Fenix WH23R is a headlamp that's ready for work!

The WH series, as the name implies, is for work specific conditions. In this case, intrinsically safe flashlights. (ie working in environments were a spark is going to be deadly like on oil rigs/ships/chemical factories) Plastic so that it lessens the issue with static discharge or anything sparking if it falls/bumps surfaces. The battery is integral not for IP rating but more so that the internals, with all the electronics, don't ignite anything outside if ever it sparks.

Just received an Olight array pro for the hand swiping control. I wish it had the ability to turn on and off like the fenix here. But I also like the red light option of the array. Cool review 👍🏻

You will find that the aluminum that Fenix uses holds up much better than plastic. It will not bend or ding unless you put it in a hydraulic press which would break the plastic one first anyway. I'm not a fan of built in batteries though. Not only are you unable to swap cells when needed but the light becomes useless when the built in battery fails. Batteries don't last forever. My favorite super small headlamps would be the Fenix HM23 and the Armytek Wizard C1. I normally don't use headlamps but they are really nice to have for certain tasks. My least comfortable headlamp is my Fenix HL60R which is a shame because aside from comfort it is excellent. I wish it had instant access to the lowest mode though.

The Jedi mind trick to turn on and off lol I kinda like my sofirn hs41 because it has all the modes, but I don't use high or turbo, because they step down below medium, but I've used moonlight, eco, low and medium depending what I'm doing and how long battery I need, because medium kills the light in a little under 4 hours, I do carry spar batteries though in my XTAR PB2SL

$40 for the head torch will be really good price . $60 is too much ,bigger battery torch cost around $80 . i can't find a reason to buy the $60 when bigger and better will cost $80

gesture control is a terrible function, lean against a wall or approach something and the flashlight turns on by itself, most often the more powerful one from the smaller mode turns on, you start waving your arms and blind yourself because the bright light falling on your palm blinds you. In short, this is a stupid, not convenient feature.

It can be easily disabled. I surely wouldn’t use it all the time, but I can think of scenarios where it would be helpful however.

Unfortunately, the 300lm(high) mode on flood and spot are actually Turbo modes and it drops to about 175lm within a minute. Exactly the same as in the Turbo mode (according to the manufacturer) and drops to about 350lm. In the case of Fenix ​​flashlights, this can be checked on the manufacturer's website in the user manual, where the time and workflow chart is included.

The spot mode still looks like it has a lot of spill. Too much spill. One of the beauties of a spot light for a work headlight is that it allows you to work in close proximity of your coworkers without blinding them. You even said yourself that the edges of the flood mode is not much brighter than the edges of the spot mode. That is not a good work light. That's the type of light that will get you yelled at all day long at the mill I work at where we use hardhat headlights all day long.

You make valid points. I wonder if putting the headlamp on low or medium is enough to knock down the spill to where it’s not a bother to others. Remember that I was in complete darkness, unlike most work sites.

@@cheule I don't think any small reflector light would work well. Our lights have a pretty good sized reflector. A bit bigger than the head on a c8+ coupled with an osram p9 emitter. They are AA powered so they aren't going to get too bright to begin with. They work good minus the fact that you have to replace the batteries often. That's the light that the company provides. I actually use 2 dual channel d4sv2 with osram w1 tie wrapped to the sides of my hardhat. No one complains about me blinding them. The spill on that is minimal already and if I have someone to one side of me I turn on the light opposite of them and they don't get hit with any spill at all.
