Hr came into a SHITTY Barca and completely changed everything..Barca couldn't even win Copa del rey before him from 06 to 08..He came in with his style and discipline. Polished the veterans and bright in new kids who hadn't even heard of a Champions league theme song before The man made Messi into the Playmaking Messi we all know today.. Won Sextuple in his first season and 14 major trophies in 4 seasons He went to Bundesliga and Completely dominated there, left with his mark on the whole league... He came to Prem where all those arrogant Prem said his style wouldn't even get pass Stoke City.. He's now won 4 prems in 5 seasons about to bag in his 5th.. He's totally and completely changed football in Prem and the whole world of football..Now everyone copies his style of playing from the back, inverted full-backs and false 9 system he evolved too...The man is Incomparable, Untouchable. You must be ten years old. Barcelona had won the Champions League 2 years before he took over. Bayern won the Treble the year before he took over and won nothing in Europe, he then needs to join a cheater fake revenue team to compete. When he is finished at City he needs to go to Nottingham Forest and turn them into league winners. That is the what SAF did at Aberdeen and Man Utd.

He took over Rijkaard’s Barcelona team. Rijkaard built and developed that team, not Pep. The only player Pep really developed was Messi, who you’d argue actually wasn’t even developed by Pep, as Messi was just naturally gifted. That Bayern team won the treble the year before he arrived, and City had an established title winning team. Until he goes somewhere where they aren’t dominating their respective leagues and without a massive war chest, he’s average to me.

Let’s be real Pep has raised the bar in the Premier League. 15 years ago it would take 70-80 points to win the league and now it takes at least 90 points to win it. Even the best Man Utd teams(99 and 08) reached to max 90 points but city here doing 90+ points season after season. Also there are more teams that are competing (it was big 4 back then now it’s big 6). Secondly Man Utd style of playing was mostly counter attack and a lot of late wins. Sir Alex last season had so many late winners. Peps teams dominate and absolutely shred big teams. I agree that Sir Alex built teams but as a coach I would have Pep over Sir Alex because Pep looks for perfection.

I agree with Andy on this one. Pep is no doubt one of the best managers ever. But the idea of suggesting Pep is better than Fergie at this point is nonsense for a few reasons. Pep has clearly improved players, mentality and implemented styles of play that very few have in the game. But Pep has NEVER built a team from the ground up. You can make any argument you want, he simply just hasn't done that because every team he has come into has already been premium quality, with the biggest resources in their respective leagues. Fergie came into both Aberdeen and Man Utd clearly on the decline and needing serious overhauling. He did that and won everything there was to win with the clubs he was at when frankly it wasn't expected. A simplistic difference between the two is Pep wins at clubs already primed to the best in that league. Fergie builds good teams to be great and wins.

Which other manager walks into a team and completely changes the focal point of attack and defense by getting rid of the likes of superstars in Zlatan, Ronaldinho, Deco, Yaya Toure......to instead introduce a group of la masia youngsters with Messi being converted to a false 9 and Mascherano as a CB. Choosing to play tika taka football with a group of midgets in a age when everyone was raving about tall strong players and long balls over the top takes balls....dominating the world with it in a manner never seen before in football history takes genius.

@@gerryp4129 aye but he did keep alot of those players for at least a season. And lets not think this Barcelona team in 2007 were a bunch of slouches with no money. Clearly Pep dramatically improved Barcelona, but when you still have a core as strong as they did at that time it's not exactly unbelievable they'd kick on to win more, particularly since only 2 seasons earlier with many of the same players Pep inherited they won both la liga and champions league. What I'm saying is, there's no way you can compare that, to Fergie going into Aberdeen and winning multiple leagues which they hadn't done prior for over 50 years.

It's SAF to me for sheer longevity of success, but Pep has been more influential. What I respect about Pep is that he's literally made EVERY stakeholder of football bow down to see his view of the world as the footballing zenith. That influence that will never be rivalled imo. We literally have a league (and arguably some of the footballing pyramid too in England) where even the crap teams play out from the back, with relatively poor players, EVEN if it's suboptimal to do so. Journalists and pundits are united in seeing Pep's style of play as "how football should be played" - there was never such a coalescence around a footballing meta under Fergie as there were loads of other top tier teams around. I would argue he's had THAT much of an influence that "winning" as a justification on a manager's CV to get a top job has been made virtually redundant. Style of play is considered more important than prior proof of success. It's why Potter, Arteta, De Zerbi, Ten Hag and the RB crew have waltzed into jobs arguably beyond what their CV entitled them to at the time, and why Benitez, Conte, Simeone and Mourinho are considered dinosaurs by fans and media (not by me however). Fans prioritise rating guys that are "ballers" and can control the ball in tight spaces over solid, dynamic players that are more limited in technique. This sea change of footballing culture, taste and mentality has been fundamentally shaped by Pep in a way we will never see again imo.

