Ferdowsi is celebrated as the most influential figure in Persian literature and one of the greatest in the history of literature. Ferdowsi, an iconic poet and his epic Shahnameh are considered as the chief instigators of the revival of Persian (Farsi) cultural traditions after the Arab conquest. It tells heroic tales of ancient Persia. He worked for thirty years to finish this masterpiece.
Legend has it that Ferdowsi’s lifework was not appreciated by King Mahmud of Ghazneh. He is said to have died around 1020 in poverty and embittered by royal neglect, though confident of his poem’s ultimate fame.
In this video, Geet Chaturvedi, one of the most widely read contemporary Hindi poets, is discussing the life and times of Ferdowsi.

Shahnama is the story of pre islamic Iran which was Parsee. Parsees were ancestors of Parsis existing in India today. Parsees were a branch of ARYANS separated from ancient India who moved towards west. It is said that Parsis are the true Aryan race. If you look at the Paesis of today's India you may tend to agree with this. The word ARYA means Noble!!
