Really nice. Yes pls, more comparisons. What are your facourite JM pickups overall? And of the currently available Fender/Squier JMs, which is your favourite? I know you liked the Vintera ii, but is it the one you'd buy?
@JasonTMays Жыл бұрын
BET!!! I'll definitely get on it with more comparisons. I have my first one in mind and It's going to be awesome. But to answer your questions, My favorite overall Jazzmaster pickups? That's a tough one...I would probably say it's between the set of EP customs I have in my AmPro2...and the other one I can't say much about just yet. But they sound GOOD!!!! As far as favorite JM's. I really am partial to the Vintera II I think they're the best bang for the buck. However, In fenders current production, I'd say the 40th anniversary SQJM Vintage Edition is my favorite Squier, my favorite MIM is the Vintera II, My favorite MIA is the AmProII and my favorite MIJ is the FSR Traditionals.
@Kulturmatt Жыл бұрын
@@JasonTMays Thanks Jason. I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer. And can't wait to see the secret pickups on a future video. I recently scored the 40th anniversary SQJM Vintage by chance. I was selling an FSR SQJM and a guy on a chat group msgd me and asked if we could do a straight swap for his vintage. Hell yeah. I just scored a J mascis signature JM (collecting today) for a song. and I'm looking at the MIJs and Vinteras. But I'm also tempted by the Yamaha RevStars (I played one recently and the neck is so good) or the Johnny Marr Jag. But I can get 2-3 other guitars for the price of a Johnny Marr so I'm kinda torn.
@JasonTMays Жыл бұрын
@@Kulturmatt Dude! No problem! I'm glad I can answer and I love talking Jazzmasters so I'm just glad anyone appreciates what I have to say. That seems like a good trade! The Johnny Marr is an awesome Jaguar! and I LOVE my MIJ! It's easily one of the best guitars I own. I still say the Vintera II is amazing and I think it's definitely worth the money. But the Marr definitely would give you a different sound.

Wide range pickups in a jazzmaster sound amazing but they also tend to make it sound less like a jazzmaster, which is why I'm very stuck between keeping my Lollar '58 set or getting Novak JM-WR pickups and replacing the rc switch with a coil tap. Would love to see a shootout between more typical jm single coils and any set of wide range pickups you have. Really hard to tell what would work for my tastes when most vintage voiced pickup reviews are, understandably, generic blues noodling, but this video was absolutely perfect.
@JasonTMays Жыл бұрын
I think that's the appeal of WR pickups. It's their sound. But between Lollar and Novak you've got some good choices! I'm always gonna advocate for Novaks! But, I've got a ton more JM pickups. Pretty much all of my JM's have a different set of pickups between EP custom, Lollar and Novak's. But, I'll definitely make more JM pickup comparison videos.
@lilnutty6821Ай бұрын
How much of the jm tone does it lose when you use widerange pu in the bridge? Currently have lollars but I'm thinking of putting a lollar regal in the bridge. Pretty much the exact same boat as you

Thank you! That means a lot! I’m just glad folks enjoy what I do. And funny enough, I have! I had it in my American vintage 2 for a little bit and I loved it. 10/10 would recommend if you want the jazzmaster to have a bit of that tele twang.

Not sure if it's the narrower coil profile, the plastic covers, or the specific guitar (likely a combination of all three) but these seem to have a slightly punchier, more focused tone than the full-size CuNiFes. Which suits the Jazzmaster quite a bit. Though personally I'd sneak a couple push-pulls in for coil-splitting, see how Jag you can get with it.
@JasonTMays Жыл бұрын
I AGREE!!!! These are by far the best sounding jazzmaster pickups fenders released. But, the push pull is actually a pretty cool idea! Maybe a future mod on a different guitar. 🤔

Personally, I'd put the Cunife in a Tele without question, but they don't work well in a JM.The EQ combined with the natural resonance and sustain are squarely working against each other. I prefer even inexpensive Squier stock designs, or the P90 ish models in the Mascis model.It's great to have options, -which is why you should get a cheap Gretsch with stock Filtertrons. Or a Tele Deluxe with Cunife.
@JasonTMaysАй бұрын
I politely disagree, I think it gives the Jazzmaster that Sonic Youth type of sound in a certain way. Admittedly, I do prefer the CuNiFe pickups in my Starcaster and think they sound the best there.

I have a Japanese HH JM with the reissue full size cunife humbuckers. Do you think there is much of a difference?
@JasonTMays Жыл бұрын
Possibly, I haven't seen what the pickups look like outside of that model and I know for awhile Fender has had a history of using traditional hum buckers in WRHB casing. So, I'd have to do some digging.
