RC Sproul had a heart. I miss him. By the way, on Bible translations - ever since I started reading the Bible in Greek and Hebrew I learnt that there is much more in translation than one could ever communicate in a small space space of time.

John told at about 26:27 on the timeline, the experience of Robert Lagerstrom coming to Grace Community Church because he had been directed there by some of his friends... the Psalm he read was 107 (verse: 7) John read the whole Psalm ... "He led them also by a straight way...".... is what spoke so deeply to Robert. Yes, God's word is powerful.

Having read the bible thoroughly through continually for 48 years...besides reading various books or parts of it for certain studies...commentaries, etc...I find the most readable bibles (& I believe the most accurate) is 1) King James Version...my favorite that I read often 2) NASB or New American Standard Bible...very accurate and I read it through to get a good grasp of it, besides using it often as well. 3) Last, the ESV or English standard Version, which should be called the NEW KJV instead of the one bible that is named NKJV. This ESV just amazes me...so accurate and does not even change much but word for word in many places is the same as the KJV. So I say from reading the KJV about 20 times all the way through and now this ESV almost 3 times through at this point...that I use all 3 of these...BUT the KJV & the ESV is all anyone needs for accuracy and readability. Last, beware of paraphrases and all study bibles...I have, since a Christian tried to always read the bible by itself...too much of these study bibles are around...about 20 maybe and the words other than scripture gets the reader every confused which is which. Use a good text bible or a center column reference bible for to find where the bible repeats itself, etc...but stay away from even the one or two reliable study bibles & get a commentary instead of Lloyd-Jones, R C Sprouls or read the sermons or commentaries of John Calvin...so easy to read and start out with Lloyd-Jones' Ephesians set and the one vol by Calvin of Sermons on Ephesians.

I started out reading a standard KJV bible. As I grew, i eventually settled with a RC Sproul and John MacArthur study bible. As a dictionary, I have Strongs and Theological dictionary of the new testament by Kittel.

There’s too much missing from the NIV. There’s very few churches using the KJV nowadays. Preachers like Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached from the KJV and it was very common in churches in the 1950s & 1960s.

@PreacherJimC9 жыл бұрын
Wally, you have a good start here but let me help with what these Theologians are talking about. First what are you basing your understanding of the KJV, NASB, and ESV? Are you basing them on commentaries you read, your own understanding of scripture, or on the original language (Hebrew/Aramaic/& Greek)? This is were you should start, when choosing a translation not a commentary. In other words how close is a given translation to the original languages. It starts with the Interlinear translation moving through from the closest word for word to thought for thought in this order. Interlinear; NASB; AMP; ESV; KJV; NKJV; RSV; HCSB. and so on to the message. In my studies both undergrad through post grad and a time at Moody Seminary. I agree I like and know Dr. Lutzer very well. Each translation has its purpose I wouldn't give a young child an KJV because they would never understand it. But I would give them an NIV, or NLT to start, then as they grow move them to a translation that is closer to a word for word. Saying all this in a day of technology I see no reason that a Christian shouldn't be studying the Bible in It original language. I can speak from experience that it become much more richer in its understanding.

@@1689solas primarily, they do not teach doctrine as a rule. The pastor or pastors as a rule have no idea what is even being taught in Sunday school classes, where little or no knowledge or understanding is found. Usually only a watered down existentialism. These men are Calvinists also, they teach what is false concerning the Gospel. They believe one is regenerated before even hearing the Gospel. The bible- most all translations agree- teaches that one is saved by grace through faith which co es from hearing the message about Christ Jesus. Read the epistles which are directly addresses the body of Christ.

We often think that God gives us commands through His Word just to control us and subject us to His will without understanding that His commands are simply to protect us from the consequences of sin, waywardness, and rebellion. When we begin to realize the importance of walking in obedience, we can then have true freedom in the Spirit. The million-dollar question: Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here’s a quick test. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God’s name in vain? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell. God, who the Bible says is “rich in mercy,” sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross for guilty sinners. We broke God’s Law, but Jesus paid our fine. That means He can legally dismiss our case. He can commute our death sentence: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, repent (turn from sin) today and God will grant everlasting life to all, who trust in Jesus, then read your Bible daily and obey it. www.livingwaters.com kzbin.info www.versebyverseministry.org

NASB is typically seen as the most literal translation, while the ESV balances literal translation with readability. Either of those would be good for a new believer.

The first ten minutes are sorta odd... they show only the 3 guys on the right side of the stage. And nothing much gets said... well, that one guy has plenty to say but he seems like a talking head in its disconnectedness and how he causes such disinterestedness in me. Something should have been done by the host... or is there a host, mediator.?? Now they're about 1/2 way through and nothing gets to me. I hope something comes along or it will be the first time I clicked away from any MacArthur.The guy at the far end got no interaction except for being singled out for being 1 in 7 who crossed his legs different. He immediately changed them, a sign of good humor and it would have been a nice time to include him in some way. Maybe this Q & A was longer than this half hour... maybe he got to say a sentence elsewhere. Sometimes I see a huge insensitivity among these panels... in fact I think there are few... or maybe I just know the ones Mac sits on.... these panels of conservatives.

God speaks to us all in our own language. I think He makes certain that His word is translated well. As for the KJV, I do not like it at all. It is still written in an old language with all kinds of fancy words. I find very few really important differences in the translations I have read.
