That really is a good example. If a beginner boxer does this, they'll get easily punished. If one of the most renowned boxers like Muhammad Ali did this, it's incredibly difficult to punish because he punches so fast; for him, it would be more like blinking than flinching. At one point, Ali was timed to do a full arm's length punch in .04 seconds. Unless his opponent is equally fast, the weakness might as well not even exist - just like with Frieren.

It's not quite like that, "mana detection" works like a radar. Of course, mages and their allies will fight the enemy in front of them, but what about ambush or additional enemies situations ? Mage must always do two tasks at the same time, both fighting the enemy in front and always turning on this "radar" to locate the location of all targets within the radius. She will still fight the enemy in front of her and not completely "close her eyes", it's just that this "radar" will temporarily turn off when she casts spell. Every living creature in Frieren's world has mana (except for some species that have evolved to adapt to their environment such as Stille bird)

If someone as skilled as Muhammad Ali were to do that, he punches so fast that it's like he just blinked, much like Frieren who excels at any other skill that you barely even notice it. Both are a form of detection, and both could be fatal if the enemy is able to use that small opening against them

Dumb plan for two reasons: 1.There are no more mimics in the dungeon, Frieren has already fallen into all of them. 2. Even if there were more the real Frieren would fall for them first anyway.

I'll add why it is gonna fail : Frieren clone only purpose is to kill intruder, it has no desire, just like how Ubel clone didn't have desire to copy magic, or Sense and Fern clone aren't pacifist.

A common joke around this episode about finding Frieren’s weakness is using a mimic, but I now understand why that wouldn’t work on the replica. We’ve been told that the replicas have no mind, which means that they have no personality. We were literally shown that it’s a personality quirk for Frieren to ignore obvious proof of a mimic in hopes of finding something interesting. You can even say it’s a desire or even an addiction that she picked up on after so long restraining herself in isolation. Since it isn’t an instinct, and even if the replica could copy her personality, what would it need with loot it might potentially find. More importantly, since it’s the replica right in front of the monster’s hiding spot, I don’t that it would give it’s now personal bodyguard too freedom to act on its own.

I just viewed it that they do have minds (or at least the function of one), it's just the Spiegel is creating the clones solely on the purpose of eliminating those who have invaded the dungeon. So basically they're always in combat mode pretty much, and I doubt combat mode Frieren would bother herself to a mimic. Plus Frieren isn't exactly dumb to fall to an obvious trap (like an *obvious* trap. Not the "-there's a 1% chance", it's the "-someone's planning to kill me" kind of trap). If she was, the demon king probably would've screwed her 10 times over. Frieren's instincts are reeaaaally sharp.

Yeah, Serie really did care about Flamme, but just doesn't know how to show it. I do like the analogy they have here with magic use between older and younger mages. It's like the use of technology IRL. Trying to teach an older generation how to use a computer was challenging for them while babies are already using their parents cell phones with no problem. That's how Fern is to Freiren.

This episode is just reinforcing this analogy. Elves and demons must be the slowest to innovate. Seems to be they like to craft their magic to their fullest potential. Serie says it herself they they can hold off on doing anything for years if not centuries.

Hey! I think you guys missed something (REALLY emotional and tear-jerky!)... Unless someone else mentioned it in a comment. One of you guys during this episode mentioned Fern dying, and someone else said, "I don't want to think about it..." That made me realize that you guys must not have paid close attention to the closing theme (music and visuals). Take a moment, look up the video and re-watch just that (End Theme 2). It's the second half of the song from the end theme of the first half of S1 (and the lyrics sort of speak to Frieren and Himmel - Frieren thinking of someone who has passed on)... However, now watch the ending from the second half of S1 closely... It starts with Frieren laying down on a hilltop with her head next to a gravestone. When I first saw it, I assumed it was Flamme's grave, but then realized Frieren is wearing her current/modern outfit (not the simple shift she wore when she was with Flamme)... The somber lyrics proceed, and the scene shifts to little girl Fern, who's ribbon comes out of her hair and becomes the "path" that the little claymation Frieren follows (her "life" with Fern)... Then (I'm getting choked up typing)... They show Fern's hairpiece, and the butterfly "breaking free" of it and flying away. Then Frieren walks a bit more, reaches that flower, and as she reaches up a butterfly turns into Fern (in the sky), reaching down to her... to me, suggesting that Frieren might seek out Heaven again after Fern dies. The saddest, most touching part of the whole thing is the last scene where Frieren is laying on a hilltop with her head in Fern's lap and Fern is sitting there... But compare that to the opening image... it's not Fern, it's Fern's headstone, so Frieren is laying on Fern's grave. Again, probably a scene from 80-ish years from the future of the show now, but SUPER sad and touching, especially with that music! Look it up on KZbin and try to watch it without crying!

The animation in this episode was magical. I think Miss Sam is correct, while Frieren is proud of the fact that Fern can defeat/kill her. I think that aspect secretly hurt Fern. Also, nice catch, Miss Sam, on the lineage of elf, human, elf teachers that Frieren and Fern come from. I didn’t notice it the first time I watched. Good eyes there, Samoo 👍🏽👍🏽

But Fern can't defeat/kill Frieren at the moment. If they both fought at 100%, Fern would get killed in less than 2 minutes... Maybe even less than 1 minute

Fern is not capable of killing Frieren , at least not yet even in the manga. Frieren is still far more powerful and experienced

This is similar to Frieren vs Demon king scenario, where Fern can kill Frieren but not in a 1v1 fight, just like how Frieren can only defeat Demon king as a team. Because in the past, Flamme said Frieren gonna kill demon king but without mentioning other party, she just know Frieren is gonna be a main contributor.

I hope this is not a spoiler , but i have a feeling that near ending of season 2 , Frieren will posses by something evil 😢 and the only way is for Fern to end Frierens life 😭 its kinda Dark and sad . Because the way Serie told Frieren of how she would Die is possibly by the Demon King or by a Human mage 😓 . I really hope the second season they avoid doing such Dark Ending for a Wholesome Story
