First Q - Did you have a .1 uF cap on the tone pot and 1 meg pots? That’s what’s recommended, and what I’m looking to hear for comparison. If you chose to run 500k pots, then you have too much plunk. When I do a JM, there will be no rhythm circuit, I want sparkle not ice pick with some girth. Maybe just the $300 Cunife JM pups is the delio.

I've been interested in trying something different in my Jazzmaster. Black Mass and Stonewall make version of these that are a good bit cheaper than the Fender CuniFe WR humbuckers. Your demo at the end -- I liked the clean tones a lot, drive tones were a bit highendy, but, 4 bills is a bit too steep.
@ryfipassword21 күн бұрын
Try looking into the CuniFe pickups from Madlove Pickups. Cheaper and they have the ability to coil split straight out of the box

Just saved me $400. Thanks! I like my Jazzmaster the way it is, but I love my 70s Tele Thinline pickups, so I was considering it. Maybe finding some Squire 70s Thinline pickups is a good budget option. That and a pickguard that can hold them. Nice video! Do more.

The JMJ is awesome, I just put a roller bridge it’s amazing. The beefy neck and frets make it easier to play for my hands and stock pickups are perfect. Just enough gain for most Rock and clean enough for most surf music.

First of all, where did you get that tremolo arm ? I’m thinking of getting only the bridge pickup for my vintera 60s modified since it’s bridge pickup is to shrill / trebly. I like the first thing you played there Btw im not sure anything makes a boss ds-1 sound good. Especially not with a fender

Thanks for a sincere review! Usually people can't be honest about something they've spent big money on. I feel like I might also agree with you because humbuckers aren't usually my type of sound (even those pick ups claimed to be sparkly and single coil like). It seems back in the day smart guys figured it out perfectly from the start - a P-90! :)

Ha… I bought two Wilkinson humbuckers for $39. Stock in my 2011 Vintage Modified Special may be better and I’m leaving it up to my luthier. Your demo sounds good and clean. All distortion any guitar, any pickup, amp, pedal box, sounds great to me the proof is in the clean channel.

If you have any of the Ama price checking extensions/tools/etc, you can see that the cobalt chrome/cunife JM set went on sale for $125 or $130 (for the set) a couple months ago. I was restoring an old ‘00 CIJ from my past, hadn’t been playing for a while and just noticed they were the cheapest fender JM pups, and were normally $300, so I bought em, and I like em a lot

So they are like split single coil, like a P bass or Z coil, but for JM? Not actual HBs like the thinline tele?
@thekipinator76604 ай бұрын
@@simonsmith2642 they are actual humbuckers, just have an odd appearance. When you take the covers off, they just look like normal PAF style humbuckers.
@jezmez684 ай бұрын
Are those actually humbuckers or are they Jazzmaster style pickups with CuNiFe magnets? Because they make Strat and Tele pickups with CuNiFes as well. The demo I've heard from the Strat pickups are ice-picky (ultra bright). I think these sound kind of good. Would be cool if you could combine the audio/video from this demo and do it with the demo of the stock pickups. Funny, my desktop speaker these sounded bright and tinny. Through my 1990s speakers/subwoofer they sound sort of muddy!

I think I agree with your assessment. The cleans sounded nice but, man those dirt tones just didn’t do it. And yes I do like some shoegaze. It just felt like some of the “meat” was missing in the distorted sound. Like lots of texture but, with very little body. I too have a JMJM and those stock pickups are fantastic! These sound expensive, like I can hear the clarity and presence over cheaper pickups but, I don’t think they’re what I’d be interested in. Great video!

It's not the right pickup for a JM. To my ears,- and I've heard differing takes, - the JM is piano like in it's resonance, sustain, and attack, and as noted ,the broader eq and scooped mids don't work for the design's actual strengths.For the exact same reason, they work well in Tele's. Originally, Firebirds utilized a P90 ish design in a mini humbucker cover; they make that guitar unique and work well, but unlike Cunife in a JM , Alnico 2 mini humbuckers actually are a viable alternative. I've found that Leo usually got it optimally right the first time.
@voidburner82713 ай бұрын
You can find these on reverb for 200-250 for a set. No one should be swapping their stock pickups hnless youre using a heavy amount of fuzz/overdrive. If ur not using a tube amp dont even bother getting them
