It's strange. When I hear people say that the music in this game doesn't hit quite right, I know exactly what they are talking about. And yet when I come and listen to the individual tracks, they sound perfectly fine with solid beats and atmospheric undertones. I really don't get it.

Honestly, this is the only track that really hits it

I think it might be a dissonance between the environments and music. Most tracks are dark and foreboding but most of the time you’re in well-lit areas that don’t offer up much visual tension like Fusion did.
@ExtremeAce2 жыл бұрын
One major factor in the OST not being as memorable is the fact that it's so quiet compared to the rest of the sfx. And since the game is so fast paced you're constantly moving, shooting, dodging enemies, etc. you can't hear the music at all. I think that's part of the reason why the music didn't stick with many people. Because after coming and listening to these tracks on their own they're actually really good, and I have found appreciation for themes like Ferenia, Artaria 2 and 3, Cataris, Ghavoran, Hanubia and the boss themes which grew immensely on me.

I have the exact same experience. I wonder if people playing the game just aren’t able to hear all components of the song as well because of the small Switch speakers or bad TV speakers.
@Seiyol2 жыл бұрын
@@mugflub this is something I wonder too. I've played the game exclusively with headphones myself, and I've always been pretty irked by the level of dismissal the soundtrack gets

I love the use of the choir to show how things became twisted and wrong, in contrast to the Prime series (and Zero Mission) where the choir was mostly used triumphantly, signifying Samus' role.

Yes! This is the explanation I was looking for. For some reason this song sounds like something just went horribly wrong and that there's no turning back. I couldn't put my finger on what was it that made it sound like that.
@Stungunwol3 жыл бұрын
This is perhaps the first time Samus has been in a Chozo building and felt in enemy territory and this song expresses it so well. Usually the themes have had awe and reverence for a temple ruin, but not now.

Starts with the vibe of a ghost town (which, by all accounts, Ferenia should be), but quickly changes to highlight the present and very much living danger of the area.

Even if this isn't the official rip, I had to listen to 2:17 again. THE OFF-PUTTING CHORD PROGRESSION, MAN. It's a brilliant use of harmony to bring about a sudden and focus shift in the piece from the choir mixed in to them front and center.

The Grand Temple of Ferenia. A gleaming bastion of the Chozo on ZDR. Built into the cliff sides of the Hanubian steppe, it overlooks the great mountain ranges, canyons and valleys of the planet. It was once a place to find peace and enrichment, but since the Mawkin's fall from glory, it lay empty and deserted, destined to become a mere echo of the people that once thrived here, whom were led to their end by a leader that cared not for their lives. Until now, as now the X have come and have twisted that former glory into a sinister and foreboding palace of death, mirroring the perversion of the Mawkin.

Wandering aimlessly thought Ferenia trying to get myself out of that one part in the progression where you need to find the breakable wall _inside that one random secret room_ to leave, with all those annoying electric bugs along the way... I'm probably going to remember this theme quite well with how much time I spent there lmao
@WaluigiisthekingASmith2 жыл бұрын
Iirc (big iirc because I cannot remember intended progression) the "intended" route is to leave the way you came both times you enter upper ferenia. The first time you're supposed to enter from ghavoraan get storm missiles and space jump and then leave the same way to use the teleporter in the double jump room. The second time you enter from hanubia get wave beam and exit to hanubia the same way.

Sort of reminds me of the Temple Grounds in Metroid Prime 2, but it's probably just the choir.

This one is the one that hit instantly. The only one that hit instantly in my first playthrough. Felt so memorable and cool to listen to. Also, visually and thematically it remains my favorite. The clean, but desolate look makes it feel like a liminal space. The music is oppressive while the place is supposed to be like a modern take of a Chozo military temple or something. Like Raven Beak's main HQ proper. Reminds me of the portrayal of totalitarian, dystopic and extremists organizations like the ones found in Star Wars. It's insanely cool.

Ferenia, if you think long enough is really freaky, most chozo ruins we've stumbled upon have long been destroyed for like centuries looks like. But Ferenia looks more cleaner and tidier compare to most chozo ruins, the X's attack has not been too long and most of the Mawkin had been completely wiped out because of just one singular X parasite.

As much as I love Metroid Dread, it's also the first Metroid game where the plasma and wave beams disappointed me. I do like that the plasma beam has armor penetration though, and hope that future games or remakes keep that feature.
