Filmed by the late great Kevin Linanne, this piece of historical VHS to digital conversion shows Phill Williams and Brian Douglas dinghy fishing in Tralee Bay with Monkfish, assorted rays including Stingrays, Tope, and a rare 140 Bottle Nosed Ray.

Love eating monkfish and never knew what they looked like. Nice job restoring this old film.

That's a true Monkfish the ones your eating are most likely the Angler fish a far uglier specimen than the one in the video.

Do these rays have venomous stingers? All our's here in Hawai'i have stingers. Does anyone eat rays there? That first large fish looks like an angel shark, is that what you call a monkfish? The monkfish I know of are large anglerfish. Just wondering if "monkfish" is a colloquial name. Thank you for sharing this awesome old video. My wife had an old Ford Escort just like the tow vehicle.

Yes, the stings are venomous though not deadly, and yes, the Monkfish is now called the Angel Shark. Monkfish is the 1986 terminology. In all cases here in the UK, Rays go back. Some species are even legally protected.
