LOVELY! I wanna point out that Squire put out a Tele almost exactly like this about 7 years or so ago,and a mate of mine brought one into my studio and he got sounds out of it the really impressed EVERYONE. And he’s an Ibanez hard rocker guy when he’s not playing Surf… but his new Squire Butterscotch Vintage Tele became his go-to instrument for everything. I still fantasize about buying it off of him so that my studio always has it available.

Seems like a great Telecaster. Loved the American Vintage series before they remade the whole range and replaced it with the American Original series. They have a bunch of options from vintage inspired Classic Vibe Squiers and Vinteras to modern standard and modern options, I think it's important that you have the option of going vintage spec outside of the Custom Shop. Oh.. and Vintage II Electric Boogaloo.

You're beautiful Andy ! You are ! Nice review mate and I look forward to the follow up comparisons you have planned. Among others I have a Pro II Telecaster and love the way it feels to play but might be interested in changing the pick ups at some point in the future so if you are ever in a position to pull a few options together for comparison I'd be interested to hear. (I'm leaning towards the vintage 52 or the twisted tele, maybe a combination, any thoughts ? )

Nobody buys a vintage spec tele to play a fuzz pedal for an entire set, that’s what Ibanez does. If you need a guitar to play every genre of music the vintage spec is the ticket. The magic is clean and slightly overdriven on this guitar

Have you ever tried rolling rolling a finger board/frets? You can make a cheap guitar play great by leveling the frets considerably (more than usual) then crowning/polishing/rolling them. It's very easy especially if you don't care about the finish on the neck. Most of it can be done with a sanding sponge. I do it to all of my guitars and I haven't found one production guitar, even custom shop's, that feel or play better. The only thing that comes close is a vintage guitar that has been played a lot then the frets reworked.

Nice to see a comparison of a $4000 dollar custom shop guitar , along side a $2000 dollar guitar, as as well as poor mans Harley Benton . I my self will most likely never be good enough a player to justify the expense. I will continue practice with what I can afford until I feel I am good enough. even I never reach skill level of Santana or Stevie Ran Vaughn , its all good as long as as I still hold a guitar and make music. It is a beautiful guitar, and it is an awesome guitar to play. I also tested it with an MXR M305 Tremolo pedal, and it was great. However, I only play guitar as a hobby, and I am not a gigging or jamming guitarist. It costs AU$4,100 normally at my local guitar store, so I won't be in a position to buy one anytime soon, nor can I justify making that kind of investment at the moment. A Squier Telecaster for AU$445 is in my range for now. For anyone who can spend the money on a 1951 Fender Telecaster, it will be a joy to play and something to cherish.

1. Bonus points for getting The Pixies stuck in everyone's head. Because it is an amazing song. 2. While American Fender's are amazing, I feel like they are in the same boat as Gibson and about $500 over priced. You can get a $700 guitar from another brand that will play better and have higher specs. I understand the brand is worth $$$, but not the cost of a second guitar premium.

For some reason I always associate vintage guitars with thin, brittle sound. I felt like a pro II tele was better for me due to it's modern features and warm sound. But, from what I can tell this guitar actually sounds warm for a tele? can anyone confirm? I might send back my pro II and get this even though the gloss neck is sticky. I already have a fantastic ltd player series which is basically the mexican version of a pro II so the vintage II might be more of a difference.
