Awesome video, one thing to note: a common misconception is that jazzmaster pickups are P90s and they're not, they're flat over sized single coil, different pole position.

@@Ottophil I didn't imply anything of the sort, that's how you interpreted it. I explained what a Jazzmaster pickup is and gave no explanation on what a P90 is or isn't...other than it's not a traditional Jazzmaster pickup...which is a common misconception.

I own the Fender Player Jazzmaster. I had my tone in mind, so I replaced its electronics completely with DiMarzio 36th, 4 dedicated caps and separate volume and tone controls. However, the original Player alnico II pickups, when split, were quite nailing the traditional Jazzmaster single coil sound. I think that, apart for the looks, one can get a real Jazzmaster with the Player Series, plus a thicker more! I'll be keeping the original loaded pickguard around, intact. :) As some other person mentioned, the original JM pickups have a different design and sound than P90s. It is bright and spanky, while the P90 is fat and compressed.

It seems to me that buying the quality Squier's is the best option unless you really must have the Fender logo on your headstock. I am lucky in that I already have 2 of each and they are all brilliant.

Squier’s upper end guitars have gotten sooooo good over the last few years. I own the 40th vintage strat and a j. Mascis JM, both are sooo damn good for the $$$. Bothe came setup well, and both have really nice satin necks. Squier is killing it with 2 different 40th anniversary models this year

I recently bought the Squier 40th Anniversary Vintage and also the Squier Classic Vibe 70s strat, and I'm amazed by the quality of these instruments. The Classic has hotter pickups than the Anniversary, but they both have incredibly good tone and feel. I'd much rather buy a high end Squier than a cheap Fender. I don't care what name is on the headstock as long as it's a good instrument. I do prefer the Classic, though. Mainly because of the higher output, but also because I've grown to like the big headstock of the 70s strats.

Even the affinity series guitars are very much playable....my tele gets played quite frequently...also just got a classic vibe 70s p bass and it is top notch in my opinion...the heavy lacquered neck is the bees pajamas

Howdy from Oklahoma! You probably already know that the 40ths that are left, are now cheaper than CVs, a new one for as little as $300(£237) in the US, anyway. A lot of the models are sold out, but any of the ones that are left are a bargain.

The Squier Jazzmaster pickups aren't P90s, they're single coils. I picked up the desert sand on release (not from GAK) and was disappointed. Apart from turning up damaged, the neck was bowed and quality just wasn't there. I hoped it would be a good project guitar with the beautiful sating finish however the frets were rough and overall it just felt a bit bluuuurrghh. Back to Fender for my next guitar.

i mean basic adjustment is almost a must with squier guitars . i work in a guitar shop and most squier need adjustment and fret polish but after that they feel like dream. even fender player series need some adjustment most of the time.

The lack of knowledge of the specs of these guitars is worrying from major UK dealer. Never been to Gak in Brighton but bought lots of gear online from over the years. Shame almost all guitar shops gone in south wales now

I played epiphone lp for years until I got myself a Gibson classic. Different is huge so I decided never to by a copy ever again... But now Squier offers a 40th anniversary vintage edition telecaster for 298 euros instead of 444 euros so I just had to grab one. Can't wait til it arrives

I’ve got a 40th tele and strat, the Strat has the best neck, I can’t believe how much guitar it is for 299$ on sale. I threw some good fender mimbridge and output jack replaced the nut to tusq and put locking tuners. It’s just so easy to play.

P-90 pickups are of a different nature to humbuckers, despite their fairly similar-looking aesthetic . They only house the one pole piece, meaning P-90s are in essence, single coil pickups. They started out life used in classic Gibson guitars before the arrival of the humbucker in 1955

i bought an Am Pro 2 strat last year unsighted, mine went back to the dealer.. watch out for QA issues, it's a real mixed bag. The only unsighted Fender stuff u can buy with almost complete confidence is MIJ

It’s literally just the company‘s name, everybody is after. There are so many manufacturers, who make great guitars, which I prefer over some big Company guitars, for example Squier. I love this brand! 🔥 And I prefer the 2003 MIM Standard Telecaster over the Player Series.

Real Jazzmasters do not have P90s they have wide range single coils that just look like P90s. Squier was guilty of substituting some P90s with Jazzmaster covers in the past. Jazzmaster pickups use 6 alnico magnet pole pieces and are fat wound single coil and P-90s use iron pole pieces and two bar magnets about four times the magnetic field making them much hotter pickups than the warm lower output Jazzmaster pickups. They just visually look alike. The 40th Anniversary Vintage and Gold Squier Jazzmaster use a Jazzmaster pickup. Squier used to offer a Custom Tele with a P90 but I don’t think the current lineup has anything with one.

The guitars coming out of Indonesia are incredible!! Gibson has inspired by Gibson acoustics hand crafted in Indonesia and they are AMAZING!! Having said that... that Squier Strat is gorgeous!!! I have not seen it here in the USA. It is beautiful.

The instruments and music in this video are great but I feel you totally missed the mark as a comparison because you used the Gold vs Vintage even if very similar a d the music played between the player and squier differed so how can a real comparison occur? Otherwise they all sound good. Squier best bang for money and Fender if you have a few extra money to spend . The Player series are great instruments and I have several but feel their price has stretched a bit too high now.

Why would I make up my mind based on a video? 1. I am not buying on a whim to join a trend. 2. The physical reality of playing a guitar depends on me holding that instrument - not in watching an image or video of someone else. 3. I have no idea about your relative knowledge, level of insight, or depth of experience to accept your opinion as anything more than "one man's opinion". I can't believe how GULLIBLE moderns are. Truth being, I have both, a Squier 40th Telecaster and Stratocaster and think both are terrific bargains at their price range, which is about all I can afford (according to my better half). Peace
