If I had the cash and money wasn't an issue, for sure I'd get the 1954. Would rather have that than a 50K Pair of Custom Shop Jimmy Page Tele's or a 50k SRV Custom shop #1. These aren't exacting copies of someone famous (and both are my Idols), These are the REAL THING! Built by Leo and Co, the same guitars that our hero's covetted and searched for. No question is these really were used to influence some of todays guitars and ther is providence of that, the value will certainly go up over time. Another 50 years? Who knows what it'd be worth. Another great vid. What about doing for Fender Friday a Gretsch (Fender parent co of) ? Would like to see your take on a Duo-Jet 6128-T 59 or Sparkle Jet 6129-T. They were more similar to the Les Paul back in the day. Cheers.

I don't understand what the mechanism would be to drive up the prices. They are setting the prices. They are in control of the prices. I'm curious what you mean and how that work from this sales campaign. Also I would point out there are no no guitars from 1962. Why is that ? I bet they couldn't get them for a competitive price.

the owner of the Colts is getting his credit card out as we speak. For us normal people, Just buy a Mexican strat and have it set up properly with maybe an upgrade or two and, basically, you've got a guitar that will sound/play just as good.

I am just happy to own my vintage Fender, a Precision Bass built in 1964, what is difficult enough to get if you are born and raised in Germany. This one has the wear and tear of an often played instrument, every scar tells a story. I still play it in studio situations, just can't stop because it plays like butter and has a great sound. I am having a strong bond to the instrument, I bought it in 1979 when it was nothing more than a "used Fender axe", but representing my first "real" Bass. Before my old P it just was a Hoefner 182 short scale bass, good enough for a beginner, but I allways dreamed of a "real bass", a Fender. After 42 years of playing bass on stages all over Europe, 40 with my old P, the old axe has retired from live circus. This now is the duty of a 2016 MiM Precision 50's Classic I found on the used market this year, and, man, I have to say that this one is one of the best basses l have ever played. I use it a lot - besides the MusicMan StingRay 4 + 5ers l have.

@stirange I'm guessing when you get to the truly high end, there's less room for haggling both because the people in the market for one of these generally don't have to worry about the price and because dealers who pay to get one in stock are going to want their full value back out of it. Even if they have to sit on it for a bit, somebody is going to come along and pay full price eventually.

Fender is probably losing money by having these in "inventory." It may also and attempt by Fender to stimulate the vintage market pricing by using the exposure generated by this collab. Who knows, maybe they have a bunch of additional vintage guitars and basses. It seems odd that this sale featured only Strats.

@John Rapp when the vintage guitars are worth a lot, it adds to the value of the brand, and it helps sell reissues. Fender does it a little, but Gibson is expert at it. The main purpose of the custom shop is to sell that "vintage vibe" with new guitars priced way above the top of their regular line.

As I often say, the easiest and cheapest way to get a 60 year old Strat is to buy it new and then keep it for 60 years. I have a 2008 American Standard Strat (back when the American line was called Standard). In 2068, my grandson will be in his early 50's, so that will be a nice thing for him.

For a collector, makes huge sense because they do not care about price, they just do not want to get screwed by a fake or parts guitar, I find it odd that the lake placid blue and other colors are so cheap. the progression was standard two ro three tone, lake placid blue or Daphne blue.

Hmm gives me an idea. I know a few auto makers are selling cars through dealers that are certified by going through them and supposedly replacing parts that are worn but I dont think they're selling them for premium prices. They mark them up to cover remanufactured costs and you get a car that is like new. Mercedes and Jaguar are a couple that I know do that.

For a 1954 strat , I can buy a new mid engine corvette and still have plenty of money to buy a pair of custom shop Strats. By the way for those who bend strings a lot , these guitars are 7.25 fretboard radius with vintage frets so expect some fret outs when bending.

Fender rocks again! This is a great idea, it raises the quality of the used guitar market by authenticating the composition of these vintage guitars. You have to be Eric Clapton to afford one, but it also can serve as a psychological selling technique for the entire used market. I might justify spending half as much from another dealer, but I tell myself that at least I did not "overspend" by paying top price from the Authentic Fender Shop. And Eric Clapton can buy his vintage arsenal faster now, with more confidence that it is an authentic and complete item, as described. Awesome!

Not sure a Master Builder is necessarily the best person to judge whether something is authentic ... a Master Dealer might be a better expert ^^ other than that I like the idea. What's keeping me from buying a "real vintage" guitar (other than money of course) is that given the prices of vintage instruments, the incentive to fake them seems so great, I would never trust an offering to be original.

Having a long talk with a guy working at a high end guitar shop I got a reality check on the whole market.The big buyers have for decades been middle aged guys wanting to collect a few classics that they keep and use. The same group now is interested in great guitars but they are more interested in high end gourmet builders with modern features. The guys that have all the classics are now retired and downsizing .. doing consignment sales on as many as 3 guitars at a time. The price is heading down to older Custom Shop Guitars selling for as much as 30% less then when they were new. This situation will only get worse. I was told that my 10 year old mint Custom shop Strat is worth $2800.00 USD and that is BEFORE commision!

Don't play into the hype, they did this in the 80's with the "vintage reissue". This is for the collectors with lots of $$$$. Eddie Van Halen even admitted this about his super expensive one off's. Money grab. I'll stick with my partscasters built with exact specs for me, and my Mexican/crafted in Japan fenders. Glad to see you branching out Austin. 👍👍

For the sake of having these "mint condition," etc., what steps are the Reverb people taking with these?? I mean, suppose they have a 1961 that's powder blue and the body's in great shape, but the pickups and some of the electronics are shot?? Do you try for an "era correct" swap like Trogly does? And, if they don't - what then? Does the collectibility stop at original "everything" over the guitar being able to be "played" in the first place?? Interesting. Also, for an average of $60,000, you could take your search anywhere you like, not just with this deal. Although it is nice that Fender is putting their name on it.

Corporations moving into the thrift store, used or pawn shop market is bad for all. They see reverb and eBay sellers making money and want a piece of the used market too. I hope not because the prices will definitely increase and the competition would decrease. My vintage fender would be worth $25 large and Fender’s exact same one is worth $85 large. Yuppers

Makes sense from Fender's point of view, if they've got the capital and the knowhow, then they may as well just buy up all the stock on the market, certify it and sell it on for a profit. For the buyer, it'll mean higher prices and also beware of anything that's coming from other sources, as it means that Fender didn't want it for some reason.

JESUS CHRIST those price tags. If you buy one they better show up and make dinner as well. Considering you can get actual artist guitars on reverb I can see very little reason for spending that much on a vintage guitar that you could probably buy one for a lot less from someone else. I got 1 fender brand guitar and it is a 2007 Highway One (the last year they made them good) the finish is worn some because I think it was designed to quickly wear so it developed the worn look earlier cause a warm stick of butter will dent it. I'm not quite sure if it still qualifies as original because I changed the pickups with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, I mean they still are Fender pickups made around the same year they just don't have a stupid 60hz hum. If not I guess I can put the originals back in if I ever sell it.

Those prices seem pretty accurate to me. There are a limited amount and eventually be worth more, though it may take decades. I can't afford it but even if I could I'm a guitar player not a collector. I take really good care of my guitars but they still get a little bit beat up over the years. Those guitars are too special to enjoy. Someone will buy every last one.

Fender also makes the most authentic looking reliced guitars on the market. They could probably just make fake 50's and sell them as real and no one would ever know.
