Fender Champion 600 a First Look Part 1

In this video we look at a Fender Champion 600 reissue. PC board inside which we are going to remove and then add a turret board and maybe change the grill cloth.

I have that amp, bought it years ago at guitar center. It’s a great little amp and sounds amazing. If you ever get a chance to get one I’d suggest doing so. Not sure what they go for these days if you can find one but I think I paid 99 bucks for it new. I’ll never get rid of mine, that ones a keeper, it’s an excellent low volume practice amp with beautiful clean tones.

The speaker has definitely been added. Replacing the cloth with a more open weave makes a nice difference too.

The guy that gave it me added the speaker and grill cloth. He started to mod it but got out of his depth with it. That was back in 2012. He kept it in his loft for 10 years. Thanks for watching and take care.

@@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher The grill cloth that's on there is the standard one it comes with. I replaced mine with some nice Oxblood. Looks really good And yeah I agree: silver grill cloth would look completely out of place on this one. Tonewise, I didn't hear much difference. A lot of people say the original cloth sounds muffled and dull. I think it's just a placebo effect because it LOOKS thick. Swapping grill cloth didn't make any audible difference to me however. Swapping the tubes and speaker DID! I've got the same Jensen in there. After a tube and speaker swap, it's a great little practice amp, perhaps even the best I had.

@@bakkels. Me too, I have two of these excellent little amps. Both have different 50s/60s type mods, and standby switches added. Love them both. So glad I managed to get them when they were about. Rarely seen now.

good for turning into a point-to-point amp. the 6 inch speaker is a fail though.

Yes out with PC board. I put a turret board in this one in part two. It was a bit tricky and hard to get the wires tidy due to everything being underneath the board. Point to point is the way to go on these. Thanks for watching and take care.

Is there any way to put reverb into one of these and where are you based in case I wanted to mod mine?
