I am a 50+ re-starter on guitar (played a ton in my youth, then life got in the way, yada-yada) - This instrument sounds amazing in your hands my friend. When you broke into Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds I almost pulled my lighter out! You make it look easy. Fantastic. The guitar is pretty neat, but I am actually enjoying watching you experiment with it. Subscribed.

You looked like you enjoyed it Bob. £350 is a bit steep for what is a bit of fun and I can't really see them taking off, but in a couple of years when you can pick these up on eBay for a lot less, I'd be up for it. Great video and superb playing as always.

Reminds me of the Casio DG20 which I had back in the early 90's. Similar limitations to the Aeroband regarding actual playing but loadsa sounds and percussion effects. The Aeroband has a much sleeker look to it and it'll be interesting to see if it develops further. Nice honest and fair review, Rob, and I agree with your marks out of ten. 👍🤠👍

Casio had something similar years ago and was terrible. This seems like a slight improvement. I’m a working musician and have used Roland guitar synth systems for years. They sound amazing. If someone likes the idea of making keyboards, synth tones, horns, etc. you can buy a used Roland GR-30 or GR-33 or GR-20 for the same money.

I had a casio mg510, a few roland systems, I have 2 fishman connects and even went in on the omb guitars. this is what the omb was supposed to be. I just ordered the new system which is minus the speaker system. all pitch to midi setups have latency and ghost notes. I ordered one of these to lay down extra tracks on recordings. I know it's just a midi controller and I guess I will see if it's as good as it seems soon enough.

This is actually pretty interesting to me. I just watched a video of someone just hating it so much. But im a big synth fan, I love synth instruments. I have a YDS-120, im about to buy an Roland Aerophone AE20, I love my korg M3. I play actual piano, and guitar and sax. And i think if I want to play a piano guitar or saxophone for whatever reason, then I'd do that. But Im really into synthwave / vaporwave stuff, and I like using my YDS for the saxophone, and my korg for that aesthetic. So this to me, seems like it works, as I would expect it to. I dont get the vitriol I guess of some reviewers. This isnt a guitar but it seems like its a pretty good synth. Its a different instrument I think, not a "lesser" instrument. And that always bugs me, many musicians have a very haughty dismissive attitude towards synthetic instruments for whatever reason. The saxophone community is like that with the yds 120. They say it doesn't sound like a "real" saxophone, and I agree because its not a real saxophone. I personally love the synthetic saxophone sound. I like old video game music, I like that kind of sound. Its not lesser its just different. This was a great video i really like the even handed approach here. Personally as a finger picking guitarist I think this would work very well for me.

I think up to now it’s been reviewed as if it were a guitar, rather than as a guitar-shaped instrument, as you have done. Very fair of you, thanks! But I think I would still prefer a Lava guitar, even if they are more expensive (even the cheapest ones).

If you read the instructions you will see there is a mute bar at palm of the strum hand. There is also an app to download and connect to via Bluetooth so you can also adjus the tunning and sensitive of the strings. Also add hammer on/off. So before you review an instrument Al least read the instructions.

I used to have a Casio MIDI guitar years ago. I took it busking with me, so I didn't have to get some looks, lol. That was back in the 80s. Anyway, the timing you had to get used to was awful, so I flogged it in the end. However, I did manage to get some string arrangements down on some recordings with it.

Who is this guitar marketed towards, the answer is more complex than you might expect. As a stand alone instrument it’s not the best option. As a piece of gear to aid or generate sounds melodies and or classic rifts for music production this is an extremely cost effective way to do so, as someone who produces and masters music that learned music in a classical setting (music theory, acoustic instruments like grand piano, violin, and most physical guitars etc.) the cost of a single decent guitar in this case gives you a roster of available guitars how is this different then any other midi controller. Picking and strumming, you can mute cords or strings on the computer side even use a synth to add bends, however when you are trying to mimic the reverse through a typical midi controller can be extremely time consuming and not very consistent.

It looks like it might be good to learn on. I watched another video that said it's not possible to mute the strrings.

It’s a difficult instrument to play Brian. It’s handy for studio work if you want a particular sound but I would struggle to use it live on stage.

@@fennahrob6934 Well, it looks like I am getting one for Christmas and with my acoustic band, I plan to finger pick it only, but to use the various sounds it comes with in definitely live settings. I would like to have string (orchestra) sounds on stage on certain songs we play, especially a few of my originals. I guess the only way to have this guitar playing those kinds of sounds, is to have my cell phone on stage with me and use the app - right? I cannot "load into" this instrument string sounds??

You gave it a nice review of it. I've seen a dozen or more critiques of it and some were down right nasty. Some cocky guitar players spoke very poorly of it. Then they get the guitar they usually play, and compare it. It is not a fair comparison when they don't have that much actual use of this one, and are just playing it for the first time. I assume that just like any other instrument, you need to get to know it first. There is a learning curb to everything. I will tell you think I like about it... It does not make that screeching sound that most classical guitarists, no matter how good a player they are, can't avoid making when changing chords. One aspect that has always stopped me from dedicating more time to the guitar is the pain it always caused to my fingers. I was just never able to get beyond that.

I've been playing various string instruments for 20 years - this thing felt really weird. Also, it was wrongly advertised as suitable for beginners when I bought it. Terrible idea! You learn on this, and then try playing actual strings and see how that goes. It's not a guitar. It doesn't sound like a guitar, and your ranges and styles are quite limited. It does sound nice if you treat it as a musical instrument of its own (Piano wannabe). I mulled keeping it as a souvenir but eventually decided to return it (super expensive), but I don't regret the experience. What a confusing thing :D

Also I have to add as far as the music industry and useless garbage being marketed to beginners, THIS IS NOT THAT this isn’t a $300 amazon guitar made in a sweat shop with poor quality materials that someone starting will hate and use as their excuse not to learn music.
