So many creative themes here. I love the way Ries balances all three instruments so beautifully. Never a dull moment!

In the final movement I can clearly hear why Beethoven enjoyed his company!

Many thanks for the magnificent chamber music of Ferdinand Riess. I've read in your comments somewhere he has composed many string quartets. Nothing on you tube till now. If possible....i'm looking forward to that. As always many congratulations for your marvelous channel.

Thanks for posting, lovely trio. Ries is a highly refreshing alternative to the typical early romantic repertoire. Another good one from the same time who is almost never heard of here in the states is Louis Spohr.

Another delightful work by Ries, with an affecting and unusual "adagio", and one that makes me re-evaluate his status as a composer vis-a-vis his more famous teacher. If he didn't plumb Beethoven's depths, he attained an impressive measure of his creativity. And he too, knew how to command the listener's attention, as with the opening salvo here.

Brilliant playing and fun to follow the score (if only the piano part!)

another brilliant work by beethoven's pupil - i've been saying that a lot lately...

The start of the 3rd has a "what if Beethoven composed a Tarantelle" flava to it. Ries often sounds like a bridge between the Beethoven and Dussek/Hummel schools, and the 2nd movement is perfect example of this.

I wish Beethoven’s MMs made as much sense as those in this work.
