Fentanyl and the New Opioids: Analysis, Clandestine Synthesis, and Use as a Heroin Replacement

Throughout the years, heroin users have turned to alternative opioids like fentanyl to maintain their addiction or achieve even greater highs, resulting in significantly elevated mortality rates. The switch to these new drugs is often the result of changes or disruptions in the supply of heroin. The ease of replacement has allowed suppliers to sell a product that mimics the depressant effects of even the purist heroin. Since fentanyl and its analogs can be up to 100 times more potent than heroin, the safety of officers handling buys and seizures and chemists handling submitted evidence is a significant concern to the law enforcement community. At this seminar, I will discuss the challenge in analyzing these increasingly complex drug exhibits.

I think its important to remember street purity is not a universal number and while he does hit on how it varies from different cities it really varies on different gangs. I used to be a junkie while also being scientifically inclined. So i frequently tested the composition of my bags and its all over the place. I actually caught a hot bag before I began to use it. A hot bag is something you'll see dealers do who have no ethical concerns about their business practices and while you might think what desler does? A lot of street dealers are selling to support their addiction to the drug and have mo intention of causing additional suffering. So a morally dubious dealer will intentionally take a 0.1 gram volume of non-dilute heroin 40-100% and sell it as normal street heroin. Most people buying small bags are sick and need to get well right away so they dont do a test shot or puff. They overdose and die then on the night news/ addicts talking you hear he died from x brand name of heroin. Every junkie will best down your door for 'the green stuff' because its allegedly more potent. Anyways, how stepped on your shit is depends on who you go through and how many hands its oassed through. Even your middleman your giving a cut to is still either pinching your bag or taking a portion and diluting it further. In the major city I live near standard $20 bags are 5-7%. Buying grams at a time is 10-15% and the more you buy the less stepped on it is. Just wanted to point that out so someone doesnt watch this video thinking 15% is a good rule of thumb.

I used to get these tiny balloons from the west coast. They were soooooo strong. One balloon was good for four or five heavy heavy users. It was probably almost pure fent cuz I’ve had that too. A few grains of salt. Ans that’s pushing it

I can tell you just about every user of fentanyl doesn't use it by choice they use because of price and availability I've never met 1 user that wouldn't prefer regular heroin or oxycodone

Yea because pure H or script Oxy is more expensive & more difficult to get so since Fent is the cheapest & easiest to supply that’s what a majority of the dealers are selling. Maybe the dealers have scrips but they do them themselves & sell Fent because that’s the biggest money making opportunity, and you know the drug dealer mentality, if I don’t sell it to you someone else will

Carfentanil was actually something department of defense looked into as a potential chemical weapon. Im also certain a few years ago Colorado excicuted a prisoner with fentanyl but I want to say it was carfentanil.

He only has book knowledge that’s why. Big difference actually living or lived it. Fentanyl is being pumped into North America by Chinese. The cartels use it to cut the heroin and makes something addictive to super addictive and it drops people like flies. It’s cheap for them to make and makes for example 1 kilo of heroin into 2 or 3 and more addictive. Black tar and opium are on the low end of list as the beige/light brown stuff is holy grail. It always was dicey and a gamble to do heroin with fentanyl its not a matter of if an over dose may happen its WHEN will it happen. This being said help is out there but you have to be honest with YOURSELF and truly want to better your life. Doing it for someone else or because you got pinched and judge gives you an option of jail or rehab. Most choose rehab get clean and right back to it when its done. I speak from experience and if you want and need change anything is possible stay strong 💪 you got this. ✌️

I always loved morphine but fentanyl did not make me feel good at all, totally did my head in, fortunately I only encountered it in hospital so maybe that had something to do with it, although I always enjoyed the morphine when an inpatient, or any other time, until I woke up and saw the damage I had done to those around me.

Oxy is basically heroin made from thebaine, so I get it, but most ‘heroin’ these days is at least laced with fentanyl, maybe further down the track you might see some advantage to other things like bup, but stay on it long enough, you won’t like any of it much, the only joy to be had is the relief from the exquisite discomfort of hanging out if your supply is not reliable, the pleasure becomes highly elusive when you have lost most of your meaningful connections and self respect. It would help some if they could easily get good heroin I guess, but there will still be all the other usual problems of life on top of the bondage of addiction.

I am a long time opiate super fan, I was put on fentanyl intensive care, it was mental torture. The fact that fent is found in all manner of drugs on the illicit market, including counterfeit pharmaceuticals, has me just happy enough to jump through the hoops to be allowed buprenorphine, I will never trust anything from the black market again. Sad to say my generation the last of the best of everything, although things might improve I suppose, who can really know. Go well.