At the same time you conveniently forget that uefelona should never have progressed beyond Chelsea in that 2nd leg cl semi--final - only scandalous refereeing made that treble possible. So, not only did Pep scrape a treble of his own, he did so despite having one of the greatest ever club sides at his disposal (incl. the god-like messi) - and with a copy-paste footballing philosophy (one that he inherited from Johann Cruyff). Yet he continues to attract an absurd degree of praise... In the end, i think people tend to confuse tactical nous with empire-building. Pep is the better coach; but Fergie is undoubtedly the better manager (possibly the greatest of all time), and achieved things in the game (not just doing a treble - though obviously an amazing feat in itself) the Spaniard will never manage.

Pep is a great manager probably one of the best, but with saying that you can’t deny the fact that he’s always had everything he’s ever needed at clubs, at barca he had Barca’s best ever team and probably the two best midfielders in Europe at the time with Iniesta and Xavi who I feel are massively undervalued when it comes to how much messi gets talked about vs them because when they both left barca were no longer the powerhouse that they had been in Europe, next Bayern he had everything he could have asked for, best full back in Lahm at that time, best centre backs with Boateng and Hummels even had Götze even though he didn’t live up to the hype eventually, lewandowski Neuer even Kimmich was starting to grow into his own at this time but he couldn’t win any silverware in Europe, then he moves to city where he’s literally been able to get any player he wants, I’m pretty sure there was a few years where they would get new full backs for consecutive years, binned joe hart got bravo just because he was at Barca then binned him and eventually got Ederson. I know Ferguson spent money too relative to what it would be at the time and football has changed in terms of the amount of players coming through a academy then vs now but I still feel like Ferguson tips it in terms of the amount of success over a long time and not just because they are able to spend more than other teams, but if we’re talking about European success however, Jose Mourinho tops both of them, he has a chance to win 6 and go back to back like he did with Porto with the europa league then champions league the year after, imagine if he wins the europa league again this year and then Roma are back in the champions league with the amount of money they’ve spent compared to other clubs in Europe it would be a massive overachievement

Not sure how many times people can have the same tired conversation. Pep is the best. Fergie was like a CEO, Pep is a FOOTBALL MANAGER. Fergie didn’t even take first team training himself, his coaches like Quieroz did. Tactically Pep runs CIRCLES around Fergie, who played a classic English system just with better players than his opponents. They faced off TWICE in UCL finals and Pep won both, DOMINATED both. It’s not close. Normally I don’t agree with the “English overrate their own” sentiment (I know he’s not English but a PL legend) but in this case the bias is clear. Pep is THE guy. His disciples are all currently winning around Europe. Fergie’s disciples are Steve Bruce, Carrick, Keane, etc all nothing managers. Pep’s are winning league titles with Barca, getting Burnley promoted with 100+ points, getting Leverkusen to Europe, almost winning the league with Arsenal, in cup finals with United. It’s. Not. So silly asking what Pep would do with Aberdeen.......Had he not been a genius from the very onset of his coaching career he would have been relegated to managing clubs like Aberdeen. But what would Fergie have done with that Barcelona side....long balls over the top with Messi/Iniesta/Xavi on the bench because they're not tall or physical enough. Pep changed the way football is played/conceptualized in this era, while Fergie dominated in an era of lesser tactical acumen. Hence, when an experienced Fergie met a coaching neophyte in Pep, he was destroyed and left clueless on the grandest stage.

Exactly how do you inherit raw talent 😂😂 you need to shape those players to become the best. Something pep hasn’t been able to do in his career bar Phil Foden and you still wouldn’t put him in the same breath as Giggs

Definitely yes. Look at how long they achieved an impossible thing. Sir Alex Ferguson: 7 years to win the first Premier League (and also the first national title in 26 years, after Matt Busby), 12 years to win the historic Treble, and 27 years to become the most decorated football managers in the world with 13 national titles and 2 European titles. Pep Guardiola: Only 9 months to ever win the historic Treble as Barcelona. In 4 years with Barcelona, he won 14 titles. In 3 years with Bayern Munich, he won 7 titles. Now, he won as many as 11 titles with Manchester City, including the fantastic 2018-19 season with four domestic wins and this Treble will exceed the number of trophies as with Barcelona! Don't forget that Pep Guardiola defeated Alex Ferguson in 2 Champions League Finals, with 2009 being the notorious because they defeated Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United at Rome. Also, the next year's Champions League Final was held at Wembley, the place where he won the European Cup beforehand with Barcelona on 1992 and 2011.

I think once you factor in what SAF did at Aberdeen then the debate is settled. Pep can surpass him in the future but as of today Fergie is simply the Greatest. Some of those United sides where bang average and he still won league titles with them

Pep didn’t have the 3 best teams in European football. Bayern were a brilliant team and has a top team but Barcelona had a better team and so did Real Madrid so it was incredibly tough to beat those teams.

People forget that Pep had 7 La Masia graduates playing together and dominating football. England isn't the only place that football is played and when Pep Team came up against Fergie's Team.... Pep pretty much retired Fergie. Everyone copies any tactical adjustments that Pep does noone aspires to play like Fergie's Team....

Guardiola has changed the sport on multiple occasions and will retire with a far better trophy cabinet than Ferguson.
