They're pretty good, right? Maybe a bit fatter and blooming in the mids, and not quite as sharp and ringing with the upper harmonics.IMO, the main solid quality of any humbucker is when they are percussive in attack; a little too much output, a little too hot, and they lose that quality. Almost never use humbuckers, but/so I'm excited to see these back a viable option.

I hear both Fender sets as slightly brighter than the Creamery. The vintage seems a touch fuller without losing any clarity than the modern - maybe some more girth in the lower mids? I’d vote vintage, modern, Creamery, but no bad pickups here clearly.

@@MichaelTerry48 The bridge system makes a very noticeable difference. With a Strat the strings are suspended against a block of metal being kept in place by a set of springs. Thanks for the great comparison and sorry for the long reply! An FYI for those considering buying vintage PUPs on Reverb: I have an all original 78 deluxe and a 73 Custom that some previous owner had put an old Duncan in the bridge and a super distortion in the neck. Played a bunch of vintage Fender, Nash, and partscaster guitars while deciding which pickup to put in the neck and noticed that the WRHBs varied as much if not more than old PAFs. Decided on a Regal because I figured at least I knew what I was getting. Sounds fine, as does the Creamery version. In 2021 I'd actually go with the Vintera which are half the price of the CuNiFe and boutique, and sound very similar to both (see the many shootouts on KZbin). Lord Fuzzman's originals sound great but your mileage WILL vary.

Good comparison, especially the consistent pots across all. It would be interesting to hear the Fender conventional-HB "WRHB" reissues too. There has been some recent evidence that while those often come with 250k pots (!), when you match pot values to those common for CuNiFe WRHBs (1meg or 500k), the sonic differences are less than expected.

I bought a new 1976 Tele Deluxe back in the day and think it is great. It was not loved by particularly the "purists" back then. Over time it has become more appreciated. My ear lends to the vintage but like a lot of pups there are even variations between them. The Creamery sounded closer and despite the moderns often getting derided over the years they were not bad sounding in any way, just not quite the same tone as the other 2. Over the years as I came upon info on the originals I read that the CuNiFe needs to be Re-magnetized to bring back to the like new specs. Any info concerning that idea? Lollar makes some sweet ones as well..the regal or some such............... P.S. I like the Vintage Distortion the best here. I have been advised that I am a bit distorted myself. Cheers!

A strat with a tremolo (and springs), a tele, and a jazzmaster? Apples, oranges, and grapefruits. Way too many variables here to attribute everything to the pickups. But a good effort. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my old Peavey Bandit - what an under-rated solid state amp. Old Bandits kick ass.

Yeah all very slight variables I do agree. Best I could do at the time though. This was the first vid of Fenders new pick ups so wanted to get something out there pronto. If you see one of my other videos I did get another tele with modern CuNiFe pick ups. It actually sounded identical to the strat side by side with the same pick ups but I didn’t bother doing another comparison video. I have 3 x bandits plus a load of other amps.. always go back to the bandit though. 👌 Thanks for watching.

This is really great work but the JM sounds a lot diff than the other two guitars - all those ringing harmonics. You could argue the strat and Tele are pretty different sounding too, given the pickup placement / positions in context of the overall scale. Last, are pot values the same across all guitars?

So-maybe a dumb question: I got one of the new 70’s Custom Teles with the Lover CuNiFe humbuckers; and it’s surprisingly hot. All the setting my tech could do still didn’t reduce the hum-which is (also surprisingly) a lot louder than the bridge pickup; and a lot louder than both SC pickups on my Tele Special Edition. Same amp; same cable run, same board, same everything. The tech looked at the solder joints and everything, but didn’t know what the deal was. Any thoughts? And, what might you replace it with if you mainly played generally clean, though with moderate overdrive and/or chorus effects sometimes.

Well Fuzzman, I'd say that there's pretty much no doubt the originals were clearly the best. And that sucks 'cause my main guitar through the 1980's was the tele deluxe... (my second was a 58 strat...) and I basically played it to death. Now had I known that the CuNiFe wide range humbuckers would become unavailable, I'da kept the pick ups. But... I was playin' punk rock, doin' punk rock van tours, drinkin too much and doing too much.... well... you know. What I wasn't doing was thinking about later. They're all great. Where I thought the moderns fell off was the middle setting distortion. In the other sections it was a little warmer and less harsh, and I was anticipating how that would sound with distortion. The Creamery and Vintage sounded like I expected -- sounded great but my ears would get sore from too much of that. The moderns didn't have the harsh edge, but IMO didn't have the girth either.
