I don’t play bass…. I just keep this video saved and come back to it whenever I’m having a rough day. Pure groovy joy

Smoothest technique I've ever seen. You made it look so effortless.

That sounds SO much like Jaco!

Justin Ellison Try playing closer to the bridge like he does and use your bridge pickup instead of a blend of the neck and bridge. Thats where the “Jaco” tone comes from. Bam

Going from flat wounds to round wounds and back is like speaking with two accents. It's still you but the flavor and spice changes. Thank you for this supremely greasy improv. It's slinky as can be and the joy and love of your beautiful soul gushes out like a fire hose with the valve broken. In gratitude....

I think they are mediums. they feel pretty light. i used the Steve Harris signature by Tomastik for a few years when i had a P-bass and those were super tight and heavy but they sounded really great. These ones a super easy to play, but I might eventually go to a heavier gauge because I like the feel and stiffness of heavier strings.

I went through the same thing with my Jazz.I put the roundwounds back on flats just sound so much better on a P bass. Nice bass playing on that clip.

I have A really rear bass too. It's a Vester Platin-I Active Mode modified with MEC Gold J humbuckers and it has 2 active modes instead its previous active/passive ones. The first mode is usual and the second has amplified low and high frequences. Middle's cut. It was made by previous owner to sound good in team.

Cool. You got a real treasure. Having such a bass you got to take part in the conquest of smooth playing such things of Jaco's like "Port Of Entry", "Havona", "Donna Lee" and "Teen Town". :-)

@TheBassfresh ,I've never tried those ,most reviews I see on them are very positive ,I've heard some people say they take some getting use to because of the low tension , Think I will try a set sometime in the future, Thank You.

Hi! You can congratulate me. Now I've got my bass fretless with markers made of mahogany and front dots filled with epoxy glue mixed with rosewood powder. Looks and sounds gorgeous. If you stay about 1 yard or farther the bass seems to have no markers on its fingerboard but when I play on it I can see all the fret markers and dots even if it's not too light. Mahogany markers have special optical properties. They look darker on light parts of fb and lighter on on dark parts. Cool. ^_^

@bijouxmusic Hi, did you mean the Simandl fingering system for upright bass? Also, which brand of flats are you using here? I'm partial to D'Addario chromes myself, for my P bass.
@MrBassWaver12 жыл бұрын
The bass sounds great, werry fat and strong, especially when it's plugged in a good amplifier with a good acoustic system. Home, I have a little bass amp. Ibanez just for training and learning. The previous owner found it in a shop like yours or it was a second hand. He modified the electronics, set pick ups and changed frets about 3 years ago. It also has unknown story before him. No documents.

Awesome groove dude! Love how you economize your moves. When I play, my left pinky keeps going everywhere until I need it again, but with you it just stays where it should be... damn my screwy sinews! Also love the sound of your strings, but it's mostly the groove that makes it happen :)

I want to defret the bass and set D'ddario chrome flats medium gauge (50-107) or Elixirs medium or light gauge (45-105 or 45-100). I don't know, should I epoxy the fingerboard? By the way. I bought it for 630$.

@MrBassWaver12 жыл бұрын
I care because I'm planning to defret my bass an set some good flatwound strings that can give sound like your D'addarios and for long time. Reading forums I offen see that D'addario strings die very fast. In about a fortnight. And I don't want to change strings offen. Thank you for your opinion. It's very veluable for me.

Right-On-Time! Great playing!
@MrBassWaver12 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Ithink the same way. I'm going to take it to a luthier to defret then to set marks, to set new elixir light (45-100) or medium (45-105) gauge strings. Then he will completely tune the bass.

Not sold on them yet!? Can't imagine why not! A very fine tight sound with decent growl, and virtually no string or fret chatter. Hell, you're selling me on 'em, and I'm a diehard round-wounder! Wonderful melodic playing too, with a nice funky edge. If you mentioned somewhere what brand of flats these were - I missed it, but would love to know! (I'm guessing Chromes?) Thanks for sharing.

Wow! Great story. Was the fingerboard epoxied or you did? Looks like JB'62 just like Jaco's one. Maybe it's so expensive because it's very old, Early 62's. Really I got to check out pawn shops in my town too. But it looks like a miracle to find such a thing in a pawn shop, especially in Russia, especially here in the Urals. ^_^ I'll check out anyway.

Sick groove man... This video has been up for a long time, but I've got to try asking. How is the tension on those strings? I have read that the d'addario flatwounds have a pretty high tension compared to rounds. What do you say?
