. I'm not recommending a 100w amplifier either, but I want to hear it over the drummer ;)

Anyone know how to get a clean sound out of a Fender Bassbreaker 15? I wouldn't have thought Fender would sell a new amp, without a clean channel.
@Onetinsoldier4 жыл бұрын
A year late, but I get a nice clean tone by cranking the master volume and use the gain knob on a lower setting
@JF-em6hr4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I do that, and now I got a MXR equalizer, turn down the bass. It seems to help.
@Onetinsoldier4 жыл бұрын
@@JF-em6hr nice! EQ is a good way to voice the amp. Another tip is to use crank master on the low gain channel, crank the bass and treble knob, turn the mid knob to zero. Use the bright switch for more chime
