Clones of these are so easy to build, it's only a handful of parts and it will cost you probably 10% of what the real ones sell for. I love mine and I play it every day. Awesome amp and video!

Wow, the clean sound is killer. Despite having a drummer brother and a late 60's Park 75 I'm a low volume guy (except when I'm not). My main instrument is unplugged electric guitar 🤔. Loving your channel. You are the Jens Larsen of amp teching 🤙. Masses of great info given freely. Thanks a lot.

Thank you sir for a most informative day. As Ive commented before,I'm in awe of your technical skills,I am well versed in donkey work ,fitter,grave digging and floor sanding,but electronic/ amp repair,apart from speaker swapping, scares the **** out of me

I have a mystery buzz in an old Supro Chicago 51 combo Speaker has a little hole in it and buzz continues at louder volumes so thinking it's the little tear and not a chassis issue It's an old field coil speaker Someone stripped the Tweed off of it and the tounge and groove construction is very cool

Can't get Webbers in the UK for some reason, so I have found the Jensen (alnico) P8R to hit the sweet spot in most champ scenarios. Loads of bottom end and a nice sweet sparkly clean. My only criticism is that the treble can be rather strident on a new'ish speaker with the default bypass cap values. I find I prefer 10uf on the cathode and a 22uf on the screen filter to stiffen things up a bit. Of them all the 5F2A was the one I built and used the most (slightly bigger cabinet makes all the difference with an 8" speaker) but I always ended up disconnecting the bright cap which makes it more or less a choke-less 5E2. 🤷♀

Oh hey on a past video you mentioned you know some good amp technicians in Dallas/Ft Worth ? I got a 68 reissue princeton reverb I'm absolutely in love with, It'd be nice to increase the headroom a little bit if possible but more importantly I would want work done to make sure it'll last me a long time, or to know somebody in case anything goes wrong.

The Sylvania tube was obviously military JAN-spec (Joint Army-Navy) and in most cases those would have been specially built, and/or tested & selected, to be rugged and resistant to vibration, and therefore less likely to be microphonic.

No wonder this amplifier has so much desire for players and collectors. I love simple and it sounds much better than I expected. Awesome, channel. My favorite. I like what you do, how you do it and I like the No B.S.

Some 8” speakers are amazing! The stock speaker in a Vox Pathfinder 15/15R amplifier has an amazing amount of bass! Although it’s an oversized cabinet for an 8” speaker. But it’s open back, theoretically if a cabinet is open back - it’s size should have little to no effect on low end tuning, but then again what do I know?
@stevem.18532 жыл бұрын
I've used it as a practice amp for guitar and bass! I think the larger the back panel, even if it's not a closed cabinet, does help

@@PsionicAudio that’s what my gut tells me, I am trying to defer to the experts and their claims. Maybe one day I will get some test equipment and figure it out

If you have small tear in a speaker you can patch it with liquid electrical tape. If it's a good speaker and it's not handling 100 watts it just needs to not buzz.
@justovision2 жыл бұрын
To continue to recommend the MP-5 it has an 8 ohm output transformer and an external speaker jack. You can get the small cab stuff or drive a big cab. For $100.

I love the functionality. Don't like the look. I may try the locking Gotohs (sadly the ones with the thumbwheel as their better looking locking ones don't work with the conversion bushing flange size).
@jacksheldonwilkes47282 жыл бұрын
Do you recommend the $1,200 57' champ reissue? I want something like that, that is low wattage and simple and well made. But I don't really don't want to spend more than $1500 or $2,000 tops.

Cram several wooden matchsticks in the holes with Elmer’s. Best way to make a hole smaller.
@PsionicAudio2 жыл бұрын
One of the "holes" has no side wood remaining. Thinking it's epoxy putty time for that one. But yeah, I have a thing of wooden toothpicks and Titebond handy for almost daily use.

Frank Zappa used to record his guitar through a Pignose amp, I suspect because the size of the amp got rid of any extraneous frequencies and concentrated on the guitar tone. A good mic would be more useful in this case.
@Splattle1012 жыл бұрын
Late to the party, but if the wood of the cab is too rotten for the screw, a better fix would be to drill the hole until the rotten wood is gone, and then glue in a dowel.
@PsionicAudio2 жыл бұрын
It's not rotten. But enough pine was missing on one side that I turned it over to my guitar tech friend who will be putting in dowels.

You are going to use a power tube and then return it? Not goos sir, that's not good for the next customer. Do they have a policy that allows tube rolling and then returns? If so, I won't do anymore business with them.
@PsionicAudio2 жыл бұрын
They won't sell it to someone else. It's a reject. It happens.
