OK, that looks like a nice upgrade, just add a cap on the bottom if you don't need a collection jar on that brew. I totally abandoned my old fermzilla to all-rounder and kegmenter and fermenting in kegs, old fermzilla design is just bad. I usually ferment at 0.5bar in the beginning to 2bar at the end of fermentation and after the cold crashing beer is ready. And you can still dry-hop from the top with low starting pressure. No oxygen when transferring and you save on co2 which is hard to source nowadays.
@HomeBrewNetwork2 жыл бұрын
2 bar is too much in my opinion, dangerous as well. I never had any issues at all with the original design, I have 2 originals and they are still going strong. I preferred the original over the AR as I wasted less beer when dry hopping due to the collection jar and conical shape, I too just dry hop through the top, but benefit is in the shape, less waste, more beer :) I use the AR for lagers and things I'm not dry hopping. Cheers mate!

@HomeBrewNetwork2 жыл бұрын
Yeah people are screaming for a tri clamp on the top, I dont think they realise how tricky they can be to get on, especially in a hurry, if you've got a krausen volcano about the happen, you dont want triclamp lol its much easier to pop the old lid back on and do up the ring.
@StassBrewing2 жыл бұрын
@@HomeBrewNetwork for sure - was more thinking about the reverse threads on the bottom. Agree that a thread at the top is much easier. I think the tri-clamps on the bottom will make things easier to connect and clean properly though.

I just can't understand why they didn't redesign the top lid to be tri clamp as well. Build it into the vessel, the same they did as a bottom. Go with a 6" to ensure cleaning is easy. Who knows. Maybe there are some manufacturing limitations that I'm not aware of there, but that just seems like a no-brainer and get rid of one of the design issues that so many people struggle with.
@johngriffin95472 жыл бұрын
It's odd isn't it. Especially seeing they are doing a new lid to fit the hop bong.
@HomeBrewNetwork2 жыл бұрын
I think the top would be a pain in the arse with tri-clamp, if you're in a hurry. When that volcano starts, fiddling with a tri-clamp is bad news. It would also add yet another step to manufacturing which would significantly raise the price. Cheers!
@HomeBrewNetwork2 жыл бұрын
There should be no issue with the top at all, it's an extremely simple sealing mech., It doesn't even have to be tight, the top ring just holds the lid in place. The ring will be hard to undo when under pressure, because of the pressure against the threads but at the same time if you tried to undo a triclamp while under pressure it would probably break your nose. The best way is to let some pressure out until the ring can be unscrewed, partially, and there should still be enough pressure in the vessel to pop the lid by itself. It's so easy once you know! Cheers!
@witkointhewild2 жыл бұрын
@@HomeBrewNetwork Huh... haven't run into any volcano situations yet. Something to look forward to I guess :) I have two all-rounders and one conical, for some reason the lids on the all-rounders seem to really get stuck in there. Not the rings, they're easy enough to get off, but the actual lids. Last one I had to get it up to 15psi before it finally popped. Which is also a bit of a pain when you're not doing a pressure ferment, or haven't done a pressure transfer. Uses alot of c02, everytime you want to pop the lid. Being that the entire industry is based on tri-clamps, just seems like a no-brainer to me. But if that's not going to happen, maybe some sort of tool? I dunno. It's just the biggest issues I've found with my fermzillas.
@HomeBrewNetwork2 жыл бұрын
@@witkointhewild Dry hopping into a pressure fermenter, its only time :) . It shouldn't take 15psi to pop the lid, are you using a small amount of lube on the lid? I only ever use the ferments own pressure to pop my lid, and its a very rare situation I'm fermenting any higher then 10psi, its usually 5 psi. I use both Fermzillas and All Rounders. If you're not pressure fermenting WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU hahaha just joking mate, use a tap wrench if you have one, undo the ring slightly, maybe half way, then use tap tool to catch under the carb cap and the ring as a fulcrum and lever it off. Cheers mate!

@fifis1012 жыл бұрын
Great upgrade to the fermzilla. I love my gen2 but removing the collection container can be very painful sometimes. I find it odd that they went for a 3"-2" valve???? Why not just do a 3"-3" plus centre the hole sin the lid of the collection container. I also would have thought they'd put a tri clamp on the top as well but maybe they don't commonly come in that big of a size. Also I always ferment at 25degC and 20-30psi. That way when you cold crash the pressure drops down to 10-15psi and yo don't have to force carbonate. It's instatly ready to drink.
